    Well, I guess you picked the only thing that Jay and Duensing had in common; they're left-handed. Here's a mid-level update on his rise through the minors (http://www.scout.com/mlb/twins/story/560531-scouting-report-brian-duensing). Don't get me wrong, I like Brian, seems like a nice guy and I wish him well, but Tyler Jay he is not (as a prospect). I don't know if I agree that the Twins were left head scratching...that's a popular meme, but generally drafts are planned and planned, and then planned again to outlay the options. Maybe he wasn't their first pick, but they heavily scouted him. So, you weren't impressed with his velocity, his track history in college, stuff, or the fact that he throws the ball from closer to first base. I can understand that. Who did you want?

He's Left Handed. .....Wish I could figure out how to upload a jump to conclusions mat picture here.... But seriously, give the guy time to adjust.... The staff could be tweaking things in season, and he might even have some dead arm. I understand if you didn't like the pick, but did I mention he's left handed?

    I'm late back to the party again, but isn't that career FIP remarkably similar to that of E. Santana's 4.26? Even with the complete disaster pile Pelfrey been over the past few years? I'm not saying a near 3 ERA is likely (may not logical), but if he's pitching below 4 (3.99 counts) at the end of the season, and the Twins are still in it, I'll take too many decent pitchers next season over not enough. No one-year contract should ever blocked a good, young pitchers, and a good GM understands injuries, learning curves, and roster management. Pelfrey is doing something different in his pitching than he did over the last few years. I want to see whether the changes are actual improvement or smoke and mirrors. I want to know if an outfield defense that isn't cooking steaks and sunning themselves can help the pitchers out. Essentially, I enjoyed my opportunity this year to pay a crapola of funds (drive five hours with three kids under 7) to see the team play, forget to look who was pitching that day, and not be wholly disappointed when any of our starters are on the mound when I show up. I managed to get the family to a game and Pelfrey beat the Red Sox 2-0.....Mike Pelfrey.... I don't care what happens for the rest of the season (hyperbole), I'm all aboard the Pelfrey Express That is until some team goes crazy and throws out an offer that can't be passed up.

    Are we talking insane like regular reality, or we talking like sign Torii Hunter for 10M insane? I really don't care how much money a team throws at a player for one year. Two years...another story.

    If Pelfrey pitches this way all the way through the year, and the Twins are in contention the entire time, I have no issues with a QO (even though I think he'd take a hard look at accepting it). A one-year contract is fine (and with continued success over a year, I'd likely welcome it). Anything over a year (without being exceptionally team friendly) would be Nick Blackburn-esk. General Note: I still can't believe he's pitching like this....it's unreal.

    Drew Butera (2013, 122 PA): . 198 .270 .279 .550 Chris Hermann (2015, 57 PA): .196 .268 .353 .621 I'm not saying it isn't without it's downsides (few appearances/40 man issues), but I don't think I'd automatically dismiss it as an option.

    Here's to hoping he's more like Dozier, and less like Kanzler... (I have higher hopes: 2014 K/BB 105/16....woof). Garver's regression was more surprising (65/61 K/BB).

    .944 OPS, .406 OBP, leading power hitter on a low power team, but essentially a 3/1 K/BB. He's a guy to follow, but I need to see this carry through to Fort Myers. He rolls this through Fort Myers, he's a guy that gets some attention.

    Athletic, humble, good arm, struggles with accuracy and the deep ball. Intelligent, but shows passion and grit. Good leader, but could use work going through his reads....

    Thanks for posting this. Mechanical adjustments following a prolonged slump which lead to a streak are always interesting, but for me, I've always been a practicioner of hitting your way out of a slump by hitting, hitting, and hitting again in the cage. I'll have to try this approach sometime.....in beer league softball....

    I'm not exactly enamored with Tonkin (would rather see Lester or AJ get a shot)...won't consider Meyer for now as I think he needs a confidence boost... but I'd rather see Tonkin in an extended role than Stauffer, at least Tonkin shows potential.

    Argghhh, I watched the video many times......I hit pause and play over and over.....then I jumped back into the thread today....grabbed my headphones, watched the play again, and now it sounds (looks as well) that the ball hits high off the wall and Hicks made the right call. Not only do I think my earlier post was wrong [cue Billy Madison speech] I now owe Hicks a beer and a sincere apology. This is why I lurk...I can't screw up lurking....

    As usual, I'm late to the party, but after about ten views (and I wish I could see Hick's reaction more in the picture), I think it's a bad read estimate. From my view, he clearly thinks the ball is going to high off the wall, and stops for the deke (which in hindsight, was likely the wrong decision). The ball appears to be playable, but I would categorize this more in line with unfamiliarity with the park as far as warning track to wall distance in concerned. If I was to guess a bit, I think he tracked the ball to the first step of the warning track, viewed it as going to be high off the wall, and made a judgment call that turned out to be wrong in the moment (he stayed away from the wall far enough to play what he thought was the bounce, and I don't blame him for not knowing where Robinson was). While I would view it as an error/bad judgment/unfamiliarity, I wouldn't lump it in with some of his bad plays from last year. I would agree that he has struggled with the ball hit directly at him (but that's the hardest ball to catch in the outfield). File this one under a whoops, and I think he would agree he misread the ball. * I haven't looked at the wind levels or direction, nor did I spend too much time looking at the distance of the warning track to wall ratio difference of Fenway.

    For the amount of money they spent, you have to see him a few more times before you dump him (who knows, the way things have been going, maybe he starts magically pitching well). But for now, all I ask is: 1. He better be moping things up.....against the Indians/White Sox.......when we're up by 20; 2. The second they bring him in, I'm switching to tequila; and 3. Where's Dave to declare a fork is necessary....that'll fix him up.

    If I recall correctly, Hicks has been a slow adjust in almost every level of the minors. If he really is the defensive player he was billed to be, he'll have plenty of time to see if the bat catches up. I'm hopeful we see a Trevor Plouffe-like development arc....without the throws into the first base dugout.

    I realize this is satire, but still better than Matt Capps, Jim Hoey, Eric Hacker, Kyle Waldrop, Phil Dumatrait, Dusty Hughes, Jeff Gray, Luis Perdomo, Matt Malony, Tyler Robertson, Alex Burnett, and more. I'll take him, even it if it isn't sustainable...
