  1. Not terribly surprised on Rortvedt's struggles... second rounder picks out of HS don't typically get pushed to low A in their first full season. I wouldn't be surprised if he got demoted to E-town if the bat doesn't pick up. Even if he did, that is not necessarily a bad thing.
  2. Kind of hoping Vargas turns into that guy... or Park or Palka for that matter.
  3. Romero is going to depend more on where you get him in my opinion and the exact issues behind all of this. Not sure I'd waste a slot 35/37 on him with the info we have available... too much risk. Problem with him going further down though is that he's a Junior, so he can go back to school as long as he can get a transfer to some place that will play him, so he has enough leverage to force a second chance.
  4. I think the pen is fixable internally, and I have to think Duffey will be moved to the rotation if there's another injury or neither Gibson/Mejia step up. Not much in AAA right now in terms of starters that I'd be comfortable bringing up... maybe Wheeler... possibly Gonsalves later this year. Really, they need to get some of the AAA kids up in the pen, if for no other reason than to see if they can open a door for Duffey in the rotation.
  5. He's pretty young for that league too. Hopefully we see more consistency here, but even if not, just holding his own in AA is a great thing.
  6. that split is wrong. I'd add that Granite has never shown Dozier's power. Not quite sure where the comparison comes from. He's a prospect that might surprise and turn into an above average CF, but his bat is never going to be his specialty. The only time he's managed a high OPS in the minors is in very small samples, and his career OPS is just over .700. Dozier showed flashes, destroying the rookie leagues and A+ and AA in 2011.
  7. Sure, but using that logic, you wouldn't draft a pitcher... ever. That doesn't work either, especially from a team that needs pitching, has the first overall pick, and the clear BPAs in the draft are pitchers.
  8. Breaking hearts is more Vikings territory than Twins.
  9. I might make that trade. Only a couple guys on that list that I'd care about. I think the DBack would want a bit more ceiling for Grienke...
  10. for that reason I'm surprised they pushed him to CR this season. He struck me as a guy that would be in EST and then headed to Etown.
  11. Just make sure it's BEARD and not BREED... mom might get a little disturbed.
  12. Not sure I like it either, but it is reality. Pitchers carry more risk. A lot more. and HS pitchers carry more risk (and reward) than college pitchers... a lot more. I'm certainly not saying to not draft pitchers, but I tend to think that we as a whole miss that concept when we get huge man-crushes on some kid's projectability.
  13. There is a reason TINSTAAPP was developed.... no pitcher is a safe pick. College pitchers tend to be safer than HS though. They also tend to have less upside.
  14. Probably 2 moderators. The Dakotas are practically Canada anyways.
  15. I'm pumped about this too. My only real concern is how little time he got in CR... He was pretty bad his first month there, but you could see a month over month improvement while he was there, but only a few months there followed by 2 years of inactivity and a start at a higher level, I think some expectations need to be in check. He may struggle... a lot. I hope I'm wrong, as I really like him as a prospect.
  16. I like Garver as a prospect and think he could be an above average catcher, but I'd probably bring up JRM first. One, JRM has had ML success, and two, Garver hasn't spent much time in the high minors.
  17. That would be a nice way to spend it. He's mid-1st talent that could have "high bonus demands" causing him to fall to us at 35.
  18. FSL tends to suppress power as well... that is something that cannot be stated enough. When evaluating power in the FSL, you really need to look at it in context to the rest of the league.
  19. as bad as the starting rotation is, I'm not sure pythag is a good way to judge record here. Those 4th/5th guys are giving up a lot of runs and leading to blowouts... probably more I'd guess than what is statistically normal.
  20. It makes zero sense if they are blocking someone. Not sure anyone in Fort Meyer is ready for the bump up...
  21. What I don't understand is how we cannot find one reliever that can be optioned/DFAd to allow for a rotation of some of our AAA/AA RP prospects. I get Molitor not trusting them, but I've got to think there's enough talent in the minors to do the "see what sticks" methodology... Between Burdi, Melotakis, Bard, and Hildenberger, there are plenty of guys who can get a two to four week extended look who you can keep up if they are doing well. I get that some are 40 man adds, and so preference would go to the guys already on the 40 for now, but this is something I'd have to think they can do.
  22. yeah, I've got to think that Mejia is getting the call Saturday and probably being sent right back down. Makes sense, and I'm fine with it... Truthfully, I'd be fine giving Gibson a spot start too... There really aren't a lot of good options for a spot start, but Mejia is probably the best option.
  23. yeah, if Berrios is new and improved, that changes things drastically. Baring injury, you have 3 reliable starting options... Getting Gibson back on track or Mejia ready would change things too.... I'm still on the pretender side and would likely sell at the deadline, but if what we saw from Berrios is more the norm than the exception, I'd have to start rethinking that.
