  1. 11K in 7 innings... looks like a few guys in Kane County might have been taking 4/20 seriously.
  2. The problem I see is that the two pitch thing gets a bit overblown. He throws two different curve balls if I remember right... now I get it, but mixing pitches and locating that FB is a big deal. A change up that can keep hitters off balance would be nice, but let's not forget just how good he was in 2015. If the two pitch thing is a real problem that cannot be overcome, he would have failed miserably in 2015. He didn't. I'm not saying that the pen isn't his final destination, but I think you give him some rope to see what he can do. That's just me.
  3. I don't understand the desire to write him off as a starter this fast. He was a good starter in 2015. Very good. For a team that needs upside guys there, you don't write off a young option just because he has been good in the pen.
  4. Guess I'm more on the lines of letting him be in relief for now, but given the org's depth at SP, I'd want him to try it again at some point. If this turns into a lost season so to speak, I think stretching him back out in AAA for a couple weeks and then trying him again at starter with all of these changes is a smart decision. If he fails, then we know he's a reliever for good...
  5. it comes down to risk vs. reward. Santana has a lot less of the risk category and a known reward. Risk is higher with pitching prospects, and matching what Santana has done is not exactly common. If the Twins are out and there's a top 50 with a couple more high upside guys, I'd probably do it. Given the demand for pitching at the deadline, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a return on that level... But yeah, if the offers are equivalent to JDL straight up... he stays.
  6. I think Santana could net a nice pitching prospect or three, but I don't think he's going to net a major league ready pitching prospect, as said team with the high upside ML ready pitching prospect would want to plug in said guy in place of their weak spot on the mound... unless by chance they really just need one more guy and are willing to not develop said pitcher, but that would be tough. If the Pirates are in it and Glasnow is still struggling, I could potentially see a match there, but I still think it's more than a 1 for 1 deal. Perhaps if a team like NYY was a pitcher a way, they'd be willing to send one or two of their big AA pitching prospects over, but even then, that's a move for 2018/19, but also quite a bit more realistic if we want pitching help for Santana. Dozier might get that pitcher, b/c presumably a team that needs a 2B could possibly be stacked at pitching. Not sure if LAD would be a fit given that Forsythe, while not lighting the world on fire, isn't exactly doing poorly either.
  7. I think June is a good timeframe for Garver as well. He's off to a good start, but let's see if he can keep it up. He certainly would provide a nice offensive sub at some point, so he's a better backup 1B than say Giminez, but Castro is going to see the lions share of the games behind the plate, so making sure Garver has the time to keep developing his defense in AAA isn't a bad thing. He won't be able to do it in Minnesota.
  8. I guess July is going to depend on pretender vs. contender. Right now, being in the thick of things, I think there's be an uproar for a trade, but if the Twins are still in contention, do they ship him off? I'd probably argue that if guys like Buxton, Mauer, and Rosario haven't come around, then it would be wise... But I would without question want some top shelf pitching prospects.
  9. I'm not too worried at SP. Mejia hasn't been bad (though he hasn't been good either) and needs time, but two starts in, he's held his own for a 5th starter. Some one will falter or get hurt, and Berrios will be there to take over. He's got to be the top one on the list. Right now, though, I think Sleegers is the next guy I bring up if they need someone, but that's a 40 man move. We have some 40 man fodder, so no worries yet. I'm not against trying Duffey out as a starter again, but that's going to likely mean a trip to Rochester at some point. As long as the starters are healthy and producing though, I'm fine with 2017 being Duffey's year in the pen. He can decide in 2018 if he wants to start or not. Offensively, I've got to wonder when one of Vargas/Park comes up, but that will move Grossman to the OF full time, and honestly, while the defense has been good, the offense in the OF has not been so much, though for now I'm fine being patient. Rosario's peripherals continue to improve, and Kepler just needs at bats. It's Buxton that needs to get his head screwed on straight at the plate. Goodrum is the next Santana, though I think his bat will play up better in the bigs (though that is not a certainty). He's a bat first utility guy. His defense is pretty bad. I'm not against him replacing Santana at some point, but I'm not convinced that Goodrum is a better defender than DSan...
  10. Other than first round picks, it's pretty rare to see a HS draftee playing full season ball the year after he's drafted... and given that he wasn't an offensive standout in rookie ball, I'm not surprised. I'm guessing he may get a demotion at some point if he's still not hitting. Hoping he is just in a funk. We need this kid.
  11. 80 degrees and sunny in Indianapolis... they just chose the wrong venue.
  12. Got to honestly say that after reading that I have tremendous respect for his faith. Around the Horn on the other hand...
  13. an increase of likes and a ban in the same day... pretty impressive. If you had called him God or Rocketpig, this wouldn't have happened.
  14. Nope, I just a poor factory worker that needed money for college.
  15. Yeah, he'll be up soon enough. I'd rather wait until we see who falters or gets hurt before we promote him prematurely. He proved last year that he wasn't ready despite some gaudy stats, so I'm not ready to look at the stat lines from two starts and say he is now.
  16. It depends on who makes the cookies for the record. The Chinese buffet we occasionally eat at usually has fortunes.. Fun fact for the day. I worked at a fortune cookie factory in High School.
  17. Breslow is the easy choice in my opinion. I wouldn't cry much if he got lost. I don't think it happens in the next week (baring injury) simply because of the reasons others have already stated... Now that said, I still have hope for Duffey as a starter, though time in the pen can work to his advantage, as a number of starters have really stepped up their games after spending a few months working out of the pen. I'm not against Duffey on that path, as I think he's a possible starter long term (now he may prefer to stay there, and if so I'd keep him there), but he's probably next... And Tonkin, I'd try him out in some meaningful roles, and if he fails, cut bait.
  18. yeah, another good season by Blankenhorn and he's going to be getting national attention. He's what, 20?
  19. For the record, Gordon had an .800+ OPS into August last year before cooling down. He started hot last year. I suspect that more to do with wearing down, as a full season is tough on a 20 year old kid. Hoping this year he maintains the pace for a full season.
  20. I know it is stat lines, but this really does say a lot. If he has ML stuff, he should be destroying high schoolers better than he is. It tells me that even if he's successful, don't expect him up in 3 years. That would be said, it would be interesting to see more than a few guys here. I'd love to see HS stats of guys like Stewart, various big named failed pitching prospects, and a few under the radar guys that made it.... would be fine to look at.
  21. yeah, getting Buxton going at the plate will really help. Like what I've seen so far. Hope it continues.
  22. At least I get credit for sending the link, right?
  23. Then you haven't been to the right place. Might I suggest Bella Bacinos? It's right by that corn cobb shaped building and across the street from the Trump tower...
