  1. I seem to remember more than one poster getting a bit upset about those non-personal attacks that were really just veiled personal attacks. You needed thick skin to post there, that was for sure.
  2. One thing I cannot help but notice is that Gordon maintained an .800+ OPS into August last year. I wonder how much of that final drop off had something to do with him simply being tired out. Let's also not forget that the FSL is not a hitter friendly league. Reading what others have said about him, his hit tool is pretty solid, and that is going with an average or better glove. A guy like this at #4 on the list is pretty good, given a floor of a major league regular and a ceiling still being a very good player. He's young for his league, and posted some pretty good numbers. This isn't a guy to be worried about... not yet at least.
  3. Sometimes I really wonder if people's expectations of prospects need to be changed. Jay wore out over the season, that is without question and hardly unexpected given the transition. I don't think a position of "one more year" when he dominated opponents in FTM is hardly appropriate. He's going to need to log more innings, yes.... and that was hardly unexpected when he was drafted as we all knew he was a project in this area. He pitched quite well when he was on, and I think the big goal for 2017 is to put up similar numbers to what he did in FTM and make it about 120 IP. That would put him on track for a 160 or so IP season in Rochester in 2018 and ML ready in 2019.
  4. There's different kinds of 4th starters. Milone has a lot more risk given his complete inability to miss bats. Mejia has at least shown the ability to do so (so far). Even if the end game is a 4th starter, there's a lot less risk to a guy like Mejia if he's getting 7k/9 with a decent BB rate. That type of pitcher can be flipped for something decent at the deadline.
  5. and now we see why it is we've been so bad of late.
  6. I think there's no question about the high ceiling here. Terry Ryan isn't going to write a check for 4M for a 16 year old unless he's really REALLY high on him. I don't think he's going to have extreme power, like say Sano, but with a good plate approach, you could be looking at an .800 OPS type guy with average to better defense at SS. That's a fine a prospect, which is why he's ranked high. I think this season in the GCL and hopefully Etown will probably put his name out there nationally. He's one of those guys that with a good season would end up on a lot of top 100 lists next year at this time.
  7. yes, I remember being very confused at first when typing Terry Ryan and seeing it show up as Jerry Ryan....
  8. Those were the days... That site was not for the thin of skin. Some of the world filters were pretty amusing too.
  9. I thought we had someone around that could handle these SCORCHING hot takes.
  10. I'm not quite sure why people are so down on him. He was more than I thought we'd get for Nunez. If that K rate continues, he can be more than a back of the rotation kind of guy. The question is whether 2016 happened b/c he got lucky or b/c something clicked.
  11. the big issue is that 5 seasons thing. For a 16 year old, he's a 40 man add at 21/22 depending on his start date. In Polanco's case, he hadn't played above low A at that point. Thanks for the info Spy.
  12. That explains the mis-management. I seem to remember him having to be added and kind of being annoyed that some kid starting in high A was getting added to the 40 man, but I'm fairly sure that was to prevent Rule V exposure. They really should get an extra year for 16 year olds and not treat them in the same way high school draftees are managed.
  13. sorry... not what I meant. 40 man add. He had to be added to the 40 man, which required those options to be used regardless. He wasn't an early 40 man add if I remember right. In that sense, the FO had no choice but to burn the options... yes, he could have gotten more ML PT, but in 2014 he clearly wasn't ready since he was in High A if I remember right.
  14. Technically, he did break out in High A.... however, the K rate he notched in A+ did not translate to AA. Hopefully we see numbers along the lines of his A+ numbers in AA.
  15. I loved this article. Nice to see a bit of the backstory.
  16. That's honestly my primary strategy... selling covered calls. I tend to be a bit more bearish though and prefer to sell when the market is overbought ( like it is now)...
  17. Why are you selling calls on a stock you're bullish on? Just curious.
  18. No clue. The sites were competitors for a while.
  19. The real story would be interesting, but I'd love to know where you concluded that the Twins were the only bidder. Don't remember seeing that (though I could be wrong).
  20. Anyone else heading down this year? I should be there March 24-26.
  21. I think we were hoping to get a JJ Hardy quality player for him.
