  1. Pretty much this... we have to spend some money this offseason. Even if they trade Dozier for pitching and Santana for more pitching in the high minors, you still have the problem of needing pitching right now with a hitting core that is here right now. I'd be fine with FA, Berrios, Mejia, May in 2018 with the 5th spot being a rotation of Gonsalves, Romero, and a couple of acquisitions... at least there's some depth there and promise.
  2. Personally, I think I like him more than Greene. Everyone likes Greene because he can throw triple digits, but all he has is a fastball presently and plenty of ML hitters can hit a 102 MPH pitch.
  3. Perhaps not too much, but if Boras knows they are going 9, he would be foolish to advise his client against 7-8 money at 1 overall... that's how those things work.
  4. Turley is by definition org filler, now that said, he's making a case for a 40 man add. Not sure I'd do it just yet, but he might be a worthwhile gamble as a starting pitcher or reliever given the organizational weakness. I wouldn't have high hopes for him at 27, but if something clicked, you have to give kudos to the org for seeing a potential diamond in the rough. As bad as the pitching is on this team, I have to think he should get a shot at some point.
  5. I think you're being a bit liberal with the idea that a guy like Gonsalves is right now a top 5 pitcher. There's a pretty wide gap between a bottom feeder major league pitcher and a top prospect. Just look at how Berrios struggled last year (far worse I'd add than Santiago and even Gibson are right now)... think about that, and he had far better results than Gonsalves and a better pedigree. That doesn't mean that Gonsalves would be a flop, but that we underestimate just how steep the curve is from the minors to the majors. I do agree that he needs to work on those walks. If AA is the right place, so be it, but if he continues to improve, my personal opinion would be get him a bit more challenge in AAA.
  6. this has been largely debunked for the record.
  7. If I read this right, we are talking 6 pitches... with 4 usable now???? How many are plus vs. future plus? I'm honestly curious. 6 pitches provides a lot of variety, and even he has no plus plus pitches, that's still potential ace territory if he has that many options to get out hitters. I think this is the right pick.
  8. Were we watching the same org over the last 5 years? TR wouldn't have sold in that situation. He most likely wouldn't have bought either. If it was Smith, it wouldn't have been Hu/Tapia for Jepsen. It would have been Sano for Jepsen.
  9. Yankees have some nice pitching prospects in AA as well. I agree here that they would be a good fit.
  10. This question, to me at least, goes back to whether this is a contender vs. a pretender. I'm in the second camp at the moment, but with Mejia and Berrios making good strides, it's not hard to envision this offense with a front three of Santana, Berrios, and Mejia. If they can fix one more starter and get a couple young arms going in the pen, they can compete in the playoffs.. I'm not sure I'd deal Santana right now for that reason. I'd evaluate again in a month. If the wheels fall of, deal him. If those other pieces don't come together, I'd probably deal as well, with many of the caveats here in that near ML ready starting pitching is likely what is coming back. There's not much of that in the high minors other than Gonsalves and Romero (and possibly Wright in another week). They need more...
  11. yuck. The correct answer is cheese and horseradish. Catsup/Ketchup or BBQ in a pinch.
  12. Me personally, no. I'm leaning towards Wright, but I don't have the data the Twins have.
  13. I think AAA at some point would be nice for Gonsalves, but yeah, he's got to work on the walks without question. He was a bit walk heavy in AA when he got promoted last year as well.
  14. Hmm... my personal cheeseballs aren't in this list. Wanted me some Rooker higher up.... Would also love to see them to take Parker Dunshee.
  15. Looks like he's continued to develop in spite of the injuries... SSS I know, but encouraging.
  16. DRod isn't really a prospect because of his age. He started out as a CF and eventually transitioned to pitching. He's done well, and I have to think he will get promoted as we near the ASB... The Twins will need to add him to the 40 man this offseason if they want to keep him in the org, so I think some aggression will be warranted... If he continues what he's doing in FTM in AA, we might have that dark horse pitching prospect we talked about at the beginning of the season.
  17. I'm with you... we likely won't lose them and they get their shot. Once they start adding guys like Hildenberger, they will need to keep them on the 40.
  18. I think Wimmers went first because he's an easy DFA if he fails. Businetz and Hildenberger won't be able to be DFAd if the org wants to keep them. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Wimmers is only up for a few weeks.
  19. Cannot argue with his eye... goodness... kid doesn't strike out. I'd still take Wright or McKay at this point though.
  20. Wells is exactly league average for his league, at age 22 in the MWL. He would certainly garner more notice if he was a year younger, but I also have to think he will be one of the first to get the call as we get closer to the all star break.
  21. I'm curious if Palka's K rate has dropped... The slash lines indicate some patience, not a ton, but not like ABW in that he will take a walk. The K rate is what will make or break Palka.
  22. I'm going to go with the bright side being that they might actually start thinking of making some call ups from the minors... Just checked in to see how the game went, and I'm checking out now...
  23. My guess would be Adam Brett Walker IV And to answer the question, I don't think Walker and Davis are the same kind of player...
  24. I've always preferred i. Imaginary numbers are cool and irrational. Edit: I see I'm a bit late to that show.
