  1. This type of summary might be a good post for the main forum... It may generate a bit more interest back here.
  2. I think someone takes him, but I think he's in senior sign territory as well. He's going to have to earn his way to the majors.
  3. I doubt any of these guys are here at 20... but if one makes it, I pray it's Carter Stewart.
  4. Rocker absorbs quite a bit of risk here. He has to pitch for Vandy for 3 years. And yes, is they develop him right, he's going to be in line for a top 5 selection in that point. The question really is whether that extra signing bonus is worth the risk of never getting drafted. Considering that no matter where he's drafted in the 1st round, he's set for life if he's smart, I'd argue smart money would be on going pro. He's also likely to spend less total time in the minors going pro straight out of HS than the time post college + his 3 years of college.
  5. yeah, it depends on the coding language the special character being used
  6. I would add that traits such as work ethic and how they conduct themselves with their teammates likely fit into the character component.. at least in their coaches eye. I agree that the definition is fairly fungible, but I do think there's quite a bit of common themes to it. It wouldn't surprise me if we are reading a bit more into Seth's definition. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Interesting post Ben... Not all will go there, but it says a lot. So here's another question, which schools consistently graduate major league ball players? I'm curious what the correlation is there.
  8. Jaye is 26, not exactly young. He has a career minor league ERA of over 4. A career minor league K rate under 7 and a career minor league walk rate of over 3. He was an org signing at best and has no chance of making the majors with Slegers, Littell, Gonsalves, Santana, and May all sitting ahead of him. I don't think there's much to lose here.
  9. I think a lot of that salary space is already locked up. Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, Berrios, and Polanco will all be looking at some sort of extension this winter. How that all plays out, who knows. I'd argue the team would be smart to pay a bit more now for a bit less later and smooth out those arbitration curves if possible.
  10. At the moment he probably gets optioned. He's not pitching well enough to deserve a spot, and while Lynn is the odd guy out, I'd be inclined to let him have a few more starts before I moved him to the pen (especially since he looked good in his last outing).
  11. I kind of wonder if the Pohlads forced this when SD came calling. A few days ago, we ust assumed the Twins were eating his salary. Then some team comes calling offering to take Hughes off our hand for a pick. I somehow doubt the front office could have said no. This catcher looks like org filler. Hopefully our scouts/analytics people see something in this catcher. I'm not sure I like the move, but then again, I'm not the one who just saved 7 million or so.
  12. I won't hold my breath on catchers dropping to them at 20... I do hope one of those HS arms does though. From there I hope they take the best college C at 2 or 3 and draft a couple more in the top 10. HS catching is harder to find, but if they can get one of those in this draft, I'll be pretty happy.. I'd also note that by our pick, there won't likely be a clear BPA.
  13. It's probably worth noting that we have a very deep system. Plenty of SPs that won't be going anywhere any time soon. I kind of wonder if makes sense to find a decent upside AAA catcher. Castro will be around next year, and they will need a second catcher anyways. Rortvedt won't be ready any time soon. Sounds like the kind of scenario where we could send a way a couple of decent prospects for a decent catcher and everyone could win.
  14. I wonder at what point does it make sense to option both Buxton and Sano. I realize that neither have much to learn in AAA, but there's something they aren't figuring out at the ML level that they can be sent down to work on. Both are liabilities in the lineups right now, and this team needs some bats. If Sano's problem is attitude as many think, then some time doing the AAA bus tours might do him good. As for Buxton, he never had much time in the high minors, so I kind of wonder if it makes sense for him to spend some time there working on identifying (and laying off of) breaking pitches.
  15. It's probably worth noting that their adopt a prospect page is updated fairly regularly. As well, there are articles on how they are doing every month or so. Keep coming back
  16. I was going to ask if he was getting squeezed a bit. 54 strikes out of 86 pitches is 63% strikes. That isn't bad, and certainly not a performance that typically leads to 4 walks.
  17. Yeah, dog's are superior... without question... though I might questions that dog's taste in beer.
  18. I'm guessing it has something to do with the depth of catching in the system. Middle infield is very deep, with lots of high ceiling guys in both the high and low minors, and while SS can move, you don't see many moving to catcher. I do hope the team drafts heavy on HS pitching and catching as well as college catching this draft.
  19. Probably closer to the all star break/post draft. That tends to be how teams do it... but yeah, I think both of these guys will get kicked upstairs.
  20. I could get behind this. He was a huge prospect at one point, though likely rushed a bit. Not sure if he will ever meet the hype, but he could be one of those late bloomers, and I'd take him over Wilson any day.
  21. Lynn has to pitch reasonable well to command anything in a trade. Otherwise, he just gets released. I'm not against that for the record if he continues to pitch poorly and both May and Santana are knocking at the door, but I think the idea that we would get anything for him, especially given the salary teams are taking on, is not something to count on.
  22. yeah, this one isn't tough. Odorizzi is pitching well. Lynn is not. If Romero continues to pitch well, and no one gets hurt, Lynn is the first one to the pen. I could potentially see a 6 man rotation if the team is set on getting Romero to pitch as a starter in the playoffs, but I suspect that they exercise May's option if no one gets hurt. But someone always gets hurt, so I'm not too concerned about this just yet.
  23. This team needs to fix LoMo, Buxton, and Sano. Offense will be fine if that's the case. I'm wondering if optioning Buxton is the right answer. I know it's not popular given his defense, but the guy needs to learn how to hit. Sano needs to learn how to lay off the curve ball, and to be honest, he may need to be optioned too if he comes back from his injury and continues to strike out at a 40% rate. Again, not popular, as I cannot promise that the guys replacing them will out perform them, but probably best for both of these kids in the long term.
