  1. I don't think that's the mentoring TR was so loquacious about. Of course when you only are making it safely to 1b once in every 15 AB, running hard seem a waste!
  2. Special is only one of many words that come to mind. But most of the others are not G-Rated!
  3. I have never experienced a play by play of a Hungry Man Dinner. This could get exciting. Maybe when you get to the stomach pumping part, Marney Gellnar can do a live emote, and Dick can circle you!
  4. have never heard the. They are worse?
  5. I get so tired of listened to Dick/Roy, that I look forward to the interviews with the people from Minot in the stands! They should give Roy the scratch offs, it would keep him busy!
  6. When they coined the phrase, "into each life a little rain must fall" I do no think they had this in mind!
  7. There is a lot to be said for a catcher that can hit and play defense. There is something to be said for a catcher that can do one of the two. There is nothing to be said for a catcher who can't do either. Kurts recent little streak belies the fact that his spot in the lineup has been a black hole. And his throwing deficiencies are masked by a puzzling lack of attempts considering his throw out %. And no, I am not calling for Turner this late in the season. That train has left the station.
  8. Randy Moss tried that in, I think, Green Bay? It was not well received! For the record, I thought it was hilarious.
  9. My point exactly! For if the river were on the walk, it would require one to walk on water. And there are few of us with that ability! :)
  10. While there is a chance for cats to be on a cat walk, there are no cakes on a cake walk, and no rivers on a river walk! But don't dismiss walks out of hand. The Twins place great emphasis on walks! Both thrown and taken. Little known fact. There is previous history to the term cat walk in baseball that precedes domed stadia. In the fifties, the late, not that great, Ray Katt took 74 free passes in 8 years. These rare occurrences were widely referred to as (wait for it) Katt Walks!
  11. If Plouffe and Hunter aren't gone next year the whole roster construction remains the mess it currently is. This is not a commentary on Plouffes ability. He is the odd man out. Sano will field like Plouffe did 2 years ago, and like Plouffe will likely improve. This could be a special team by mid 2016, if TR makes some tough decisions.
  12. I would be surprised if he brings him up. Ryan will likely lean on the innings limit thingy again. That said, someone else who called for his promotion made a point of mentioning Berrios use in high leverage situations. That is not normally the "Twins Way". And if they are not going to actually use him when it really counts, then they should not burn a year to use him in Graham type of work. This is not to suggest I think Berrios is not capable, it just means I don't think they will trust important innings to him. The Duffey experiment was so far successful. But it was driven by necessity. Without injuries, neither Duffey, Buxton, or I think even Hicks would even be here. TR prefers to dip his toes into well aged water.
  13. That is seven names that will strike fear into baseball fans, sadly they will mostly be Twins fans. Santana and Nolasco will get 40% of the starts. Then which Hughes will appear? The bad Hughes gets you to 60% of mostly hopelessness! Whoever thought we would look at Santana's exclusion from the playoffs as a good thing!
  14. I think some of the angst for guys like Robinson, and in my case Hunter, is beyond their control. They are there and blocking better talent, so some frustration gets directed their way. As for Arcia, I have always been a fan of his. I think when he got injured, did well in Rochester, and was not called back he was getting jerked around by the FO. There is more their than we know about. It's probably time for him to be moved, since Kepler can fill all 3 OF spots, and 1B. But Oswaldo didn't just forget how to hit. He's only 24, and we will be watching him hit bombs on ESPN for years, likely in someone else's uniform.
  15. May could pitch in next years pen, until a Burdi or Jay comes up. That moves May to the rotation, and by then it will be time to move Milone out or jettison Ricky. By the way, Milone will be back, a little Burdi told me.
  16. You didn't have to apologize, the guest of honor at the funeral home was probably already dead when he got there. VodkaDave should be a St. Petersburg fan. I hear Vodka is the drink of choice. They even have a Family Plan. Two adults, two children : Four shots of Vodka and four slices of black bread, and a shirtless Vladimir Putin Bobblehead, all for 14,225 rubles.
  17. According to this Santana is not eligible to pitch a 163. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/07/04/twinsights-ervin-santana-has-no-regrets-after-80-game-drug-suspension/
  18. Is anyone really surprised by this seeming contradiction. Ryan is not noted for aggressive decisions. I believe that's why he is so fond of mediocre veterans. While they won't get any better, they're track record is established and they won't get any worse. It's kind of like buying a Dodge Caravan. While it won't turn any heads, the odds are you won't have to get towed either!
  19. The problem isn't how many games back, currently 2.0 per the Trib, it's that there are 4 teams in front of them. Angels, Baltimore, Texas and Tampa Bay. That means if you're going to play mediocre baseball, like 83.5 baseball, you need all 4 to also play mediocre baseball. One sneaky team going out on a hot streak, and you are toast. It doesn't mean the Twins can't/won't win the WC, it just makes the odds infinitesimally smaller!
  20. Which in a nutshell is what the Twins choice was this year. They could lose with veterans, or they could lose while giving acclimation time to rookies. The month of May seems to have caused them to be somewhere in between!
  21. Well written article, but if you want any responses you should throw in something about Mauer going back to catching! All sarcasm aside, my contention all along is that this season should have been a year long try out camp. But instead we spent a lot of it playing pretender. That's the puzzle that is Terry Ryan. He seems to understand that this was not a playoff team, see the trade deadline. Then he doesn't, see Torri Hunter and your comments on the pen. Would Buxton assuredly, or even Hicks be up without injuries to Shafer, and in Buxtons case, Hicks? To touch on Dozier, and the following will be more unpopular than snow in June, should we look at trading him for a catcher? He is a good ball player, which you will have to trade to get a good catcher. But I really do not see him keeping his power numbers. Mostly because his power in not natural, there won't be any opposite field HR's. Polanco seems a offensive second baseman, not a SS. So we have some replacement options there, but not behind the plate.
  22. I think it's tricky how they let you drive into those tunnels in Baltimore, and then when you get out on the other end, they tell you that you have to pay! If I had known that I would have used the bridge instead!
