  1. Seths point about the BP being constructed more or less the same as always, is pretty much spot on. The Twins have been very late to the dance in recognizing velocity as an intregal part of RP. Or maybe to put it in another light, they might recognize it, but Ryan just cannot live with the likely walk rate that comes with that velocity. It is not easy to change the pitch to contact spots on a 60 plus year old leopard! He may say all the right things about emulating the KC BP, but it's a completely different matter to develop high velocity pitching, than natural strike throwers. Sometimes you just have to accept a walk and a SO as the equivalent of a fly ball to the warning track!
  2. There doesn't seem to be a formula or a blueprint for bringing up youth. Some fail out of the box (Hicks), and some later, (Vargas). But they all seem to need multiple rotations through Rochester. Right now Sano and Rosario appear to be the golden children. As did Arcia, Santana, and Vargas previously. But there is no guarantee that won't change next year. Few care to remember that it wasn't too long ago, that Brian Dozier was the Danny Santana of his class!
  3. Your two thoughts on the younger l players getting experience, and the veterans struggling should be the focus for what remains of the season. I know it's been a long dry spell, and that this opinion is not popular, but they need to keep evaluating, and getting reps for the younger players, with the idea of determining which vets can be packaged with some of the log jammed prospects to get a catcher and a SS who can FIELD! I still think the arms are in the minors to replenish the bull pen, especially if some imagination is used. As for the SP, that's a little tougher. There appear to have been some poor decisions made in the length and amounts of contracts offered to middling vets. It's gonna be hard to get out from under them. As for the season, we can still play "meaningful games". But the focus should be on building a long term competitive team, not squeaking into a one and done WC game.
  4. Why would anyone wonder about New York? It's a very well known city in New York!
  5. "Stellar defensively"? Can you compare his glove to a current player in the majors? If he can really pick it, and hit .230 and run, YEAH! It's been a long time since we have had a good consistent defensive SS.
  6. I agree. If there is one thing this team does not need it's another left handed power hitter!
  7. .....With that start in the minds of Duffey and the Twins organization, this upcoming start is his last chance to prove himself in the majors. His stats in Triple-A have been impressive throughout the season, but those stats need to transfer into the MLB. >>>>>>>. Ok, so I got a little carried away with my sarcasm. As you did with your prediction of pending doom! My comment was mostly driven by my frustration with the constant labeling of players as successful or as failures after a few games. And it seems this year it's exacerbated with the number of younger players. It's a tough game, it takes years to master. But, alas we live in the "instant gratification" age of unenlightnenment!
  8. Wow! His last chance? Ever? To make the majors? At 24? WOW! If every pitcher in MLB who blew his first two starts never got another chance, there would be about 12 pitchers currently in the majors.
  9. First off, I don't recall mentioning Santana or Vargas in my comment. That said, I am not sure if your data represented minor league or MLB numbers or both. Either way, Sano does draw walks, and does strike out a lot. I don't need advance metrics to tell me that he is not the free swinger that Oswaldo is. As Nelson pointed out in his article, Arcia had 34 HR's in his part time seasons, third most for anyone under 24. That's not chump change. His numbers when he got injured were decent, and unlike everyone else when his medical issues cleared, he just got left in Rochester. Something is amiss there, as his hot streak numbers nor his cold streak numbers seem Immaterial to his return. Back to Sano. I love him. I went to Beloit just to see him play. My comments were meant to address that the fawning may be slightly premature. I am not sure he has even been to all the parks in the AL Central yet?
  10. Arcia was arguably as good a hitter in the minors, and is back there. And Dozier is finding out that if you only hit one pitch out of the park, it leaves an awful lot of plate to cover. I do agree Sano will be awfully good. But I think the annointment might be premature. Plus, since that epic day in July, I think the Twins are about 15-20.
  11. The good news about the Santana meltdown is TR will finally learn that he has to quit giving long term contracts to 30+ year old pitchers! ROFLMAO
  12. That's not only an update, it's a day to day occurrence!
  13. Texas was the epitome of the Wild Wild West, yet some our best gunslingers, murders and train robbers came from the great Midwest! Jesse James, Wild Bill, Billy da Kid, and Cole Younger and his brothers. After Northfield some of the Younger brothers not only did not get any younger, they didn't get any older! I don't even think the Earp boys and Doc Holliday were Texans! Name me one decent criminal that came from Texas?
  14. I have been all over Texas, and frankly have no idea why Davey Crockett put up such a big fight for it?
  15. I remember Staying on So Padre Island and the woman at the motel told me how lucky I was to be there when I was. I asked why? She said cuz next week all the college kids were there, music, noise, drunk guys, girls taking off their shirts! I asked if my room could be extended a week!
  16. Dick just told us there was a players only meeting today! And there was the Molitor meeting, and the expletive fueled Hunter rant. Maybe they should take batting practice instead of all those meeting? Ok, that was snarky, and I apologize profusely!
  17. He has an editor? So the stuff he writes isn't all his fault?
  18. They used to allow passing on the yellow, it was accepted that the oncoming and the passed car would move over on some of their wider two lanes. Sadly they don't tell u that at the border. At first it was quite disconcerting. I think they outlawed that now.
  19. John, in your second paragraph, during your attempt at amateur psychology, you point out that some people want the team to give up, so they in essence no longer invest themselves in a losing cause? Or is it possible that many of these same people see it differently. Either those who see this as another in a long line of decisions that almost invariably go towards a veteran presence over raw talent. Or, those of us who never thought Hunter should have been signed by this team, this year, and saw his signing as a sop to the casual fan base. The "Hey Torii's back" group! Frankly I am in both of the aforementioned camps!
  20. If the Texas Rangers were named for the Texas Rangers, should they not be the Texas Rangers Jr.? If I get stopped for speeding in Texas, (which btw is almost impossible to do) how will I know which Ranger I am talking to?
  21. "Thank God for Mike Pelfrey" I never thought I would see those 5 words consecutively in TD, or for that matter anywhere !
  22. This is exactly why I was, have been, and will be against Hunters signing last year, and this coming year. First it made an uncomfortable and all ready defensive RF move to LF this spring, and now he is not only blocking Buxton, he will end up costing either Rosario, Arcia, Hicks, or more likely Kepler a ML job next year. It's decisions like this that have turned the term "Twins Way" into such a derisive term.
  23. We are so loaded with talent, we have won exactly how many series since the AS break? We can't find playing time for the top prospect? The only part of that paragraph I agreed with is the part about Terry Ryan composing his resume. So if they are putting him in AAA for a couple weeks, what changes in a couple weeks? Sept call ups won't make anymore room for him. Torii Hunter should not be blocking a player of Buxtons pedigree. And Robinson should not be taking innings away either. Not on this team, in this situation. All I can say, is that if Buxton cannot move a declining 40 yr old out of the way, either he is not as good as advertised, or the people making the decisions aren't.
