  1. Luckily Vincent only heard half of that!
  2. I lived next to an elderly widow! She was not very nice at all.
  3. Apparently Bernadinos references to Cruz's past "body building" techniques did not hurt his feelings in the least.
  4. you actually have your choice of that or a noogy
  5. You want answers? I think I'm entitled. You want answers? I want the truth. You can't handle the truth.
  6. The fact that Ryan did not go all in makes me think he knows this team is not going to the playoffs. Before the barbs start flying, I don't think you could "fix" our problems at the waiver wire. You would have to have destroyed the minor leagues, and would not have gotten the needed pieces. The trade is basically minsicule in and of itself. But it's the failure to make wholesale internal changes in the bull pen that is frustrating. And the failure to take advantage of the move of May to the BP. This winter something has to be done to straighten out the roster imbalances. Our glut of OF, and CIF has to be turned into a catcher, a power arm on the BP, likely a SS, and a first string pitcher. Without trying to denigrate anyone, a couple months ago there was discussion on here on whether Hughes was an "ace"? This should tell us something about how engrained mediocrity is, in this market.
  7. "Right now" being the operational words here. I guess it could have been worse though. This has the smell of a trade made in desperation so we don't have to do the "there were a lot of players out there, but we just couldn't find the right match" press conference. I am in the "don't do anything" camp, the time to fix this roster is this winter, not in July. This guy might be somewhat better than what we have, but that is an awfully low bar.
  8. 54 minutes to hold our breath. This thread could get uglyl, I think I am going to go mow lawn. .
  9. Who's pitching for the Rays? Hu! That's what I just asked, who's pitching for the Rays. (Humble apologies to Abbot and Costello) or Hu ever did this bit
  10. And why does this surprise anyone? A vet pitcher, with declining numbers. Hmmm, that sounds eerily familiar.
  11. The splitting of so many hairs, in so many directions, by so many posters, is historically the worst in history! . For our next topic, how about the best start, historically, in history, for a player that then gets historically bad! This could be historically, the most hysterical thread yet produced.
  12. My point on Hicks as compared to other players who struggled was not to analyze the level of each ones struggle, but to point out that failing is common, being sent down is common, and coming back up and succeeding is possible. Was Hicks the worst player ever to perform in MLB (historically)? I will let you guys fight that out. To expand on my post, even at the beginning of the year, many on here would have thrown Hicks in with Ricky No No in a trade for Jim Huey! (Sp) My point was not to statisize his level of incompetency with the worst of all time, solely to point out that it's possible for the Santana's et al to resurrect their career. As for whether he was rushed here because the devil dangled the apple from the Garden of Eden in front of TR, and he just couldn't resist? While that might have been true, hitting him lead off did no one any favors. Managers who put players in situations that they are not suited for, and then look for someone to blame, should always be standing in front of a mirror during the search!
  13. I would agree. And next winter will fully clarify, and cement, Ryan's GM status. I truly think he knows talent. But is he going to be able or willing to make decisions next winter to straighten out the roster, by using some log jammed players to fill in some voids. This might require moving a couple solid veterans, but if he doesn't make some serious moves I do think we remain a middling team, wasting talent as we go.
  14. Hicks route to this level of play, is not uncommon. Hunter, Dozier, and others have followed it. And it's to be considered before we give up on the likes o Santana, Arcia, and Vargas. Is also why it's so important to get these young guys some experience this year, so we can get serious about being a contender. They all need some acclimation time.
  15. Mauer was the right guy, in the right place, at the right time, to get his contract. The "Perfect Storn". Plus, if he had not been re-signed, and at even a much higher rate, Twinsdom would have erupted. As for the present, IF he is the cause of the Twins losing, it's would not be his contract, it would be his performance. And if it he is blocking someone younger, better from playing, it's not his contract, or him that's doing that. It's a lack of intestinal fortitude by management. I like Mauer, I liked him better as a catcher. But love him or hate him, he is the key piece in the restructuring of the entire lineup. Until they figure what, if anything, to do with him, they are just treading water.
  16. I was sure when Sano played third that Arcia wou....... Whoops sorry! So Brian, if your chores are piling up, maybe it's you that need to be rubbing your thighs together to attract your mate. But if it works I would not start off the discussion with, "take out the garbage, and don't drink so much"! What to say? I have always found the term, "fetch me a beer" to be a real conversation starter!
  17. Concur? But to make this solid theory work, you have to be willing to move that player if things do not work out as planned. Basically make German Potato Salad out of potatoes!
  18. Maybe I should have been more concise. And maybe more descriptive. The Twins are not prone to play big swinging, all or nothing style hitters. In the style of an Arcia, Dunn, Big Papi, etc. and that is there prerogative. Almost all this type hitter is pull happy. BD does not fit that description regardless of his hit chart. HR for him are an added, and surprising addition. He's also a decent defensive player, base runner etc. While I expect his HR output to go down, it's highly doubtful his playing time will. His value, and of the last 18 months Plouffes, is more varied. The ones I listed are more long ball focused, which I still contend is not a Twins priority. Btw, Dozier and Plouffe did not come up as sluggers. They both came up as SS, failed, transitioned to other positions, where there were absolutely no other options, developed, and refined there hitting style lastly. They were so down on Dozier overall, they tried to convert Rosario to an IF. I doubt Doziers spray chart was the reason for that.
  19. You named one guy, Dozier, who is strictly pull happy, and if he doesn't start seeing more up and in FB, that might have to change. . Plouffe evolved on his own? And most players power is to pull. Sano? I don't think there is anywhere near enough history there to analyze. He still hasn't had a brutal stretch where he presses. As for the meme being past its expiration date, why would it have changed? Tom Kelly is a huge influence still, the GM is back, the hitting coach is from that era, and Molly has been around here forever. TR did not hire a new staff that was going to tear the Twins Way down and rebuild it. They do shift more, and appear more analytical, but some of the old ways remain. Low SO rates across the board, work the count is way too emphasized, as is pure power to ignored. Big power guys strike out as a rule fairly often. Now, you may not like that, and not want them on your roster, that's the teams choice. But the fact is, they still try to mold players to their philosophy, instead of playing to that players strength.
  20. If Vegas put out an over under on the Twinks resigning Hunter, I would take the over on 99.8%! The only chance he is not re-upped is if the team keeps losing, he gets disgusted, sees an easy in to a contender, and asks for a trade. That possibility diminishes by the second. There is little history of TR looking to younger players when a suitable veteran is available and still ambulatory. While I am not advocating or judging each of the following competitions, tthey will mostly play out that way: Plouffe/Sano, May/Nolasco, Dozier/Polanco, MLB bullpen/MiLB bullpen, Hunter/Arcia/Kepler, and Suzuki/fill in the blank! It's the Twins Way!
  21. This roster is crippled by mediocrity. It has NO studs. No Johan Santana, Kirby, pre-injured Mauer or Morneau. Perkins, odd as it is to say at this time is the closest. The pitching staff is full of maybe a 2, and the rest are 3-4 1/2's. If you eliminate the young players for whom the jury is still out, and apply the same 1-5, I cannot name a 1. Dozier is a very decent second baseman, but likely not a 1, and if he doesn't adjust to the way he is being pitched, he is going to regress. I put Plouffe and Mauer kind of on the same plane, Mauer better avg, Plouffe more power. Both average fielders. Hunter is a 4.0, whoops I meant 40! I don't have to get into Suzuki, Robinson, Nunez, et all. EE is a nice utility player, who is being presented as the SS. Some of the above, quite a bit, is on Ryan. There are logjams blocking young talent. Many talk about trading prospects for unrealistic returns, or minsicule returns. Just to do something? I would sell, but sell veterans and start moving in the new pieces. Not because the present ones are "bad", but because this is what they are. And it ain't enough.
