  1. I Have used the Oliva Arcia comparison many times. He was a terrible outfielder with a great arm and bat! Hmm sounds familiar.
  2. Your post is spot on, absolutely correct. Perfectly phrased. Sensible and concise! But without any consideration for the current reality. The only way Ricky Nolasco is not headed a spot in the rotation on a platter, is if they accidentally remove his foot during the surgery!
  3. My pick would be Escobar, who provides the highest floor and least risk going forward. Jorge Polanco also could figure in, but I can't see that he's ready to contribute. I agree with much of the post, and everyone has their personal opinions on players. But I am not looking for players with high floors, I want players with high ceilings. Especially as this is in essence audition time. As far as opinions on players, Polanco seems Santana 2, but without the arm! He is destined to end up looking at the back of Doziers jersey for years. Or, some teams would take a chance, find a good catcher and offer BD as bait. Yes that's dicey, but Suzuki is not going to get any better.
  4. Yes, where would we fit yet another big stick in our lineup?
  5. I thought we were just past the .5 of the season? Another disclaimer coulda/shoulda been: There is no connection between the terms "Dick/Bert" and "medical knowledge"!
  6. Very nice report. A comment! Please tell me that there are not two teams named the Iron Pigs? If there are then the one in PA must be a reference to the iron industry. And the one in Burlington is a reference to very sturdy hogs!
  7. The Twins bullpen is reflective of the Twins. Safe decisions are best decisions. Sometimes you MUST have a SO, not just rely on a well placed ground ball or short fly ball. As for Graham, he has not been half bad. He isn't Wade Davis, but Wade Davis wasn't always Wade Davis! (If you don't get that PM Brian, he will explain!)
  8. Excelent point! A lot of "food" of mediocre quality, but reliably filling!
  9. And as long as we are delving into inadequacies, something has to be done about the catching. I am not sure how fast Chiefs grandma is, but she would have little chance to be thrown out by either Twins catcher. I would have no problem with Zuke as the backup, but it's time to do something about the position. Being tough and blocking balls in the dirt only get you so far. As far as hitting goes, that apparently was a 3 months apparition.
  10. The bull pen is bad, but would be more of a moot point if there was any semblance of an offense. There is never a margin for error, errors, or walks!
  11. This post was borderline Sadomasochistic!
  12. Does anyone think that Pelfreys last tirade over getting dropped to the pen, effected this decision.
  13. IF you are going to do that, wait till he gets to second!
  14. I guess I would have gone righty Cain, and then Duensing to the lefties! But he didn't. Regardless, after Cain made third I walk em full. Force outs save at least a step, and if he walks them in, meh! He really did put Thompson in an untenable situation with Cain. Btw, Cain must have had a hell of a jump. As to the poor scmuck rookie, if the third base coach told him to go, he got hung out to dry. Even with that off line throw he was out by a couple yards.
  15. Unless TR is no longer GM, Torri Hunter will be back! Probably at the cost of Arcia. And we will get to see Arcia finally mature somewhere else. He's already just turned 24, so there's no reason for the Twins to keep him.. Torri on the other hand will be a young man of 40, and has a long and bright future of mentoring ahead of him.
  16. And I am assuming you have not watched the Twins FO for the last, quite a few, years! :) Hunters resigning will be like the Bunonic plague! first you hear about it, but it's nothing to worry about! Then you hear there's a chance it might be close! Then you find out it's almost here! Then you start to cough! Lol
  17. Utility guys could also just be utility infielders. Which would be pretty preferable. In a normal world, the bench would not be as short, Because the BP would be one pitcher shorter. Hicks would have been back by now. And instead of TRYING to get EE into a game via LF, they would be AVOIDING putting him out there. As for Santana in CF, he gets credit for doing the best he can. That can't be said for the FO. They failed to address the CF issue, which caused them to non evaluate the SS positon all last year. Leaving an undefined black hole there. The playing of EE in the OF is a reflection of the FO molasses slow reaction to injuries, and promotions, and it's deep doghouse. And as far as Santana not hitting well enough to play SS, and the same "problem" for Hicks, then someone has to explain why for years we have used the DH to give utility level players AB's and as a "vacation day" for whomever. Get some production out of the Dah spot, and maybe you can carry a glove first SS or CF.
  18. “Things happen, we all know that,” Ryan told the Star Tribune. “Paul is very adept with connecting with players, I can tell you that. Most players will be very receptive. If I went to them, it might be a different story. It will be a tough decision for whoever winds up getting squeezed.” Looks like TR is going to tell Molitor who goes. Molitor will then pass on the good news, while connecting with the receptive recipient, while TR is on the first plane to Chattanooga!
  19. First of all, our "vaunted prospects" are ever going to get MLB ready in Rochester. They already mastered Rochester, or they would not have been called up. (Arcia, Vargas, Hicks, Santana). Also, if we need a 41 yr old RF to play regularly, we are not going to be truly a contender. Maybe an entertaining pretender, but that's it. If you are not going the Yankees and Red Sox route to win, you need home grown players. And that takes patience. And I am not talking one season either.
  20. You could walk Sano to load the bases, and still not have too much trouble getting the next 3 outs!
  21. Sadly I agree. Sadlier is that he will be back next year. .
  22. It is very difficult to have your name (TR) on a 2 mil contract, and then cut the guy. It's a blatant admission that you bleeped up! And it's not that no one bleeps up, everyone does. It's that no one wants to admit it so very publicly! And as one other poster pointed out, the Twins like Duensing. And the Twins are faithful to a fault to the players the "like".
