  1. Concur. We have very short memories, and sometimes less patience. There is a good chance we will be having a form of this discussion in less than a month over Sano. While I believe you go with the young talent if it's upside is substantially better than the middling veteran, I never expect it to be w seamless, or painless transition. It's all about the long game, not the initial SSS.
  2. The Vanimal half of that trade actually went quite well! After a somewhat lackluster career here we were able to trade him to Pittsburgh for cash! You can never have too much cash! Just think how much better the Twins would be if we had traded JJ Hardy for cash.
  3. Hicks has given the team options in what to do with Buxton. As for Torii, it's not whether he will be traded, he won't be! It's whether they sign him for next year? They will!
  4. I heard Torii had a no trade contract?
  5. In Chiefs honor, someone has to ask why you did not include a sacrifice bunt!
  6. There are fireworks after the game. I hope Dave doesn't have too early a flight out of Minot tomorrow? :) On a less humorous note, Dick/Bert just mentioned that the Togers have out homered us 18-3 this year???
  7. Lost in the excitement of this close contest, is that Kurt Suzuki has become a hitting machine!
  8. It's very difficult to score any runs when the third baseman catches the ball.
  9. That's what I figured, she is reading over your shoulder!
  10. you are either exceedingly romantic, or your wife is reading your posts over your shoulder!
  11. This game is a nice time for some of our lower level relievers to get some work in. I assume that May will be next. We need to save our front line BP guys for tomorrow!
  12. There would have been a lot of people in ND who would have challenged that first statement! Fortunately for you, in MI you won't have that problem! Once DST ends, you will be back on ND time!
  13. You should have flown all the way to Mpls. They have an airport, and then you could have taken the liberal light rail the last ten miles.
  14. I never really got the Wings thing? Messy, and an awful lot of nibbling for little reward. I do understand the never being able to replace the favorite perfect product. Still looking 30 yrs later for the perfect onion rings! The old place burned down, and was never rebuilt. A loss for humanity!
  15. I have no idea how Graham will end up, but I do like his arm, and stuff. Fortunately we have an excess of quality relievers, so we can nurture him and let him marinate for several years until he learns the intricacies of long relief!
  16. The good news is Justin Verlander is 0-2! The bad news is Justin Verlander is 0-2! The really bad news is Justin Verlander did not get to be JUSTIN VERLANDER by being 0-3! Can the Twins reduce him to just plain ol Justin?
  17. The starting pitching! The starting pitching! The starting pitching! It's why the Twins are relevant right now. The bull pen is kind of mundane, the offense often relies on third baseman who can't catch line drives, and the base running is suspect. And yes, Molitor does do some things differently than his predecessor. That's why his predecessor, is a predecessor! But the starting pitching has been very good, almost to the point of excellent. Is that Neal Allen? Paul Molitor? Or the Twins version of the Vulcan Mind Meld? There is nothing wrong with Molitor as a manager. He has done ok with the players handed him. What would I do given the choice of whether to bunt Suzuki to the nine hole? I would call time out, go up to the big office and ask TR if he could get me two guys who can make decent contact. Any other alternative was never gonna work well!
  18. Maybe to summarize! Some TD posters, like me, are just a little gun shy! I for one will be very relieved when Aug 1st rolls around, if we have not given up someone of the Polanco, Arcia, Kepler, or even Hicks ilk for some middling reliever. (Or two). Same more or less goes for a catcher, unless he's a very good one, with at least 3 seasons of control. There have been some very good analytical articles written about why it's so difficult to be a buyer this year, meaning there are no good deals to be had. I hope someone at 1 Twins Way has read them.
  19. I don't know if this report is true, but I do know something that is. There is nothing as appealing to TR as an aging veteran! It's like dangling candy in front of a baby!
  20. They have done this before! See Aaron Hicks!
  21. Knowing Pinto was gonna get hit in the head three times is beyond my psychic abilities, so I would have had to have made that decision with the available knowledge last July, when Pinto had not yet gotten whacked. If my psychic abilities had reached the level of some on TD, I would have kept Ramos, knowing Mauer was going to get foul tipped to death many years later. (Actually I would have kept him anyway).
  22. If the Twins had used Suzuki to try and evaluate Pinto as a starter last year, most of what they did would have made sense. But they didn't. They signed a guy with a long history of mediocrity, who went BS crazy for three months, and then paid him based on that small sample size. And they got exactly what they deserved. Massive regression to the norm. I never saw the rationale to this. If you are going to play a catcher who can't hit, at least play one who is a very good defensive catcher.
  23. Polanco is making more errors that Santana, and does not have the arm. A lot of Santana's errors were early on, that seems to have settled down. More range than EE, and still upside. It took Dozier and Plouffe several YEARS to become competent, or has that been forgotten. If you can't vastly improve a position you need to look at how much a certain player will improve. Escobar will not get any better, Nunez is not a glove man, and two weeks of Polanco at SS would make everyone wish Santana was back. You should not employ a SS to make up for the lack of offense your corner guys, aren't providing. Good grief, there were people calling for Buxton to be demoted after a week. BTW, whomever is the SS, I want a very good fielding SS who might hit a little, vs a good hitter, who can play SS a little.
  24. The real question is, do you trade prospects for one slim chance at a one and done playoff run? Or do you trust your last 3-4 years evaluation, which has been telling you that you have a special group of talent, some here, but many more in the 2016 wings, and build a long term contender? I don't even think it's a difficult decision. But say you want to to go for it. You need a catcher, a SS, a PROVEN power bat, two shutdown middle relievers, and an ace pitcher. That's if you really are serious about making noise, not just sqeaking in by a half game as a wild card team. This team has a lot of holes. Bite the bullet, and keep filling them internally. This is not a team that needs a rental player!
  25. Are too! Glad you told that one, I heard it about 50 yrs or so ago, and I had forgotten that so many cops came to dig I'm the garden!
