  1. I am leaning towards the power struggle thing. I have always heard Molitor was Pohlads guy. I think Gardy knew that, and it's why he didn't want Molitor in the dugout.
  2. This is a one shot deal! It took 4 yrs of 90 loss seasons for them to change managers. It took a myriad of strange extensions, DH acquisitions, and one of the oddest roster constructions in history to change the GM. If the Twins promote from within, it will be another 20 years for a correction to be made. The standard for mediocrity has been set, and it isn't that hard to match. Thankfully I don't think JP will go within, he needs a marketing move badly. Every other sport in this town is on the upswing, and his team teeters on the brink of irrelevance. A fate far worse than losing. The only good that could come from Pohlad listening to his comments to the press is the realization he needs insulation, i.e. a baseball operations Pres. Heaven help us if it's Dave St. Peter.
  3. It seems every inside tidbit ever written has given the impression that Molitor was Pohlads guy. Even back in the Gardy era, I remember It said Gardy didn't want him as a coach, and the next year it appears Molitor was forced on him. Something is missing in this story, and I wonder if we will ever know? Here's another pleasant thought. After JP read all those team media guides, and discovered that a lot of teams have baseball operations Presidents, and he looks back at his own success dealing with the media jackals, maybe he will have the new GM report directly to DSP! That way Scoggins can call Dave up late at night!
  4. Santana makes plenty mistakes, a lot I think from seeming lack of confidence. But this wasn't one of them. Molitor wanted him to run on a 3-2, but Santana sure didn't want to get picked off first. So a medium lead is in order, not a straight up steal lead. If Molitor wanted a straight steal he should have done it earlier in the count. To repeat, DanSan can be a walking disaster, but this wasn't one of them. And he isn't blocking Polanco. At this time that honor goes to Dozier, with EE and Nunez as close runners up.
  5. In defense of Dan San a) I would have run there also. b ) I would not have gotten too early a jump and got picked off since it was basically a hit and run. c) sometimes a catcher makes a perfect throw, and you are just plain toast!
  6. since I can't edit this, I have to correct it! How the hell did I want to type girl, and end up with cat! I hate cats in the house! Now I admit there were days I wasn't that happy with girls either, but my mom was!
  7. Scary don't cover it! and two of them is like a horror story sequel! 4. Watch other kids, and admit and remember that yours aren't really any different! My dad was one of five boys, and I am one of 5 boys..... My mother was tickled when we had a girl!

  10. So if Ryan was bringing in the kids, and Molitor preferred the vets, was this a power struggle between Ryan and Molitor?
  11. To be fair, Ryan put this mess on the filed this spring, and Molitor had to tray and make it work. Some things cannot be done. So I give him a pass on the roster. But some of his decisions in hunting, stealing, and in the handling of discipline serve a lot of questions to be answered. I do agree with the posters who express concern over the owner preempting the new GM's managerial choice. That's not a good way to start a search.
  12. So now it appears the die was cast a month ago. Ryan was not coming back in 2017, and Pohlad allowed him to orchestrate the end. Apparently on Friday Ryan walked in and pulled the pin? Per Trib.
  13. Something had to have precipitated this move. The Pohlads don't operate this way, and certainly not in their highest profile position. But nothing seems to track. Ryans modus operandi would be cautious minimal movement, with little cash spent on eating contracts. If the Pohlads disagreed, it's their money and Ryan could/should have spent it. The vice versa is Ryan wanting to eat huge amounts of contracts, he signed players too. That isn't in his DNA. Ryan wanted to fire Molly? And JP didn't? Doesn't seem like the thing TR would fall on his sword for. and throw in the timing before the trade deadline and it's odd, odd, and very odd! Sadly, the only thing I can come up with is JP wanted to make a big trade involving a couple ignore prospects for veterans that would win some games short term? But even that's a stretch, since I am not sure if JP knows what the infield fly rule is. The trouble with thinking out loud is everyone can read it!
  14. I would have liked this, but the last sentence seemed extreme, even for a Canadien! .
  15. . FTFY.
  16. Never thought it would happen, I thought before that would ever happen Trump would be nominated for Pres! But like all things Twins, there is the other shoe which dropped! Rob Anthony. Not only don't the Twins go outside the orginization, they don't even go outside the executive bathrooms when looking for replacements. The new GM was likely hired standing at the men's facilities? .
  17. . That's a principle TR should have put on a plaque and hang on his wall!
  18. I could see that possibl low SO pitchers, and pitchers who allow a lot of "loud" contact affect defense. Catching a screaming line drive in the gap is far more difficult than catching a pop up at third base! . But as to the Twins specifically, I have made this point before. For whatever reason, management seems to put far more emphasis, at least now, on offense than defense. For example, Nunez and EE when hitting well, are still not anywhere near elite SS defensively. Their hitting may contribute to the teams success, and mitigate their fieding negatives, but it still leaves your pitchers with less defensive support. Also, a lot of the teams defensive problems seem to be mental. Poor communication on pop ups, throwing to wrong bases, missing cutoff men. Not knowing where you were going to throw the ball, BEFORE it was hit to you. IF in the OF. This team is sorely lacking in basic fundamentals!
  19. IMHO, when I read your post you have the years 2015 and 2016 reversed! . You are correct about the cyclical nature of sports, the structure guarantees it. The secret is to make the cycles shorter on the losing end, and longer on the winning end. That's what differentiates good management!
  20. You really cannot win with defense like this backing up a low SO staff. It's not just Sano. Suzuki threw out two runners, albeit on a pitchout and an odd steal of third with a lefty batting. It's such a rare event he will probably be called in for a "sample"! Nunez lollygagged a throw to first, costing Gomes far more than the Twins. Escobar a boot, Santana a misjudged fly ball, Dozier fell over, but hung on to a pop up. And that was just today. The team has likely only one very good defensive player, and that's Buxton. That's what happens when you decide you are going to be an offensive juggernaut, and club other teams into submission. There are a lot of things that have changeed over the years about baseball, but being strong defensively up the middle is not one of them.
  21. Watching Nauquin play likely had a lot to do with Robbie opting out of Cleveland.
  22. I was all "excited" to read of the unexpected thrown out stealing by Zuke, and when I got to it on TiVo I see it was off a pitch out, by 3/4 of an inch. The second was a great throw. That said, I always thought stealing third with a left handed batter was so,what misguided.
  23. I saw Sano at Beloit. He made two errors in one game, one a pop up behind him, that most high school player stick in their pocket, but I would never ever put him back in the OF for a couple reasons. He really isn't going to be a suitable OF'er, and his fielding problems in the IF seem to be concentration related. It's not an athletic inability to play the position. Frankly, he seems a little to impressed with Miguel Sano. The good news: He is young, and hopefully will discover that just hitting a baseball does not a baseball player make. But it does a DH make!
  24. I got some of my best stock tips on TV at 3 AM when I couldn't sleep. And once I get my TV back from the pawn shop, i intend to make a career as a day trader!
  25. to me it's a lack of concentration. I saw him do this in Beloit. Just too lacksidasical.
