    Following is a cut and paste from a Miller extra piece after yesterday's game. Not a big surprise, at least to me. (I) wrote for tomorrow’s paper about Terry Ryan and his difficult decisions coming up, but he said a few other things that are worth considering. Essentially, I asked the Twins’ general manager whether he intends to use this season as a training ground for young players, given the last-place record. He said no, “I don’t believe in that,” and gave a couple of reasons. “I don’t want a guy to get buried up here,” he said, and though he mentioned no names, some observers believe Aaron Hicks’ career might have been different had he not been given a major-league roster spot in 2013, before he had been to Triple-A. “I’ve got to protect a player from himself on occasion,” Ryan said. And there’s another factor that he felt strongly about: Just because the team isn’t winning, doesn’t mean he will allow it to stop trying to win. “I don’t believe in ‘Let’s let him learn up here.’ I don’t like that at all,” Ryan said. “There are 24 other players on this team that want to win baseball games. … If a guy isn’t helping a cause [but keeps playing], the other 24 guys see that. And it’s not right.”

    Mauers recent hitting woes are a moot point, he's a veteran bat, who you often hit 3, and who frankly has had a pretty decent career, and is far more likely to succeed than DanSan or Buck. That part of the decision is a no brainer. That said, I would have hit for Santana because he is what he is, and we know it. I would have let Buxton hit for the experience. This season is WAY past being about winning games, it's about finding things out.

    I was talking to my son in law last night. I wondered aloud, how would it feel to be in the Twins high minors, check the box scores every day, and see that you still cannot crack this MLB team. It's gotta be depressing, and deflating.

    Oh they will keep him, and he will revert again, and get hot again. And Aug 1st we will be told we didn't really have many trade chips, the phone just didn't ring. And somewhere two dogs will run around in circles on a piece of playground equipment, and we will continue to watch, type and complain. It's life in TwinsWorld. And next year they won't know what to do with Polanco.

    If they had used scoring like this when I played softball, I wouldn't have had an error in my entire career. Jeez

    They suffered through Park this long, would they really send him down before Park day? I hope Plouffe is being showcased for scouts.

    I did not look at it, but even so, I will bet anyone here, $20 that we are going to be playing teams with better records than us? Honest to (your favorite deity), I have not peaked!

    Your last paragraph is at the heart of this matter, and so many others regarding this team and its management. To wit: They are headed for 100+ losses, and are being run with the mentality of a close to contention team instead of the patience of a total rebuild team. Their moves make it look like Ryan still believes he can tweak this, and fix it. Here's a tweak idea, and the answer should be enlightening. If you took the Big Three relievers off the Yankees, and put them on the Twins, I I still don't see how they have a winning record. This team is THAT bad!
