  1. So you guys were upset when the team didn't sign Eovaldi, but are absolutely out on Wacha? They are the same pitcher at this point in their careers. Eovaldi is 18 months older, had a QO offer attached, and is guaranteed $36 MM over 2 years. The contract has a vesting/player option for a 3rd year at $20MM if he pitches 300 innings combined in '23 & '24. It is also triggered if he finishes top 5 in the Cy Young voting or finishes top 7 in Cy Young voting and makes the All-Star team in '24. Plus there is limited no-trade and inning incentives that could push the contract to $63 MM over 3 years, AAV $21 MM. I wouldn't sign either of them, but if Wacha can be had for 2/$20 MM (FanGraphs/CrowdSource prediction) I would sign him.
  2. Larnach was slashing .313/.365/.448, .813 OPS, when initially placed on the IL on May 8 with a groin strain. He returned May 22 and was slashing .299/.375/.515, .890 OPS through the end of May. He reported pain in his core area in late June (after trying to play through it, unreported to the medical staff, his bad) after slashing a miserable .127/.191/.238, .429 OPS. Clearly the injury affected him and his performance suffered. The team wanted him to rest and/or have an injection, but he chose to see a specialist and surgery was recommended. He then hurt his wrist while on rehab in St. Paul, thus ending his season.
  3. Crash Davis: “You know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It’s 25 hits. Twenty-five hits in 500 at-bats is 50 points, OK? There’s six months in a season. That’s about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week, just one, a gork, a ground ball — a ground ball with eyes! — you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week and you’re in Yankee Stadium. You still don’t know what I’m talking about, do you?”
  4. Pretty sure it was more about cost control and moving players while they still had value, especially after getting burned signing a reliever to a big contract.
  5. Rogers got 3/$33 MM from SF. Management did not fail, they just did not overpay....
  6. Various reports over the past 24 hours have indicated the Giants raised concerns regarded Correa’s right leg. As a prospect in the Astros organization, a then 19-year-old Correa fractured his right fibula while playing in High-A in June 2014. The injury required surgery and cost him the remainder of that season. Last night, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic wrote about the dilemma and called San Francisco’s concern “pretty obvious” while linking to a 2014 Houston Chronicle story about the fibula fracture. I believe Correa had a hard slide this summer and felt some pain around the metal plate. I don't believe he missed any time, but something might be showing up on x-rays that raises concern.
  7. Here we go again..... ?‍♂️
  8. Arraez is a FA after 2025. I think it would be Martin or Julien.
  9. Not even getting into injuries taking games away from players or not being able to shift the defense, Arraez is not the best option at 2B due to balky knees and hamstring issues. I also don't think a full rebuild is necessary, unless the team starts horribly and stays that way to the All-Star break or trade deadline. Most of your trades could be made then. The corner OF situation needs to be resolved before the season, and I would trade Arraez instead of Polanco, younger and 1 more year of control. I would also stretch Duran out this winter and in spring training, if he fails, move him back to the BP. Also, a losing team doesn't need a closer. I don't think the team is done making moves this winter, as un-inspiring as they may be to the TD posters. Let's see where this ends up before tearing it down.
  10. Flexibility, in general, is important. Just ask an old guy trying to get off the floor after playing with the grand kids.......
  11. Ryan is under control through 2027, the season during which he turns 31. No need to lock him up, the Twins are getting his best years at a cost control rate.
  12. Now there is a novel idea. Let's ask somebody not even in the organization, a player no less, who we are years and millions apart in negotiations with, tell us how to run our team. More than likely the trade talks fell apart because the team no longer wanted to part with Arraez after not signing Correa. Or the Twins may have pivoted to Rogers, Luzardo or Cabrera, who are under team control longer, and the asking price got really big. We, as fans, do not know why the talks stalled, but the talks could also pick up at any time.
  13. This... Last years physical may have showed nothing, but after last season and a few incidents like this, maybe something showed different. Wear and tear happens with mileage....
  14. They signed Vazquez (a better signing than Contreras IMO) and they were tied to both Rodon and Swanson. Which of those contracts did you want them to best?? I don't think either ages well. Spending money just to spend money is foolish.
  15. I think the FO is counting on three of Miranda, Lewis, Lee, Martin, Julien, and Miller to develop and cover 2B, 3B and SS over the next 6-10 years. Until a salary cap is put in place, this is how it will have to be done.
  16. They were bidding against themselves at that point. After the Giants offer, going to $300 MM makes no sense. The Mets knew what the Twins offer was, so they went $315MM. Going to $300 MM still wouldn't get it done, if Boras even called them for an offer. The Mets, being the Mets, would have just beat that offer anyway. Spin it anyway you want, this was a Lose-Lose situation for the Twins.
  17. $28.5 MM/yr is not skimping. And paying a guy for years he won't even be playing, years 11-13, is lunacy. Devers and Machado are going to be real expensive next year. Especially Devers, as he will only be 27 when FA begins.

  19. In light of the recent Correa circus, the Cubs officially announced the signing today.
