  1. I can't, there are no ideas presented, just a long held prejudice that Berrios is gone no matter what and for good measure let's throw in the two most reliable bullpen arms. The Twins do not need to trade anybody at the deadline. This year may be in the toilet, but next year is still out there.
  2. And this is the reason you are not a baseball executive.....
  3. Not a big fan of giving Berrios a contract similar to Wheeler's, but their career stats and rates are very similar. And as far as length of contract, he'll be a year younger than Wheeler was when he signed, and Berrios has been injury free as a major leaguer.
  4. My lip reading skills may need help, but Donaldson appears to ask Arraez what he was looking at. Similar to what you ask a 9 year old playing Cal Ripken level who sees his younger sibling eating ice cream and would rather be doing that than standing at second base waiting for the play to start. These guys heads need to be in the game at all times, case in point the Mets yesterday arguing about a fair ball call while 3 runs scored. There have been many other cases of MLB players looking lost or not ready to make a play this season. There are more aspects to this game than just hitting. Lost season or not, I will side with the veteran here.
  5. I think Rojas is gonna be a few $$$ lighter and might be able to stay home for a few days
  6. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/twins-reportedly-disinclined-to-trade-players-controllable-beyond-2021.html
  7. The 16 and 36 were the same season (2018), he was traded from Toronto to Cleveland, but yes he had two years of injury issues, 2017 & 2018, before bouncing back nicely in Atlanta.
  8. MLB's CBA expires after this season, which may be why the Twins are trying to lock Buxton up now. There could be a hard salary cap, there could be non-guaranteed contracts (like most other professional sports), there could be mass restructuring of service time, the arbitration process, revenue sharing, TV dollars, etc... The team is doing their due diligence and I am sure Buxton's agent is doing his. I hope it works out that he can stay here long term, but there is nothing I can do about it and speculating about it is a waste of time.
  9. There it is, the inevitable implosion....
  10. 8 k's for Larnach the last two days. Ouch.
  11. Polanco again comes through!!
  12. How do the wheels fall off that quickly. Berrios was cruising, with a pitch count to get into the 7th or 8th, now his day is probably over after 5.
  13. How is Donaldson not earning his playing time? Of qualified 3B, he has the 5th highest OPS, 3rd highest ISO, 3rd best AB/HR, 3rd best BB/K, 2nd BB% and 7th best SO%. I think his numbers have earned him his playing time.
  14. Donaldson may or may not be tradeable because of his contract and injury concerns, but I would wait until the off-season to look into trading him. He is currently sidelined with a nagging injury and that will be fresh on teams minds when discussing returns. What I would look into doing is something like this; Trade Simmons, he is a plus defender and should bring a decent prospect. An infield of Kirilloff, Arraez, Polanco and Donaldson would be in place for the rest of the year. IF Miranda continues his hot AAA start, bring him up to be the utility guy, he has played all infield positions in the minors this year. Keep Gordon up as another utility guy, he has played passable defense at 2B & CF. A Cruz trade or Sano trade/release are subjects for another topic.
  15. I don't think he is going anywhere. His contract is one factor, injury concerns are another, plus I don't know how long he will actually stay at 3B. Also, who plays 3B for the Twins not only this year but going forward? Arraez has not looked good there. Same with Sano, though the team may be willing to suffer with him there for the rest of the season. Jose Miranda is at AA and has played as many games at SS and 2B as he has at 3B and Baseball Savant projects him as a 2B. Donaldson has been playing well of late and has taken on somewhat of a leadership role according to mlb.com; https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-hit-3-home-runs-in-win-over-indians. Granted, he will probably be an overpaid DH for at least one year of this contract, but I think he is the teams best option at 3B going forward and won't be traded.
  16. This..... the Twins likely need to go at least 10-4
  17. I guess when I put Cruz's name out there as a potential trade I assume he wants to go to a team in contention. Maybe he is happy here and looking forward to testing FA again next winter.
  18. Agree with sentiment on Celestino. Return him to St. Paul. Put Gordon out in CF everyday and, even though I am not a fan, bring the Turtle back.
  19. Simmons and Cruz are the most likely to be traded. Pineda, depending on how he throws once he comes back from injury, could also draw some interest. Sano has hit better in June, and if he keeps it until the deadline could bring a decent prospect from the right team. I would keep Rogers, bad inherited runner numbers and all, as he is probably the best option out there right now. Once everyone returns from injury the line-up could look something like this; C - Jeffers; 1B - Kirilloff; 2B - Arraez; 3B - Donaldson (not going anywhere despite what the posters on here wish); SS - Polanco; LF - Larnach; CF - Buxton; RF - Kepler; DH - Garver. The bench could be Gordon, Refsnyder, Astudillo and Rortvedt or maybe one of Riddle, Rooker, or Garlick, or one of the pieces brought in via one of the trades. Beyond Berrios, Maeda and Rogers I have no idea what the rotation and bullpen could look like after the deadline.
