    So let me get this right. No fire sale needed but you want to get rid of Pineda, Happ, Colome, Robles, Simmons and Donaldson? On top of already trading Cruz. That's 2/5 of the rotation, 1/4 of the BP, and the left side of the infield. Whether the players are effective or not, that is a lot of holes to fill. I am all about improving the team and getting return on expiring contracts, but that looks, sounds and smells like a fire sale.

    How about something outside the box, maybe 3/$66M with performance incentives to trigger each successive year. They just have to agree on the number of years. And maybe after year 5 there could be an opt-out so he can try FA again at age 34. He gets paid handsomely and if he manages to stay healthy and/or perform on the field gets long-term security ($$$). Don't know if the MLBPA would go for a deal like this but I think it could work well for both sides.

    I watched a kid (when I say kid, I mean 23-24 yrs old) at the game Saturday night make a $5 bet with all his buddies Sano would K, kid won like $50!!

    Have you seen Celestino play? Definitely needs more time in AAA. Gordon is the utility guy and played yesterday, and Astudillo is a better fit on the bench.

    We as fans can say the FO needs to step up and sign players, but it actually depends on the player. Berrios has stated he wants to test the FA market to see what he's worth, not the FO fault he won't sign. Keep him and see what the market bears out, or trade him and do the same. Buxton is a totally different case because of the injuries. For the most part they have been flukes, never really the same injury. So things should even out, right? Its a real crap shoot. All indications are pointing to him also testing the market also.

    C'mon guys, Cruz was a luxury that a team not going to make the play offs can not afford. This team needs to be able to play the prospects to see where they are in their development and if they fit long term, and some days that means they DH. According to the experts, the prospects received for Cruz were a very good return for a 41 yr old bat only player, but only time will tell. By the way guys, including his 3 games with Tampa, he is slashing .224/.339/.717 with 3 HRs in July (he's hit 2 HRs for Tampa). Oh yeah, to be that guy, he and Rooker both went 2-12 this weekend.
