  1. I think I need some more success at the upper levels before I'd rank him this high. But hopefully the Twins push him a bit and he continues to improve.
  2. One of my favorite guys. Really hope he has a big year for us.
  3. It's always too early to give up on a prospect. If you remember, we had a young prospect back in the day that was tearing up the lower minor leagues and even had a decent half season at AA. But when he played the next year at AA he missed a large chunk of time and hit .237/.277/.396. He had his pop but his BB/K numbers went to hell. The next year, the 23 year old started in AAA but he was even worse - .242/.280/.379. A lot of posters had given up on him. But Eddie Rosario turned out ok.
  4. I really like Rortvedt. He was extremely young for his league and position. In fact, he was the youngest catcher in A+ ball last year with that many at-bats. The Twins have been pushing him a lot since they drafted him. He could be a 21 year old catcher in AA.
  5. Yeah, it seems strange that we aren't willing to pay for Grandal but we'd then be willing to get rid of Kiriloff for Realmuto. That's a huge loss and I think the FO probably values Kiriloff very highly since he's an obvious replacement for one of our OFers who gets too expensive.
  6. The other obvious question is, if the Twins are willing to move Kiriloff, is Realmuto the best target for him? Could we get a potential better starter instead to pare with Berrios? But this still requires the FO going all-in and signing Machado.
  7. I'd do this only if the Twins were going all-in. Trading for Realmuto by itself seems like a half-step. But if the Twins were going to sign Machado as well, then yes, do it.
  8. The character questions/concerns about Machado are BS. I'd love to have this guy on the team. I think he'd take pressure off of our younger guys. I think he and Cruz would help Sano and Buxton reach their ceilings. I think signing him tells the team that the FO and owners are backing this group of players. The last few years our highest paid player was Mauer. Enough said.
  9. He is in the hall. He just doesn't have a plaque. Huge difference. The museum tells the story of baseball and it tells that story with exhibits that include Bonds and Rose and Shoeless Joe. It includes the bash brothers. They just aren't honored in the plaque room. I think this years class was pretty good but Rivera getting 100% was stupid.
  10. If the Twins had good owners, we'd be on Machado. No doubt. He's such a perfect fit here it hurts. But we don't have good owners so it really comes down to "could." Yeah, we could be if we had good owners. We don't have good owners so until they actually do something like this, we should expect them not too.
  11. Have you seen his home/away splits?
  12. He's perfect in every way for this team. I'm boggled that the FO didn't push ownership to go at him. If we could get him on an 8 year deal, we should.
  13. It's only b/c our ownership has been able to make the fanbase accept that those sort of additions aren't possible for the low payroll scrappy Twins. We have the payroll to do so. We just won't. And that blame is completely on the Pohlads. They are horrible owners.
  14. Man, the Twins could add Machado and still have a payroll lower than last year.
  15. So by 2022 Sano and Rosario will be gone as free agents. I'm not sure that would be true but ... C- Someone not in our system 1B - Kepler 2b - Polanco SS - Lewis 3B - Rece Hinds (Twins first round pick in 2019 who will work out perfectly) LF - Kiriloff CF - Buxton RF - Larnich DH - Rooker Realistically, I think the new FO is really building around that Lewis/Kiriloff nucleus and might make more moves to help them than they have the Buxton/Sano group so we could see some big trades in that time or maybe even real FA dollars spent. And the Twins have some high-upside minor league talent in A+ and below that could break out huge for the team this year.
  16. There are a lot of things I worry about for this team next year but Eddie Rosario is not one of them. He's going to put up something close to .290/.325/.480 115 OPS+. And he's a pretty good reason we shouldn't overly worry about WAR. Rosario had essentially the same season twice in a row but defensive marks gave him plenty of added value last year. That also just happens to be because Buxton wasn't in center.
  17. We needed a DH and we got one of the best bats available. I'm sure we'll still sign a pitcher or two but the rotation is probably set - Berrios, Gibson, Pineda, Odorizzi and Mejia are probably our starting rotation in April. The pen will get some additions.
  18. Cruz was my #2 pick for this team (after Machado) and really glad we got him. He's an absolutely perfect fit both for the lineup and for the locker room. His RH power should play up at TF (he's crushed the ball at TF, with a career .667 slg, second best park for him of any park he's played 10 games or more in).
  19. I like Duran but really he's a long way away. This year will be good for us all getting a handle on him. The change from coming to our org could be many things but it's a good sign that he was able to control the walks. He looks like a guy who could be rushed a bit. I would assume he starts in Cedar Rapids but it would be nice if they moved him straight to A+.
  20. It's not over. We still have the minor league portion!
  21. I'd bet that Jay is picked by someone. Not sure about Reed. He has an Anthony Slama feel to him. No one took him last year either.
  22. Span was probably the last high reward trade.
  23. Hey, if you've paid attention to the last 25 years of this team and still think the Pohlad family is a good thing .... well, you'd be just wrong. Our owners are horrible. As for the trades, the 2017 returns look awful and the Pressly/Escobar trades look pretty good, it's too early to tell of course. As for building up the minors, eh. That is a good thing, of course, but it's not nearly as strong as it was four five years ago and this FO hasn't shown it knows how to build around a strong core of prospects in the first place. Is the plan to punt on the Sano/Buxton/Berrios/Kepler/Rosario/Polanco group? That seems like the plan unless the players force the issue. The FO also traded away draft picks for payroll relief and 2m in international money for middling prospects (see first paragraph) so, while the 2017 draft looks pretty good, the 2018 draft wasn't nearly as good as it could've/should've been. Lastly, yes, I do think the FO should have had the power to not hire Molitor. If the FO can clear out players on the last year of their contract while contending for a playoff spot, they can move off a manager in the same situation. It was clear that the team was winning despite Molly in 2017 and he was horrible at dealing with young players, especially the pitchers. If the owners forced the FO to rehire him then see first paragraph.
  24. I think the anger I have over this is that free agency is usually not that worth wile. You might occasionally hit with a guy like Santana in 2017 or Hughes' first season with us but usually we're just moving pieces around while still relying on the home grown product to present the bulk of the work. That's how it's almost always been for the Twins and it looks like that is how it'll remain. But this year is the one year that the Twins actually had enormous payroll flexibility and a great number of potential difference makers were on the market. That doesn't really happen every year. Last year the biggest position player contract went to Eric Hosmer. And the Twins seem set to not use this perfect storm of opportunity in a way that will help the team not only next year but also in 2020 and beyond.
