  1. Yep. Very slim. And the injuries at the position are making it horrible. Anyone seeing how some Dallas and Buffalo fans want different QBs? Ugh.
  2. I don't think Dobbs is a great QB but he's better than the four interceptions showed last week. He's allowed to struggle, that's why he's a journeyman. But the NFL is full of journeymen right now at the QB position. By adjusted QB rating (take it for what it's worth), he's been better than Mayfield, Burrow, Wilson, and Sam Howell. Frankly, right now, I think there are only ten or eleven (healthy) good QBs in the league. All the rest are varying levels of competence, mostly depending on the system. It doesn't make sense to make a change while we have a playoff spot. If he continues to struggle, the seat gets warmer. But Hall or Mannion or whomever isn't going to be better. What we have to hope for is improved play calling from KOC (which I think could happen) that plays to Dobbs strengths, including letting the o-line run block a bit.
  3. I'm ok with teams being able to move up. Tanking in baseball and basketball was (is) a huge problem that made the sport less fun for the fans. Give credit to the NFL, those teams rarely tank. But we had years where some teams were tanking the season from day 1. Anything to reduce that is good, in my opinion.
  4. With those two picks, we should get some solid choices. Seems like it's a lot of power bats who profile as 1B/DH/corner OF. Since these drafts are such crapshoots, I just want as many picks as possible. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/mlb-draft-prospects-2024-top-players-ranked-kurtz-caglianone/dbb84501a58e4bd6211f24cb https://www.mlb.com/news/top-draft-pick-predictions-for-2024-draft
  5. It's not a horrible comp but I think Verdugo has more value. The age difference is big but Kepler has also been very streaky and more injury prone.
  6. What's going on with Ohio State? Why are all these guys leaving?
  7. Apparently it's "only" a high ankle sprain. I thought it was going to be much, much worse. He'll still probably miss a game or two but the Jags got really lucky.
  8. Yeah, right now, SF and Detroit look great. But things change so much, just week to week. Detroit almost blew the Saints game and nearly lost to the Bears. SF looked lost a month ago. Dallas is pretty good but can't seem to get past Philly. I dunno. I expect KC to make the AFC championship game but maybe this is Baltimore's year. SF/Baltimore would be a good super bowl.
  9. I literally have no idea what to think of this guy but it sounds like he can throw the ball better than Kaliakmanis. https://www.thedailygopher.com/2023/12/3/23985662/new-hampshire-qb-max-brosmer-to-transfer-to-minnesota
  10. I'm ok with rolling with Dobbs. Worst case, we lose every game and get better chances at a QB in the draft. Best case, he's capable like he's shown at times. KOC has to change some calls but with Jefferson back, Dobbs should be better. Also, the NFC is full of flawed teams. We beat SF and they destroyed Philly on the road.
  11. Outside of Philly, no one in the NFC looks great. Lots of incomplete teams. If Cousins hadn't got hurt, we could have made some noise in the playoffs.
  12. Man, wouldn't it be something if the Bears said, "**** it, let's roll with Fields" and then drafted Harrison and traded down to get more picks?
  13. One potential answer is that they didn't see bad press coming from this. This org has been a bit clueless at times on how its words are received. Anyone remember Dave St. Peter blaming fans for not coming to games last year? And when you think you're the smartest guys in the room, you expect everyone just to accept your decisions without question.
  14. Draft-wise, QBs tend to move up a lot between the end of the season and the actual draft. One of the first mocks last year had Richardson being available for the Vikings. That didn't work out. Williams, Maye, Daniels, Nix, Penix, McCarthy are the six QBs I've seen that have a 1st round grade from various sources. Not sure where the Vikings will draft but I assume they'll make the playoffs so late teens, early 20s. One will probably slip that far but maybe not two. This report says the Vikings like McCarthy from his connections with Harbaugh/Kwesi. Depending on how the college playoffs go, I'm not sure McCarthy won't move up a lot.
  15. On the QB issue, some of it (maybe a lot of it) is probably on coaching. Jalen Hurts is awesome but what if he was in Carolina? He's not even top 10 in yards or rating. But he has an offense that works to his strengths. Is Justin Fields capable with good coaching? Somehow, Pitt can win with Kenny Pickett but Mac Jones is a complete failure in NE. Statistically, Baker Mayfield and Trevor Lawrence are pretty similar, with Mayfield throwing a lot more touchdowns. https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/table/passing/sort/adjQBR/dir/desc Dobbs isn't a traditional pocket passer but KOC wants him to be. But it we had a playbook that was better suited to a running QB? And an o-line developed to do that? Is Dobbs better?
  16. This feels like a loss on the coaching staff more than on the players. Obviously, we can't turn it over 4 times but we have a backup QB who isn't fully up to date on our system and it just felt like we haven't done enough for his strengths or simplified the game. Defense has been ****ing amazing the last few weeks.
  17. Ugh. That wasn't great but we should hold out here.
  18. Mettales (sp) is amazing
  19. 1) o line is struggling, making Dobbs make decisions fast. 2) he's a backup, so that makes him worse 3) KOC ain't calling a great game. No dedication to the run at all but not adapting to the bears defense (at least not yet) I will say that Dobbs has been bad but his receivers haven't helped him and the line is horrible
  20. Of tackle more than once a half ....
  21. KOC not doing a great job with play calling or adapting to what's working.
  22. This just might be Philly's year. Darn it.
  23. We'll see how the season plays out. My guess is the Vikings will draft a QB they think is the future but might not be ready to start from the get-go. (this article suggests that potentially six QBs could go in the first round). If Cousins would resign on a one year deal so the drafted QB would learn from him, the Vikings would probably do that in a heartbeat. But if Cousins wants multiple years (and he does) and another team would give that to him (I'm sure someone will), it becomes a trickier problem. In that case, I could see them trying to find a bridge QB, whether that's Dobbs or someone else, and then using some of the rest of the savings on other parts of the roster. But if this team continues to play well, make the playoffs, etc, then Dobbs would be off the table as well because someone is going to give him multiple years. In that case, the bridge QB might be a step down from Dobbs or they just go with the rookie from day one. On the other hand, if they don't like any QBs in this draft (or they are taken before they can pick one), then multiple years to Kirk or Dobbs because likely.
  24. I don't think they have much in the way of options. It does seem like KOC has to come up with a way to deal with blitzes from the outside. Two weeks in a row, Dobbs has struggled against that as the pocket collapses and he can't run. Don't know what the answer is (except be up by more points). But we aren't going to find a better QB than Dobbs at this point. And, realistically, so many things went wrong for us last night and we still should have won the game. We're still (likely) a playoff team.
