1. I think CMB nailed it. Add in that Boras is his agent and I think the Twins go another route. Apparently, the Twins are big on Stewart who has an amazing ceiling (arguable the highest in the draft) and has all the intangibles (competitive, athletic as hell, good character) you'd want.
2. Nice article. Gotta think Gibson has to come up now and replace Hernandez.
3. I think we've probably already reached our high point of the season and it'll be a tough slog for a bit. It'll be more interesting to see how Hicks, Arcia and Gibson play at this level. I think Ryan will trade Morneau and Willingham at the deadline and maybe Burton, too, to continue to build up a rotation/farm system. As for other subjects in this thread. I think the Twins are headed for another top 5 pick in the draft and I don't think they'll abandon BPA and that's probably, longterm, a good thing. Say what you will about Johnson but he's drafts have at least been bold. On Gardy: I think he sticks around for a few more years and eventually is replaced by Dougie Baseball.
4. Breaking that down a bit farther, Twins have hit 15 HR at TF while opponents have hit 17. I'm not sure what to make of it. I think Willingham is slumping but should still hit 20+. Not sure what to make of Plouffe. Parm's been replaced by Arcia who does have some power but might need a season or two to show it constantly at the ML level. TF doesn't help Morny (or LH power in general) - I'd still love to see him hitting in Texas or in NY. We're probably not going to be a high power offense until our RH power hitters get up here.
5. So, no more discussions of ESPN articles. Got it.
6. I don' have insider but those that do can read Olney's take on the Twins minor leaguers. Minnesota Twins set up for promising future - MLB - ESPN
7. Can't see it.
8. Yeah, I looked at all BA ranked Twins prospects in the Ryan era (1996 - ) and, while I don't remember the complete numbers it was a pretty high return to being solid regular or better and only a few (2 in 10) washed out completely.
9. True, but it wasn't just 87 or 91 that people my age cared about. Puck was on some gawd awful Twins teams and people still loved him. And as good as Mauer is, I'm not sure he's as good as Puck, although comparing a catcher and center fielder is difficult.
10. I've always liked Reusse. First and foremost, it's obvious he actually loves baseball. And he also has important connections inside the Twins so when he writes an article that player X is an up and comer to watch or player Y should shape up, it's probably someone in the Twins that wants that message out there. And I also like how worked up he gets some people.
11. Yeah, I saw that, too. Nice to see. We have so many stud prospects that a few of them might be flying under the radar.
12. Might be the age of the poster. I grew up in the 80s and absolutely loved Puckett. I like Mauer and think he's a HOF and a true superstar. At his best, he could be the best player in baseball (like 09). But Puck was Puck. He had his amazing seasons, seemed like the greatest guy in the world (to me) and came up so big in the post season. He's still easily my favorite pro athlete and it's not really close.
13. JD Sussman is having his prospect chat at fangraphs. Nice things to say about the Twins so far:
1:13
Comment From Scrapper Any organization that is having a particularly good run, prospect-wise, during the first 6 weeks of the minor league seasons? 14. When I was in college, I wrote my senior paper on the differences between the Johnson, Nixon and Clinton impeachments. One thing that bothered me was, at the beginning of Watergate, most Americans didn't know what it was and later, most Americans still didn't care. It was a constant GOP talking point against the Post. So I'm not sure arguing that people don't know/don't care about something doesn't mean it shouldn't be a real issue. Frankly, it shouldn't even be part of the discussion. That said, Benghazi is more an effort to try and prevent Hilary Clinton to run than anything else. AP and IRS might be more.
15. On Lannan. I might be wrong on this but I don't know if the Twins really had a chance for him. We could have traded for him but he was due close to 5m this year which is why the Nats released him. So wouldn't he have been a waiver claim and NL teams would have had the first crack at him before any AL teams? I might be wrong but that's what I thought happened to him.
16. http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/8/4/6/114846.gif?v=1 Trying to learn how to paste a gif, my apologies for it not being baseball related.
17. Wow, that would be great. Cubs grab Appel. Rockies remain in love with Bryant and we get Gray. I'd be really ok with that.
18. Thanks. I wonder if he'd sign in we take him at 43.
19. Where did Ryan Boldt go in his mock?
20. We'll know more as the season progresses but a team like the Reds could use a corner OF bat. Rangers too. Pittsburgh is getting some nice production out of historically not so great guys. Hopefully, Ryan can find/get some sort of bidding war for Willingham/Morneau (if/when he trades them). I'm not sure what the return would be but I think the minimum would have to be something like the Cubs got for Dempster last year - 1 top 100 prospect and another strong A ball arm.
21. I think the Obama administration has taken the war on terror excuse and gone farther with it than even Bush did. The NDAA is terrifying. Obama is absolutely horrible on civil rights.
22. Revere's was better but I enjoyed Hicks' more.
