  1. I don't think he was ever a realistic possibility for the Twins. Frankly, I'm not sure Jackson or Dempster were either.
  2. That's the first set of numbers. I probably should have made that easier to read.
  3. Who are Shore and Snelton?
  4. Well I certainly wouldn't mind if the Twins took someone like Ziomak in the 2nd round. Thanks for posting that.
  5. Looking at Hendriks AAA stats a bit I think we might be short sheeting him. (Is that a phrase?). He's posting a sub 3.00 fip, if you trust that. He's walked one batter in 22ip. His Babip is insanely high which might be b/c of the AAA infield. He's getting a lot of ground balls. And he is still only 24. I might have been wrong to suggest sitting him in AAA longer. I'd like to see him get starts before Devries, Walters and Hernandez. It's probably better to let him start than Deduno but Deduno is so much fun to watch ....
  6. Ignoring Puck, it really isn't surprising. I think we all knew the top of the order could be an issue. But Hicks is still an exciting long term answer. He just needs time.
  7. I think the hope is something like this: Gibson Meyer Worley May Manaea Barring injuries, I think Meyer/Gibson top of the rotation will be pretty good. I know they could still flame out or under perform but I think both will be pretty good for us. Obviously, Worley will still be under team control in 2016 so he should have a spot. I think we're giving up too fast on May. He's in AA and the Twins will give him all the time to fix his control. It'll take some time but it he does, he should be a solid rotation arm that eats a lot of innings. I think we take Manaea at #4. He finishes this year at A+, 2014 at AA and then gets his feet wet in 2015 and starts the season with us in 2016. Berrios could fly through the system though and be part of this, too.
  8. I actually think Hernandez best role would be in the pen. LOOGY and occasional long man but I can see why the Twins might want him to keep starting a bit longer in AAA just to see what he has or if he can improve against righties. But he shouldn't be blocking Gibson at this point. As for Hendriks, I still think he can be a good ML backend starter but he's young. Let him get it straightened out at AAA (is he working on a new pitch?) before calling him up.
  9. I'll update this again. I think I got all the pitchers that reasonably came up in discussions. We got: Kevin Correia 2y/10m. 6 Starts, 3-2, 2.83 era, 143 ERA+, 41ip, 1.137 whip Mike Pelfrey - 1y/4m. 6 starts, 3-3, 6.35 era, 64 ERA+, 28 ip, 1.694 whip Fans suggested: Joe Blanton - Angels - 2y/15m + 3rd option/1m buyout. 7 starts, 0-6, 5.66 era, 67 ERA+, 1.79 whip, 41ip. Joe Saunders - Seattle - 1y/6.5m + option. 7 starts, 2-4, 6.15 era, 61 ERA+, 15bb/14so on season, 41ip Francisco Liriano - Pitt - 1y/1m + 8m option. 5 MiLB starts. Scott Baker - Cubs - 1y/5.5m. 60day DL Carlos Villanueva - Cubs - 2y/10m - 7 starts, 1-2, 3.02 era, 132 ERA+, 1.00whip, 47 ip Edwin Jackson - Cubs - 4y/52m. 7 starts, 0-5, 6.39 era, 62 ERA+, 1.632 whip, 38ip Ryan Dempster - Red Sox -2y/26.5m. 7 starts, 2-3, 2.93 era 147 ERA+, 43 ip, 1.093 whip Brandon McCarthy - DBacks - 2y/15.5m. 7 starts, 0-3, 6.75 era, 60 ERA+, 40 ip, 1.675 whip Shaun Marcum - Mets - 1y/4m. 2 starts, 0-2, 10 ip, 7.20 era, 53 ERA+, 2.100 whip. Started season on DL. Dan Haren - Nats - 1y/13m. 6 starts, 3-3, 5.01 era, 76 ERA+, 32.1ip, 1.454 whip. John Lannan - Philly - waiver claim. 3 starts, 0-1, 6.14 ERA (68 ERA+), 14.2 IP , 4.3 K/9. Back on DL. Brett Myers - Cle - 1y/7m. 3 starts, 0-3, 8.02 era, 49 ERA+, 21 ip, 1.594 whip. Back on DL.
  10. I get what you're saying but I disagree that he's had a bunch of bad starts. He's made 7 starts. One was horrible (May 3) and he got tagged a bit in another (April 11). His other 5 have been pretty good. He got squeezed a bit in one, twice as many walks called in that start then in any other, but he didn't give up many hits to one of the better AAA teams. He's on a innings limit this year and the Twins aren't going to play .500 all year (sadly). He'll likely get touched up when he comes up here but it's time for him to do it up here and he can't be worse than Hernandez. If he's on a 130 inning limit, he probably only has about 15 starts left in him this year. He's made 30 career starts at AAA. He doesn't need anymore.
  11. There's really no economic reason to keep him down any longer so I don't see why he wouldn't be the first guy called up. De Vries was nice for us last year but he's not in Gibson's class.
  12. It happens very rarely, esp at the top of the draft board. Usually the players that didn't sign had already made it clear before the draft that they didn't want to go (Cole) or the team thought the player would sign for less (Hochever). With the new draft rules, players, teams and agents know the value and it would be discussed before hand. If his agent said, yea, he'll sign for slot and then, after the draft, asked for 2m more, the agent would lose his credibility which, long term, would really hurt him. If his agent says that if he doesn't get 2m or more, he's playing football, the teams that have to get cautious are the teams drafting 8 (I think) or later. Unless he falls out of the top of the draft, I don't think it'll be much of a problem signing him.
  13. I'm not sure that's completely true. In 2010, we added salary and traded away prospects in win-now trades. They added some good vets in Pavano, Thome and Hudson. Would we look back at 2010 differently if Liriano hadn't blown a 3 run lead or Hardy took a 94mph fastball after CC loaded the bases? Or if Morneau/Nathan had stayed healthy? That 2010 team was built to win. It didn't but that doesn't mean it couldn't have.
  14. I honestly haven't been keeping up to date on the GA outfielders. I'd been so convinced the Twins wouldn't go there but now I'm starting to wonder. The area scout we have is really good and the Twins have shown that they want BPA over need so if they think Frazier (or someone else) is the guy, they'll grab him and worry about pitching later.
  15. The Twins built around a core of pretty good players (besides the M&Ms, Santana, Kubel, Baker, Hunter and Cuddyer were all extended at least one FA year) and made the playoffs several times. It was a great idea and I think they got snake bit a little in health - esp Morneau. But it was absolutely the right thing to do and it looks like the next group of players - Hicks, Arcia, Gibson etc - will also be a group to build around.
  16. Scout.com: MLB Mock Draft v1.0 Scout.com's first mock. Has Twins taking Frazier and Stanek and Manaea falling pretty far. I think Frazier is supposed to be the high power GA outfielder and Meadows is the all around player? I think.
  17. Well, keep in mind that Bryant will finish this year at, most likely, A+. Next year he'll be in AA and hopefully he moves fast but he might not be ready until 2015. He's having a great year but he's not playing in the SEC either (Zunino is struggling at AAA for Seattle). I don't think he's going from college to the majors with only 300 milb PAs.
  18. Yeah, I don't really like the idea of abandoning BPA either. One way it could work would be if the Twins could land an arm like Florida's Whitson who is out for the season with an injury but was supposed to be a top 10 talent coming into the draft. Jeremy thinks he'll stay in college. The Twins would have to pick him in a later round and hope that they could save enough money to take a risk on a injured player. I'm not sure I love that idea. The other way would be if there were tough HS players to sign (McCullers last year) but that doesn't seem like Johnson's MO. I guess I still think the Twins take Manaea unless Houston does something strange for us.
  19. What about Stanek or Shipley?
  20. I read it the same way too.
  21. Baseball HOF has a bunch of scouting reports here. Here's a link for a Mauer report - http://scouts.baseballhall.org/media/reports/05545.jpg Pretty neat stuff, if you like scouting at all.
  22. Yeah, I think the Astos are the wild card but from what I've read, it seems like they'll grab Gray. Bumer.
  23. In fairness, TF and other parks affect era/runs scored etc. By ERA+, our pitchers are combing for a 103 ERA+, which is 8th and just above league avg. Our hitters are putting up a 89 OPS+ and third worst in the AL (ahead of Tor and the White Sox). It's too early to over react. The offense will get better but our pitching will probably go south.
