  1. Neither is playing well. Why should they promote them for 3 days? Arcia is going to be promoted at some point this year - after they trade Willingham or in Sept - so 3 days here isn't a big deal. Complaining about this move seems to me just an example of complaining just to be contradictory.
  2. Blaming Dusty isn't fair and accurate. The Twins were one of the teams that actually mentioned being concerned about Prior's pitching mechanics but most media played that off as the Twins trying to find a BS excuse to draft the local boy.
  3. I think we're all getting ahead of ourselves here. He'll get a couple starts in RF and be sent back down. Glad to see him get the call up - sends a good message to him but also to Benson.
  4. Hawk sucks but Kenney's arguments weren't all that sound either. The Rays have done a great job with sabermetrics but drafting at the top of the draft for a decade sure helped. Red Sox had massive payroll (and roid) advantages. He ignored the success of teams (like the Twins and Giants) who tend to be considered anti-sabermetric. At this point, I'm sorta tired of the arguments. No team ignores advanced stats and no team doesn't think scouting isn't important. Both sides have very annoying personalities arguing for them who often use straw men or take other peoples comments out of context to make a point.
  5. The Visitors Dugout: Alex Meyer | Mayflies & Big Flies Looks like a Washington blog is interviewing opponents. Nothing earth shattering in there but a nice little read.
  6. You're jumping the gun but I think he'll be up at the break. I think the Twins will trade Morneau and/or Willingham, opening up a spot for him. I also wonder if Arcia might have value as a trade chip himself to an org that needs hitters but has pitching to spare (if such an org exists).
  7. Dodgers' Zack Greinke fractures collarbone in fracas at Petco Park | MLB.com: News Quinten showing a little roid rage, perhaps?
  8. Some of those threads got pretty long. I'd vote to start new ones, myself.
  9. That's actually one of the things I like about Ryan, he's crossed the color line to compare players, fairly often.
  10. It's a smart, short term move. I'd be ok with it.
  11. Cubs' Soler ejected in Daytona loss | MiLB.com News | The Official Site of Minor League Baseball Incredibly stupid. He'll get a pretty big suspension I imagine but probably not as big as Delmon Young's suspension.
  12. Mayo has him #8 on his list that wasn't updated that recently. He could sign for, say, #5 money, the Twins would save a million for their 2nd round pick. I'm not sure the Twins will do that, though. And Anderson could keep pitching himself up the lists and be a slot signing.
  13. In this draft, that's how it'll probably shake out.
  14. Yes, you have correctly read that sentence and still managed to misunderstand everyone's point.
  15. They big signing was a 16 yr old short stop, Amaurys Minier. They also signed an Australian pitcher. I believe they used all of their pool.
  16. Nobody is claiming a higher standard for pitchers. They are just arguing that it might be possible that a position player to be the better player than any available pitchers at #4.
  17. International Bonus Pools For 2013-14 - BaseballAmerica.com Just over 3.9m to sign international talent next year. This year we had a 2.9m pool but the baseball agreement gives more money to bad teams to spend in the international market. So, yay, I guess. Twins have been pretty good in the international signings the last few years so hopefully we can sign another Sano type.
  18. Who has been looking to not draft a pitcher? I think everybody hopes the Twins get a pitcher and in this draft, that is very likely. Some people are, smartly, saying that the Twins shouldn't reach just to get a pitcher or ignore a greater talent just b/c that player isn't a pitcher. That isn't the same as trying to not draft a pitcher.
  19. People compare them all the time. Cripes, every ML team spending millions on the draft is doing just that.
  20. Must C | Must C Call: Zobrist strikes out looking - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia It seems that the umps new position (over the catcher's shoulder) has really screwed up the outside strike zone. Oh well, Nathan gets his 300th save
  21. At #4, we really have to hope that Astros take one of the GA OFers and save money. That might make some sense for them since the talent in their minors is in low ball, too. With Correa and, say, Meadows they have a pretty nice up the middle future and added talent with guys like McCullers and others they get by going over slot later. There's no way the Cubs pass on Appel. Rockies at #3 are really similar to the Twins. The strength of their system is hitters, including a good 3B and SS prospect to go along with two pretty good OF prospects (Dahl and Parker). It's hard to see (right now) a scenario where the top two pitchers (Appel and Gray) are on the board we when pick at #4. So if those three are gone, the Twins could take Kris Bryant, the college bat from San Diego. Some question if he can stick at third but his bat should play anywhere and his RH power would look good at TF. They could realistically take the 3rd best pitcher, whoever that turns out to be - Manaea, Anderson, HS arm ....
  22. Nice article, Seth. I really like Harrison and I think that, if nothing else, Boyd can become a nice bullpen arm. Good supplemental picks by the Twins.
  23. I don't think there's a problem adding a guy like Harang, so long as they don't give up much to get him. Right now we have Pedro Hernandez starting. Adding Harang for this season won't hurt the future at all. Worley, Pelfrey and Correia were additions that we hope can eat innings but we don't really have that much depth behind them. Gibson will come up but is on a 130 or so inning limit for the year. De Vries and Deduno are on the DL. I don't know if the team can expect a lot of health out of their stated rotation. I'd rather the team give starts to Harang than to Walters.
  24. Re: Montanez. He's another Puerto Rican ball player. Twins seem to have been picking up a lot of players from there the last few years. Anyone know if we do have more PR ball players than other teams?
