  1. I don't see how Berrios will be blocked. Santana is the only person locked into our rotation. The other four spots can and will be changed. I suspect Berrios will be up on May 1.
  2. Depends on the context.
  3. Because it's not completely in context. Yes, his OBP is 6th in that time frame but 25 players are above .400 OBP. His wOBA is 45th and his wRC+ is 52. He's more Nick Castellenos in those situations than Miguel Cabrera.
  4. The problem is, that's not a great number. Over 110 players were better than that last year by OPS or wRC+ or wOBA. And if you compare him only to other #3/4 hitters, it's even worse. All players hit better with men on base.
  5. I don't doubt his ability to hit lefties at all anymore and, worst case, he should be in the lineup against lefties all year. I'm really impressed with his plate discipline against all pitchers and his ability to take a walk is going to help him regardless of who is pitching to him. So it's certainly been fun to see him hit against righties this season. He's not a perfect hitter and he has warts but outside of Sano the Twins probably don't have a perfect hitter. He was available to the Twins for a reason. But he can certainly be a solid player for the next few years. On-base is really, really important and he does that and, as noted, he has enough power to punish opposing teams for mistakes.
  6. Might as well update this now. Through his first 8 games, Blankenhorn has killed the ball - .400/.438/.833 with 6 extra base hits out of 12 hits. His babip is skyhigh but that just might be because he's hitting laser beams. The only real negative if you want to nit-pick is that he's only walked once against 10 strike outs. But again, if you're hitting .400, you don't need to walk. He's played third base 5x, second base once and DH'd 2x. Obviously it's too early for a promotion but I would be very surprised if he spends the entire season in Cedar Rapids. He's going to need to see better pitchers to take more walks because he seems pretty capable of hitting low A pitching stuff.
  7. I don't care much for the DC movies but I don't really hate them. I think they are different takes on what the heroes should be like but since I was never a big fan of DC, I don't really care if they are true to the comics or whatever. Certainly the new Superman is a lot different from the Christopher Reeves Superman but at least DC has kept the character the same in these movies - he's not flipping between stupid, comic relief, brooding, etc like Thor does whenever the writers need him to be that. And Wonder Woman looks amazing.
  8. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he meant different assets.
  9. Yeah, barring an injury, it seems like Greene is separating himself from McKay. We need to figure out the rumors for the 35 and 37 picks now.
  10. I think he was, actually. He's not the Rockies guy but it's not as straight as it is this season. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/70087564/v1200365383/mincws-buxton-leads-off-with-insidethepark-homer
  11. In fairness to Reynolds, he's pretty good at baseball. He's not a great commentator but he knows his ****. I was impressed with how well he knew that this ball was live in real time while the rest of us were trying to figure it out. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/154468994/bizarre-play-at-plate-in-rangers-jays-game/ I figure he probably knows at least as much about breaking down a swing as our Parker.
  12. Honestly, I think he makes a pretty persuasive argument.
  13. I swear, I thought the "Spicer says Hilter didn't use chemical weapons" that was floating around my facebook feed were just onion articles people were sharing. Unreal.
  14. I probably would have let Kepler have a day. I assume this isn't a normal thing. But Escobar over Giminez (with Sano at first) seems smarter.
  15. The lettering on "This November" was just ... so wrong it was perfect. Should be a really fun movie.
  16. Good for #22 in mlb. https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlm45gfllm/22-minnesota-twins/#5d49882c37e2 #1, the Yankees, is worth 3.7 billion.
  17. https://twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/851802392064663554/photo/1 Both catchers are in the game against an opposing lefty. Mauer, Kepler and Escobar get the day off. Santana is in RF. Eventually, they'll probably have to have a big RH bat on that bench for just such an occasion but for now, this is how they're going.
  18. I have no idea what team lets him do that but it'll be fun to watch.
  19. So many options - try and trade Dozier again, move Sano to first and slide Polanco over, trade one of Polanco/Gordon ...
  20. I haven't seen any stats for the area code games but Greene was the MVP, so he did ok. But scouts have seen him at other summer events, not just that one. And, again, I'm not sure it's fair to say he's facing regular old high school kids. He was playing at the Compton urban academy for a while (ala Aaron Hicks) and I would assume that he's playing in an advanced HS pitching league. I mean, I played regular high school football but I sure wasn't playing against Cretin Derham Hall. I assume most top HS players - in most sports - play at that level of competition. Just googled his last game and the opposing pitcher - 16 years old - is already committed to Cal-Northridge, a baseball powerhouse.
  21. If Escobar keeps hitting, Sano to first might happen a bit sooner. But the OF defense looks really good. It's early and it's only one defensive stat - and it might not be the best one - but fangraphs DRS has the Twins 5th in all baseball.
  22. Last year. http://www.baseballamerica.com/area-code-baseball/greene-leads/#mZpXTv7qomElkd4w.97
  23. God, I loved those guys. I remember when Ben Revere came up they had a picture of him diving for a ball with the caption "It's his turn to piss you off." They truly hated losing to the piranhas.
  24. I can't remember if it's in this thread or a ba chat but the idea that Greene is only throwing to little catholic boys is stupid. He's pitching against opponents that are going to major baseball colleges. (Buxton and Trout both faced inferior HS competition as well.) Jonathan Mayo noted that Greene has dominated in the summer showcase circuits, ""I've been going to the Area Code Games forever and I like to tell people the best pitcher I've seen there has been Josh Beckett," the NL scouting director said. "I think Greene went past him."" There are valid reasons to not draft Greene but the caliber of his opponents is not one of them.
  25. Every single player you listed was drafted based on projection. None were drafted b/c of their HS stats. Those are completely meaningless. The issue is if the people doing the projecting think Greene is/will be better than the other guys they are looking at. If he is, they'll probably draft him.
