  1. Much like Brady Aiken and Jacob Nix. Oh, wait.
  2. Man, Gordon is really looking nice with the bat. Hopefully he continues to do this all year. I really like the increase in walks.
  3. One physically alters you while the other helps you recover from ****ing all night. Greenies don't turn journeymen like Dan Naulty into MLers. And greenies were used by everyone while not everyone was using horse steroids.
  4. Sure, we can. But the Twins probably want some certainty to the price. If the Twins plan to give him the entire 1/1 pool they won't be able to save money for other picks. And Greene could sit out a year and go the JUCO route and be drafted net year. He would be able to get insurance in case of an injury that wouldn't pay him nearly as much as the Twins but would give him something (Groome threatened that last year). And the Twins probably don't want to poison the well with him or his advisor. If they say SD will give us 8m (300k more than the Twins slot bonus) the Twins forcing him to take less will make him unhappy. That's why teams and players generally come to terms prior to the draft. That doesn't always happen. The White Sox, for instance, signed all their picks and then started negotiations with Rodon and gave him what they had left. But that might not be the best way to do things - esp since Rodon probably should have been 1/1 and he was a college arm who was ML ready. My guess is that if Greene or his advisor say they don't want the Twins to draft him, the Twins won't. But I don't think Greene will say that.
  5. Interesting read on deadspin - http://deadspin.com/the-next-great-cuban-baseball-prospect-is-officially-a-1794510989 Basically, don't expect the Twins to sign him b/c the teams that are already penalized have no reason to not go for broke.
  6. Sure but did greenies require your competition to alter their bodies to compete? I truly hate the greenies = steroids argument for a number of reasons. And roid use wasn't as uniform as greenies were/are. So maybe Brad Radke was taking some greenies but he wasn't taking horse steroids when he was competing against ARod.
  7. Nice to see Burdi and Melotakis striking out some guys in AA. Hopefully they can get to AAA or the majors this year.
  8. Very cool. Depending on what/who would be able to drop to us at 35, I'd be ok with Smith.
  9. How is Pavin Smith looking so far? Anyone see any scouting reports on him?
  10. AJ Preller, the Padres GM, has almost certainly agreed to pay Greene top pick money. He'll burn a few later picks and give Greene something around 7m, maybe even higher. BA (I think) was reporting that Preller was doing everything he can do get Greene to drop which basically means promising Greene a lot of money.
  11. Yeah, I should have phrased it better. The team certainly loses out when a good player is suspended and they can't use the saved money on something else to replace him but ownership isn't punished. And if it's a bad player, it's a win for the team/owner.
  12. Did anyone see where Trump claimed Korea was part of China? He's really great at this PR stuff. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/04/19/trumps-claim-that-korea-actually-used-to-be-a-part-of-china/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_factchecker-korea-8pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory
  13. Honestly, I don't care about the HOF. What bothered me the most was that the Yankees got a benefit from ARod's suspension - his salary was off the books for that missed season and they came very close to lowering their tax payoff that other teams receive from them. Essentially, the Yankees were financially aided by the suspension while the other teams lost (some) revenue. There should be some sort of penalty to the team or the money should still be paid but go to the MLB player's charity or something. Just not stay in the owner's pocket.
  14. Fun little article at ESPN. The 2014 Angels system was so bad that BP' Jayson Parks (now with the Cubs) said the Twins 11-20 was better than the Angels 1-10. ESPN waited a few years and decided to look. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19195027/shhh-tell-anyone-baseball-changing "The big name there is Max Kepler, who would go on to develop into a top prospect and is now hitting .294/.351/.490 in the middle of Minnesota's lineup. Three others -- Santana, Tonkin and Rogers -- are on the Twins' active roster, and May was an established member of the Twins' pitching staff before undergoing Tommy John surgery this spring. Sixteen of those 20 players are still with the organization, and Romero and Gonsalves have improved their prospect status and are now top-five prospects in the system. ..... As it stands now, the Twins' group probably is slightly more accomplished than the Angels' group, but the Angels got more out of theirs by trading aggressively. The comparison is far from concluded, though. The Twins might still be reaping the benefits of that farm system's depth for years to come."
  15. Again, HS stats mean nothing. I don't know if Greene is a generational talent or if it even matters. He's #1 on pretty much every single draft board that we've seen. Harper and Strasburg were both generational talents and neither were the best picks in their drafts. The nice thing about the #1 pick is that the Twins are very likely to get a very good player so long as they don't over think this.
  16. I think the Twins have tended to draft young - last year we drafted five 17 year olds, IIRC. So, yeah, I'm not really seeing avg age of the system as meaning anything.
  17. There's a lot of issues about PEDs and frankly the thing that bothers me most about MLB's proposal is that the owners are not punished at all. The BS Mitchell report placed the blame for PED use on both the players and the owners but the player loses the money, takes the PR hit and the team doesn't suffer. Hell, the Yankees were openly hoping Arod would get caught to end his contract. And if teams aren't punished, then players will always cheat because if they don't someone else will. Look at all those poor kids from the Dominican. If I was in their shoes, I'd inject everything in the hopes of making a better life for my family. That said, the players stupidly signed onto this agreement and Marte wasn't using the right masking agents this time and was caught.
  18. Well, they way there were playing maybe a rain out is a good thing.
  19. https://twitter.com/MarkBullockNFL/status/854496081060691969/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fdeadspin.com%2Fajax%2Finset%2Fiframe%3Fid%3Dtwitter-854496081060691969%26autosize%3D1
  20. I'm not sure why we are supposed to think that HAROLD REYNOLDS!?!? isn't a good instructor and your constant attacks on him are pretty off putting. Both Reynolds and DeRosa are suggesting the same thing, Reynolds that he's not tracking the ball, DeRosa that his eye level is changing. And maybe the Twins are making a more conscious effort to get him to track the ball, which we saw last night. Although that he's putting his foot in the wrong spot indicates he's still having trouble tracking the ball. It'll be interesting to read what actual steps the hitting coaches had him work on.
  21. Scout.com has a mock draft up. This might be pretty boring - all the mocks have us taking Greene. http://www.scout.com/mlb/scouting/story/1770985-2017-mlb-draft-mock-draft-1-0
  22. Longenhagen usually sounds more pessimistic on prospects than most but he didn't have much bad to say about Greene. I'm having a hard time seeing the Twins pass on him.
  23. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v1299577183/trout-displays-love-for-astros-after-prank-by-orbit Anyone see this? I'm not a huge Astros fan but this was legitimately funny.
  24. It's more extensive but that's a pretty low bar.
  25. I thought the Twins would send him to AAA and let him have one more shot at starting but they took him north. So, that's his role. I agree with Mike that he should be used in a Goosage like manner.
