  1. I'm ok with Cave. He's a 4th OFer. That means he'll get spot starts but it also means he'll hold down a position for a bit while we wait for Larnich/Kiriloff/Rooker to be "ready." He's fine at his role. I would have been ok if the Twins let him go and gave his role to LaMonte Wade instead but having a guy like Cave is a good thing. I would be surprised if he got 300 plate appearances this year.
  2. Vikes traded for a 6th round pick for a G/C Mason Cole from Arizona. Sounds like Cole is better as a guard. Could be a non-disaster starter but won't be a huge fix. Probably a placeholder and ideally a solid back-up.
  3. https://nypost.com/2021/03/23/mlb-finds-new-way-to-catch-cheating-pitchers/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site%20buttons&utm_campaign=site%20buttons Essentially some teams, cough cough Astros, might have been cheating a bit too much with sticky substances to get greater spin rates so MLB is cracking down. Interesting to see if this changes the game much. Apologies if the article has already been shared elsewhere.
  4. In all honesty, when has tanking worked in the NFL? Even at 1-5, with two one point losses to really good teams, we weren't that bad. No way we could end up with a top 3 pick in this draft which is where the top 3 QBs will go. With the cap falling, and how getting rid of Cousins would impact our cap space, I don't think FA was going to fix the o-line and looking at what the really good o-linemen have gotten in FA so far, I think I'm right. Plus, while the o-line is problematic, it wasn't what held us back. Our run defense and inability to pressure the QB was the main problem. A healthy Hunter, Pierce and a few other pieces, this could be a solid defense again.
  5. Yeah, the Twins should be ok at DH. They have a lot of potential thump that can be moved there even if Cruz goes down for a while.
  6. I think some of this doom and gloom is overstated. The biggest issues for the team are (IMHO) 1) pass rush 2) run defense 3) secondary 4) using the offensive tools the correct way Looks like the Vikings are working on the first three. I don't know if the new o-coordinator is going to be as conservative as the old one but the offense, even with the o-line issues, is good and could be a lot better with a better scheme. If we're a 60% run team and run Cook into the ground, nothing probably matters. But if the team lets the passing attack push up the score and let the defense play with a lead, they should be better.
  7. I didn't pay enough attention to roster management this year but Baddoo has always been a huge prospect for me. I was really sad to hear him be unprotected. Here's a nice article on him from yahoo. https://sports.yahoo.com/sizzling-akil-baddoo-creating-pleasant-171800269.html
  8. I'm a little surprised. I thought the young guys really improved as the season wore on. Let them develop.
  9. I don't necessarily disagree with this but this is basically what Kepler was - a 2 WAR player - when he's hitting at a 95 OPS+ clip. Right now, I think we have enough options where we can say that's not good enough and move on because, as a system, our corner OF floor is very high. Larnich, Rooker, Cave can all probably combine in some fashion to produce more than 2 WAR in RF.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if our OF by the end of the year was mostly Kiriloff, Buxton, and Larnich. The good news is, we have some pretty good depth so we should be good in the OF.
  11. We were so bad against the run last year so I'm happy with this signing. I've complained we've misused Barr for years now so ...
  12. I'll post the answer around 5 tonight unless someone gets it faster. One question is pretty easy, the other is insanely hard. Easy first. According to b-r, only three people born in Canada have amassed 60 WAR or more in their career. Name them. (I got all three) Hard question. According to b-r, only 5 people born in Canada have hit 200 HR in the majors. Name them. (I only got three).
  13. He's a nice story and his family had commented in a few places on social media how proud they are of him but, no, he's not going to be an all-star.
  14. The cop didn't do anything wrong. Point was that I - and many other lawyers - have had clients treated much, much worse by cops for doing far less than what Johnny and his wife did.
  15. Any of you tech/computer game getting on RBLX? Not an area I know well. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/roblox-gains-steam-market-debut-162415152.html
  16. https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/11/us/johnny-damon-dui-bodycam-video-spt-trnd/index.html I have had clients treated a lot worse by cops for doing a lot less during a traffic stop. Can't quite figure out what the difference is though.
  17. Vikes cut Bailey, not a big surprise. Honest question, when was the last time you felt comfortable about a MN kicker?
  18. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/buy-the-dip-with-apple-microsoft-and-these-other-tech-stocks-before-they-fly-way-higher-says-analyst-11614860585?siteid=yhoof2 Suggests buying Apple and microsoft or a few others.
  19. Yep, painful
  20. I thought this article was a nice reminder for why you should hold and not sell. https://www.ft.com/content/f8f8b067-e663-4afe-90dd-6a243929af86?ftcamp=traffic/partner/feed_headline/us_yahoo/auddev My wife and I have been pretty good about not panic selling, SHOP being my biggest mistake. Generally, you should only sell when you need to. We've bought stocks and sold them to pay off student debt, buy a house, etc but generally we own for the long haul and, with dividend reinvestment, it's worked for us.
  21. I assume this was MGNI?
  22. Thorpe could be something. I think the rest of the guys battling for #5 are meh but Thorpe could be better than that. Hopefully he has it all together.
  23. Yeah, I think we have the third best rotation after Cleveland and Chicago. Berrios is our best pitcher and I think both Maeda and Pineda are really solid starters. After that, it's a little iffy. We have quantity but, eh. There doesn't seem to be a lot of upside with our best hope some of these guys can be average ML pitchers.
  24. I'll take the over. His defensive stats were dragged down by playing next to Buxton but he should be ok in Cleveland. I think he'll have his best offensive season there and be an all-star.
