  1. its your position that Odorizzi and his agent had no clue of what his market vakue would be if he declined the QO? Or is it your position he knew he could get as much as Wheeler/Bumgarner/Ryu and elected NOT to? Color me skeptical, in either case.
  2. your argument is that the 2019 NL CY Award winner isnt better than any of Berrios, Odorizzi, or Pineda?? THAT'S what your hanging your hat on? Edit: CY runner up
  3. provided he accepts. Which I'm guessing Odorizzi regrets.
  4. The Twins have developed a handful of effective starters in 3 decades, but if we hold on with clenched fingers to THIS set of prospects, we'll be set up for long term success!! We're going to have top notch pitching coming out of our ears, and it'll line up perfectly with the endless supply of highly successful position players! And the money saved now will allow a splash or two THEN...maybe when we're coming off a 100 win season, and have obvious needs!! Slow and steady!
  5. Scratch Ryu off that list of available free agents. This is a major disappointment of an offseason, and there's no rescuing it. Dont care who they do or dont trade for, they've wasted an opportunity to add badly needed top starting pitching for nothing but money, of which they have barrel fulls.
  6. I dont see anywhere in the post you quoted a statement that Falvey and Levine want to lose. Its difficult to have reasonable conversations against strawmen.
  7. you list three FA options, two of which are gone. That's 2/3rds...seems like a Dramatic dwindling to me.
  8. first of all, neither of us KNOW they're going to add to the rotation. They should...and they probably will. But adding to the bottom of the rotation is pretty much the same as not adding at all, in terms of what it actually accomplishes. And FA options have dwindled down to one. So we're down to that one option, or adding through trade...where options are extremely limited, and will be very expensive. So why pretend there's unlimited time, and unlimited options, to add "impact pitching?" I just don't get it.
  9. I hope I'm always passionate enough about the Twins to be able to summon up a good temper tantrum every now and then. Otherwise, what's the point? I might as well be watching paint dry.
  10. I dont think "a lot" of posters think getting one "big buck pitcher" guarantees the Twins will be in the WS. In fact...can you point me to a single such post? I do think adding a pitcher to the top of the rotation makes the Twins a much better bet to make the post season, and to have a better chance of advancing once there. I also think the Twins currently have ample resources--financial and prospect--to add such a pitcher. They can do both...AND add a large contract such as Donaldson. And do so without much threat to any long term "competitiveness." I'd even go so far as to say the FO has said the same. And I'd even go further and say if they dont find a way to add to THIS team, they're probably not cut out for the job. As for slow and steady...I'm reasonably "experienced" as well, and what I've learned is that the race isnt always won by the fastest, but that's surely the way to bet.
  11. Pray tell, why? He's been fantastic this year.
  12. They could try cold hard cash. ... ... hahahahahaha I kill me.
  13. I disagree with the "be competitive 8 of 10 years vs pushing all their chips in" theory, but I can understand the theory. My problem with it is more along the lines of, what makes you think the Twins will be competitive for 8 of the next 10 years? Shouldn't they need to actually do that first, before you give them credit for such a conservative strategy? They've managed 4 seasons above .500 since moving into TF, and two of those were 83 and 85 win seasons that didn't even result in ALC championships. They haven't won a post season game, much less series, in forever. I realize there's a new FO in place, but you're asking for exactly the same strategy that got us nowhere under Ryan. No thanks. Push some chips in once in a while for a change. Let's try that for a few decades, and then compare.
  14. Donaldson, Ryu, a trade for Gray, and some bullpen help. Offseason done.
  15. you want to devote 3 of 26 roster spots to the 5th starter?
  16. Concur. And there is virtually zero chance Graterol is in the rotation for the entire year. He doesn't have the innings under his belt. I guess he could start out in the pen, and then maybe transition to the rotation by mid summer.
  17. It also demonstrates, to me, the folly of "wait until you're really good to get really good players." You sign those FAs, and make those trades, when you can. Because they probably won't be available if you wait around for the "perfect" time.
  18. "Underwhelmed" is the word that comes to mind.
  19. a lot of people dont realize Minneapolis is in the US?? I call shenanigans.
  20. maybe they have wives/fiances who dont like the weather in Miami.
