  1. He still has the no-hitter, but not the perfect game.
  2. Gibby on a pace for a perfect game on 27 pitches. Don't want to tire him.
  3. This seems like something that *could* be better dealt with by teammates than by management. If Cruz, Castro, or one of the other senior players simply sat him down and said "This is not OK. You are hurting our team's chances of winning," it should be enough to make him think a little more carefully. If not, then flip him to a team that overvalues his physical skills and is willing to neglect the mistakes and flailing at balls outside the strike zone.
  4. Believe it or not, there is actually a word for this: the antepenultimate series!
  5. Given the changes in the ball that have led to increases in HRs across the board, this seems to me to be simply not true. They are one of the best offensive teams this year, but do not even lead the majors in runs scored (the ultimate measure of offense) and are third in OPS. Let's not get carried away. They are good, but only "one of the greatest this year."
  6. That's how the front office would think, but I can't imagine the players buying into that thinking. As a GM, I'd say play the kids so we can see what they can do, but as a player, I'm going all out all the time.
  7. I'll take the single, but it sure seems like that could have been fielded by a 2b with decent range.
  8. Imagine how many games Detroit and Kansas City might lose next year, with three good division opponents. Kind of like Baltimore in most years.
  9. If Arraez had come up as an unheralded rookie and had Schoop's numbers, would we be complaining?
  10. Too bad that he didn't save the good stretch for the post-season. Or is it a good thing that he got this aberration out of his system before the post-season?
  11. Is it just my misperception or could Rosario's ball have been caught by someone like Buxton? It seems to me like it hit the wall about 5 feet up, so a CF with legs could have gotten there, no?
  12. Giolito (ERA=3.41) is out. Detwiler (ERA=6.79) is in. Baseball's a funny game: He'll probably throw a 3-hit shutout.
  13. That was a decent starting lineup. Valencia hadn't quite gotten it together yet and Hardy had an off year, but that lineup deserved to be division champs.
  14. But I think we have lots of potential surprises in the mix. Perez is certainly capable of a dominant start, and Smeltzer and Dobnak have both been very good most of the time. And there are breaks, both between series and within for travel days. The need for the fourth starter will depend on how the series go. Of course, the most likely outcome is still a first-round loss. We will be underdogs against whichever team we play.
  15. Before we get too despondent about the rotation, remember Les Straker! In 1987 we went into the post-season with essentially two starters. It didn't go too badly!
  16. Well, he's a net of zero now after giving away (at least) a run on the bases in the 1st.
  17. Well, three blunders so far in the first inning.
  18. I'm not sure I want to open up this can of worms, but I do wonder (especially after Pineda) how many teams and players are able to game the PED tests. When a team has multiple players who are outperforming expectations, I can't help thinking that maybe its training staff has come up with something that either isn't yet illegal or cannot be detected in the tests. The one and (so far) only time I was at Target Field was in 2016 against Boston, who scored about 15 runs and had pretty much every starter hitting .300 with power, even though some were rookies and others had never done that before. I couldn't help speculating on whether they were legitimate or not.
