  1. Garver to the Yankees to join his hitting and catching coaches? Depends on what we get back, of course.
  2. Off topic, but thanks for asking. The last week has looked like the apocalypse here. The air quality index was 516 yesterday, which is beyond the top of the "hazardous" region. They don't have a name for it, just "beyond scale." That said, we are grateful that the high east winds that were blowing the fires (and the smoke) from the forests into Portland have subsided, and it looks like the main metro area is not going to be threatened by fire. It seems a bit like rooting for the Yankees to be hoping for rain in Portland, but that's what we need to clean out the air. Maybe tonight or tomorrow, and likely at the end of the week. There is hope!
  3. You are a treasure for TD! Thank you so much for your informed analyses. We all tend to speculate regarding things about which we know little, so advice from a true expect is priceless!
  4. I'm sure that the crowd noise made it hard to hear the call...
  5. Not enough AB to really know, but his strikeout rate (5/19) was not prohibitive here. That was my biggest worry about him and it remains to be seen if he can continue to make contact once the pitchers start to figure him out a little next year.
  6. Rich Hill seems to turn into Poor Valley in the 4th or 5th inning. Maybe an opener or a long reliever?
  7. I hate to say it, but Cave would have caught it.
  8. They are giving him a hit on a ball that the fielder overruns and lets bounce off his glove? What's the world coming to?
  9. This is news? The news is the 3-base error.
  10. Has Lewis played at 2nd? I've heard about ss, cf, and 3b.
  11. Watching the Twins and the Cardinals earlier in the week, I was impressed that the Cardinals seem to have the same classic uniforms every time I have seen them. Similarly, other "historic" teams such as the Red Sox and Yankees don't change uniforms every year, if ever. Why can't the Twins do that?
  12. If it looks iffy, I hope that they decide on a bullpen game tonight but that Cleveland uses up Bieber in a game that doesn't end up counting. On the other hand, if it ends up as a double-header, Cleveland might not have to use their bullpen and their starters are scary. If they were in Portland, they wouldn't be playing because you would lose a popup in the smoky haze.
  13. The strong record of the AC Central must be reflected by a poor record of the NL Central, since those are the only outside teams that our division is playing. (And of course, except against the Twins, KC and Detroit are poor, so the wins within the division are not spread out evenly.)
  14. Seeing the two of them together looks like some kind of sci-fi movie with aliens! That or a cave sheltering furry animals.
  15. On a somber note, I'm seeing in the Post that Tom Seaver has died. As an American League fan, I didn't see much of him, but he always seemed like a good guy, notwithstanding playing for a New York team.
  16. What a terrible game of baseball. Silly mistakes in the field giving away runs. And we're now well over two hours and have only finished 4.5 innings.
  17. We're just being the Twins. They even did that last year.
  18. Buxton hit the wall last night making a catch. Are we sure he's OK?
  19. Baseball is a hard game. You have to be 100% focused to succeed. Except for Cruz and Maeda, this team is not. Hence the mistakes, inconsistency, and "total system failure." Maybe they will come back focused in 2021, if there's a season.
  20. There are multiple distractions right now, and the Twins seem totally distracted. I get the feeling that no one other than Cruz is really focused in on baseball. And I guess I'm not really focused on baseball either (but it's not my job). I'm ready to pack it in and get ready for 2021.
  21. Umm, typo? Is the capital M on "may" a suggestion that Trevor will be on the move?
  22. I hate to admit it, but Buxton is currently starring at his most effective position: IL. Do we really want to sign him for more years of injuries? For me, I'd offer a contract that assumes that he plays 75 games, then incentives for more. Base salary = half what he's worth; it doubles if he plays the full season.
  23. Actually, fumbling two balls in the outfield in 4 innings is pretty special.
