    And that's a tactical decision by the widely revered (on this site) front office and manager: No bunts. No stolen bases. Swing for the fences with a high launch angle. Don't even try to punch the ball to beat the shift (unless you're Arraez). Zillions of strikeouts are an acceptable side effect of the above. After 60 years, it's too late to find a new team, but not too late to alter the priority of the sports I follow, and baseball is slipping.

    I think, right now, I'd rather that Colome did not start. Seeing those two words in the same line was frightening!

    So ... has he been seeing Rowson on the side? For all the (perhaps justified) complaining about the team's current hitting coaches, somehow the current crew have Buxton doing things that he rarely did before. Credit where credit is due?

    This leaves out one crucially important thing: tactics. It makes sense that Baldelli would omit that because it's on him. Making the right tactical decision at the right time has been a serious problem for the club this year.

    But, but, but ,,, we had such great exit velocity! Maybe this team is built to maximize "advanced statistics" but not to win baseball games?

    This team is very fortunate that American sports reward consistent failure with high draft choices instead of relegation.

    The way the "big" club is going, we'll all be craving wins by the time the MiLB season rolls around. The Wichita park looks nice, but holy cow ... how far is it to a hill? Reminds me of living in Houston, where the highest point is a freeway bridge.

    I'm no physicist, but doesn't air resistance also vary greatly with weather conditions? As we get to the hot, muggy summer would we expect less carry?

    I hope that you're right, but the pathetic spring hitting has me worried, especially with the changed baseball. The Twins' offense is built around the homerun. If that is muted by the changes, they will struggle and often look pathetic with three-strikeout innings being common enough to make me turn off the broadcast. Add in a couple of injuries and I could easily see a .500 season looking up at Chicago and Cleveland.

    I was also easier when you could expect that the opponent's starting pitcher would pitch 7-9 innings. Now, unless you are at the top of the order, you only sometimes get more than one AB against the starter and the guy out of the bullpen is likely to throw with the other hand.

    I assume you mean "a shot" and I agree. Perhaps more than one, one with the Twins and one or more in the arm.

    Apologies for derailing the thread! Leaving the "l" out of public is a surprisingly common typo, which spell checkers always miss. My colleagues and I have had countless chuckles over the years when reading essays and theses referring to "pubic goods" or "pubic policy."

    Could they possibly find league names that are more boring and generic than this? Wow. Not only are they gutting the economics of the teams, but now they're working on the personality. What's next? Naming the Saints as MN AAA?

    "Who doesn’t love dingers?" I don't! Compared with triples, double plays, great catches in the outfield, beaten out bunts, and lots of other plays, I find home runs about as exciting to watch as walks and strikeouts. Of course, they are exciting when they change the outcome of a game dramatically, but most of the time they are just adding to a lead or cutting into a deficit, often by only one run, and end up not really having an impact. So, for excitement as a spectator, give me the deader balls all day!

    Of course, I don't bet on sports, but as an economist I have to chip in that it is always rational for a risk-averse person to bet against his or her favorite team. It reduces the variation in your mood because you either win the game or you win the bet.
