  1. Rich Hill seems to turn into Poor Valley in the 4th or 5th inning. Maybe an opener or a long reliever?
  2. The strong record of the AC Central must be reflected by a poor record of the NL Central, since those are the only outside teams that our division is playing. (And of course, except against the Twins, KC and Detroit are poor, so the wins within the division are not spread out evenly.)
  3. Seeing the two of them together looks like some kind of sci-fi movie with aliens! That or a cave sheltering furry animals.
  4. Baseball is a hard game. You have to be 100% focused to succeed. Except for Cruz and Maeda, this team is not. Hence the mistakes, inconsistency, and "total system failure." Maybe they will come back focused in 2021, if there's a season.
  5. There are multiple distractions right now, and the Twins seem totally distracted. I get the feeling that no one other than Cruz is really focused in on baseball. And I guess I'm not really focused on baseball either (but it's not my job). I'm ready to pack it in and get ready for 2021.
  6. Umm, typo? Is the capital M on "may" a suggestion that Trevor will be on the move?
  7. I hate to admit it, but Buxton is currently starring at his most effective position: IL. Do we really want to sign him for more years of injuries? For me, I'd offer a contract that assumes that he plays 75 games, then incentives for more. Base salary = half what he's worth; it doubles if he plays the full season.
  8. I think I like St. Paul better than any of these options. (And he could dash off some epistles between at-bats!)
  9. Given the possibility/probability of labor strife after 2021, I wonder if anyone will want to sign a contract that extends beyond next year.
  10. What you say is exactly the reason why now would be the time to build a team around speed. Everyone else is into homeruns, so they are not worrying about pitchers and catchers who can control the running game. A team that is built for speed should do well in that environment. It's kind of like having a good running game when everyone else is focusing on defending the pass.
  11. I get your point. But unlike any other year, we don't have any minor league statistics to tell us whether the players we want to see are in good form or slumping. The team, on the other hand, knows because they are watching them every day. We just have to trust their judgment (or not) this year.
  12. It was always awkward having the best/only lefty be the closer. It might be better to use him in situations against tough left-handed hitters and someone else in the generic closer role.
  13. Anybody else wondering that our two "fielding substitutions" at 2B and (to some extent) 1B combined to screw up the DP in the 9th? I'd bet that Arraez makes that throw and we win in 9. He may not have a lot of range, but he doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
  14. That means that every out today is worth 3.47 normal outs. One double play wipes out more than 2 innings of a normal season!
  15. VERY small sample size. About a week ago we were lamenting his BA in the low .100s. I'd like the think that he's "turned the corner," but let's see where he is in a month.
  16. True, but not all of us have the time and energy to explore them. It's nice to have a brief note like this on the Twins' site that we do read, with links to more details if we want them. I'm grateful for these little pieces. I'll know now to watch for information about Tatis and have a context when he is mentioned on broadcasts.
  17. The Twins sure seem to collect feel-good pitchers. Smeltzer, Dobnak, Thielbar. What's next? Bert coming back to pitch a 150-pitch complete game in his 70s?
  18. Is anyone else worried that the Twins are going to get off to a 10-2 start before the season is shut down?
  19. I keep seeing notes about individual players but it's hard to keep track beyond just the Twins. It would be a really useful addition to TD to have a running list of players who are sick and those who have opted out of playing. Is anyone on top of this who could share?
  20. Is there anyone else who thinks of Wiel in the same category as Arraez? Both of them simply hit at every level, but neither was a great prospect. I guess that the difference between 2B and 1B is huge here, but he might end up surprising us if he gets a chance.
  21. Morbid question, but what would happen if a player on a long-term contract were to die (Covid-19 or otherwise)? Is the team still obligated to pay the unearned salary?
  22. That might depend on what "school" and "college ball" are. None of us really knows what academics and college sports will look like even in the spring. That's another big question mark for players at a very uncertain time.
  23. The Twins are positioning themselves in case MLB decides to change the format of the competition to Home Run Derby, which seems to be the trend.
