  1. Of all the news on the site today, surely this is the one that moves the needle for TD!
  2. I agree, assuming that Lopez doesn't follow almost all other Twins pitchers to the IL for most of his time here.
  3. It would help if our BP understood the letters to mean bullpen rather than batting practice,,,
  4. I'm not buying for 2022 at the deadline. One or two patches will not make this team into a championship contender. We are better than, say, Pittsburgh, but our results against New York, Houston, and the Dodgers are telling a true story. The Twins are good enough to win some games and beat poor teams more often than that, but not good enough to win big games against top competition. Don't give up anything of value to try to salvage something from 2022. If you can make a trade using something with limited value going forward (Sano, perhaps Kepler, redundant youngsters), to get something useful in 2023 and 2024, then do it. Otherwise, not for me.
  5. But then, the algorithms didn't figure in that the Twins are exceedingly proficient at stranding multiple runners who get on with no outs!
  6. The team looks a little tired. And, quite honestly, I'm a little tired of them too. They need someone or something to get them pumped up. (Apparently two walk-off wins did not do the trick.) I don't know what the answer is, but they have 2-3 of these really "blah" games every week.
  7. Why is it that I'm not seeing a dozen posts saying "Free Jake Cave"? ? If ANYONE else had reached base in 41 (41!) straight games at AAA, this site would be indignant with rage at him not being promoted.
  8. Have they increased sacrifice bunts as well? I wish that the Twins would develop that skill better as players come through the system.
  9. Here's the corresponding table for Arraez: He has added 1.57 estimated wins for the Twins. What the statistic says is that Correa's hits this season have not come at times that significantly increased the chances of a Twins' win, but Arraez's have. I generally agree with you on a lot of the sabrmetric stuff, but I long thought that a measure like WPA would be an appropriate one for looking at clutch hitting even before anyone published it.
  10. I wondered about Correa coming up big because it seems to me that he has gotten a lot of hits where they didn't matter much and made a lot of outs when hits would have been crucial. He's hit some homeruns and has an average over .300, but how much has he helped the team win? It may be out of favor with others, but I've always like the "Win Probability Added" at FanGraphs. Here's what the numbers say: This season his plate appearances have given the Twins 0.24 LESS expected wins, despite his nice statistics. He has not been a WPA machine since his first two years. That seems like a pretty expensive proposition for a mid-market team. I wonder if that is one reason why he didn't get the kind of long-term contract offers that he wanted/expected?
  11. As always, it depends on the return (for me). There are many things that I want, but only a few that I want given what they would cost.
  12. And Wallner is yet another left-handed hitter at positions where we already have Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff, etc.
  13. Whose fault is that? Players learn to bunt, or not, as they develop through the minor league system. The majority of the Twins' players are home-grown, so if they can't bunt it is TOTALLY the Twins' fault. Apologies for the double post. The box didn't go away so I thought the first time I hit the button it didn't take.

  15. Maybe that's what a truly good team is: one that is consistently good, not just good on their best days.
  16. I didn't watch the game last night. When I woke up this morning and saw 8 IP for Bundy, the only explanation that seemed possible is that Rocco went to sleep in the 4th, then woke up after 8 and told his coaches something to the effect of "Good golly! How did you let that happen? Is Bundy still alive? No doubt we'll have to put him on the IL now."
  17. Batting Buxton at the top of the order does not maximize the productivity of his at-bats, given the kind of hitter he has become. Too many solo homeruns because the bottom guys aren't on base.
  18. Thanks for this! There are so many TD photos that do not tell us who is in the picture, especially when it is a minor-leaguer whom most of us have never seen.
  19. I know it's just a throw-away introductory remark that is not the point of the story, but I'm denying this. He's hitting a lot of homeruns, yes. But MVP? He's batting .233 with an OBP of .317 hitting at the top of the order. He's striking out 26.6% of the time and walking only 8.5%. He had an 0-for-30 spell where he was the least valuable player in the league for more than a week. Injury-related or not, his famed speed is not providing much to the team as he doesn't beat out infield hits or steal bases anymore. That record wouldn't get an MVP vote from me unless he hit 100 homeruns and drove in 250 runs. It's more empty slugger much of the time this year than consistently valuable player.
  20. Does anyone know the date of Correa's opt-out? Last day of season?
  21. Crossing brides can be dangerous to a marriage.
  22. I wish that the whole team could just take the week off. I'm surprised that Correa is not on your list. This is a vote that depends on hype and lifetime reputation as much as (or more than) on this year's performance. Correa is the biggest name on the Twins' roster and his statistics are now respectable.
  23. I didn't watch for Apple reasons, but this is not unusual for national telecasts. They probably used a "generic" broadcast team who does all sports. Baseball, because of its pace, requires a very different on-air persona than continuous-action sports such as basketball, hockey, and American football. Long live Vin Scully! When I watch European football games on American TV, I have to turn the sound off with almost all of the American broadcasters. (Most networks use English broadcasters, but Fox's broadcasters are particularly bad.) Like baseball, footie has a unique pace that does not fit well with continuous ultra-high-energy hype. The worst I ever heard was an American hockey broadcaster trying to use the same adrenaline style. He lasted about 30 seconds for me before I was frantically hunting for the mute key!
