  1. Hicks' BA is now up to .278, Rosario back up to .288. This is the kind of stuff that happens when the big guy who makes the decisions on who gets to play has your back.
  2. I don't believe the Twins will make the playoffs this year. I believe what we saw in the first half was, sort of, a euphoria over a clean break from [ almost ] the entire coaching staff that lead them to 4 90 loss seasons. I mean, who wouldn't be excited by that??
  3. I'd look for one of the older-ish player to be put on waivers. Avery is still only 25, but I don't really see anything exciting about him.
  4. I think Sano needs someone hitting behind him that could force the issue if he's walked. How about Dozier??
  5. I'll just say this about Torii Hunter: He's served his purpose. Hit and hit with some power. Provide a little leadership and get the team in an upbeat mood [pretty damn tough after 4 90L seasons]. He deserves a pat on the back and a nice exit present. I also like your idea that a pursuit of Gonzales makes Arcia "expendable". Add him to the offer!
  6. Well, pretty much the standard line: Trade for these star players to help us win, but DO NOT trade any of the minor league prospects because they are Tony the Tiger G R E A T!! Comical. The one player that is alleged to be available that would really help the Twins this year and next is Carlos Gonzales of CO. Yeah, he's got a big salary. So what? He's only 29, is starting to come around. CO is looking for SP's. Twins got pitchers. E. Santana, K. Stewart, A. Meyers to start. Most likely some money exchanged and another low level play on each side to balance contracts/personnel. All a moot point. Twins won't make it to the playoffs this year. Not after what Toronto did.
  7. The story from ESPN is this is the Jays final push and the Rockies side is the move is a setup to trade for starting pitchers they desperately need.
  8. MLB Rumors fills in some of the details [1 MiLB pitcher not named yet} http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/blue-jays-to-acquire-troy-tulowitzki.html Summary: Swapping contract obligations with Tulo and Reyes Blue Jays sending 2 very good MiLB RP's and another TBD Rockies include LaTroy Hawkins as filler. And.... Rockies looking to trade Reyes because they have Trevor Story ready and Carlos Gonzales still on the block. Not sure Twins could have matched Blue Jays offer.
  9. I wouldn't do anything right now. The sellers are looking for desperate teams to overpay. I'd pick up the phone again after the Twins are eliminated. Let them come and beg for me to help THEM.
  10. Just heard on MLB TV. Baltimore will NOT trade Gausman.
  11. Agree 100%. Perkins is not an elite closer. See what I did there? What can I tell ya, It's Smartass Monday
  12. The things I Don't believe in ( er, Baseball wise ) 1. Twins are a playoff-caliber team 2. Perkins is an elite closer 3. Current Twins lineup will be sustainably successful over the next years Like I posted elsewhere earlier: the Twins/Yankees series will settle things. I think it did. Just like the Gardy years, they can not compete against the big boys. Perkins to the Yankees for RP Dellin Betances, C Gary Sanchez and a PTBNL. Oh, and to make everyone happy, throw in Nolasco, too. What the heck....
  13. Hamels, Lecroy and Tulowitzki trades. Ever notice none of their current teams are making Twins counter offers?
  14. Gods, it seemed like that fiasco went on a lot longer than that Herr was like the perfect guy for that lineup and he was pissy from the very beginning. Somebody in the front office really read that one poorly....
  15. Wasn't the Twins trade for Tommy Herr done around mid-season 1988?
  16. Well, not really sure NY would jump on that one. But I like the idea of trading for both if Twins could actually pry Betances away from them. For both RP and C positions, MAJOR upgrade. Definitely an off-season move for the Twins.
  17. IF the Twins are going to do anything via trade, it'll be done in the offseason. I don't think management is all that convinced the current roster is really post-season ready. Sanchez sounds MLB ready: in an article I found yesterday, NY favors defense over offense in it's catchers. Polanco straight-up for Sanchez? Possibly.......
  18. Doesn't Perkins always run down this time of year? Maybe the Twins should spend less time in building up his number of saves and save him for the more important time of the year, the 2nd half.
  19. Stats vs. a single batter be damned. If Glen Perkins is your closer, you expect him to do the job. Twins management has had his back for several years, making sure he gets all the easy save opportunities that present themselves. Has anyone heard any current trade rumors for Perkins? Not I. Maybe there's a reason why. BTW: May against Alex Rodriquez??
  20. Twins management should be looking past the "right now" to the future. Neither Weiters or O'Day appear to be a "future" type.
  21. Question: I don't follow ZiPS on players that closely [ ok, ok, pretty much not at all], but it seems to me that Kepler's ZiPS are being distorted by a 2015 season that seems out of character for him. Yes? No?
  22. "The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure." Translated into baseball terms, I believe that's an everyday play, possibly an infielder [where every play begins in front of him], not a starting pitcher [directly involved every 5th day], not a relief pitcher [randomly called into a game], not a DH [never on the field] and not an outfielder [where the play has to come to them]. It's a play that produces everyday, offense or defense. In other words, he is capable in all of the "5-tools" of baseball. In other words, a guy other team members look up to; a guy you can build a team around.
  23. I think there's something of a misconception going on here. re: calling up a MiLB starter and putting him in the bullpen. It's really done to get that pitcher acclimated to the MLB environment [big city, bright lights, steak instead of hot dogs...] and get a taste of MLB batters. We've seen them in the minors, call this a major league status check. Hey, sometimes they end up just sitting on the damn bench
  24. OK, that's a little more like it
