  1. I'm with you on that. I just didn't read anything that said he was great on both offense and defense. I've never seen him play, so......
  2. Interesting. From what I was reading about him, he wasn't valued nearly that high. The feeling by some was the Yankees valued defense over offense at catcher and were happy with the combo of McCann and Murphy. Sanchez didn't have good enough catching skills.
  3. The Yankees announced they will listen to trade offers for MiLB catcher Gary Sanchez. Still young (22) he's been moving slowly through the Yankees system. Hits well. Reports on his defense varies widely. Possible target for the Twins??
  4. I kinda hoped the Twins would take a run at Cishek....
  5. I tend to agree with you. It could be as simple as what Sano said: essentially, MiLB pitchers lack (strike zone) control where MLB pitchers have it. Arcia is one of those guys that just don't look good in the outfield, but have the potential to out hit that problem.
  6. It's about leverage. Taller pitcher have more of it that shorter pitchers. Some "short" pitcher [Pedro Martinez, Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson] learned to create more leverage via their pitching motion.
  7. I like the thinking here, Mike. I'm only looking at the stats and they kinda tell me Arcia is too much for Gausman. Arcia deserves another call-up at this point and I'd wait to see the results. You never know: Arcia could actually be worth a lot more As for a spot in the rotation: you gotta be kidding me. I don't see an issue. As pitchers get worn out towards the latter part of the season, they'll be looking for starters. Hey, if the Terry Ryan can trade Kevin Correia to the Dodgers, anything is possible
  8. I've read a couple articles and watched a video of Carter Capps' delivery. Many are questioning if it's legal, that he's jumping at home plate. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/21753540/v73287783/miaatl-capps-hopstep-delivery-analyzed Apparently, if a pitcher hops towards home plate and drags his trailing foot, it's legal. It's said in some cases, he's not dragging that foot.
  9. Do West Coast teams have an equivalent to the stinky Mississippi River? I don't think so :-) I agree with hybridbear, a good part can be due to travel. Another part is, those teams have a larger revenue market to draw from. I also don't discount the notion that those teams [at least now] have more aggressive management and ownership.
  10. John Sickels is a tool? That's pretty rude....
  11. Hmm.... My first thought was "A 36YR OLD CATCHER?!?!?!" Then I thought, well why not, considering the current state of Twins catching. I think I like the Diekman part more.
  12. I highlighted the things I liked in your post After 4 years of, I don't even know what to call it anymore, I'm not big on making short-term changes in the hopes of making the playoffs this year. I really like the idea of going after an ace. The Tigers may be making Price available. [Possibly Cespedes, too] That would most likely mean Buxton and 1-2 quality pitching talents would need to be included. And I see the Tigers have Nick Castellanos playing 3B. I'd toss in Plouffe too sweeten the pot, without any real knowledge how good Sano's defense is.
  13. "Danny Santana regressed so hard in his sophomore season that the world actually started rotating backwards too." Now THAT's funny!! My question to you, Parker is this: Should the Twins be active shoppers for a playoff run this year or building for the future? I can see at some positions that it's both. How about starting pitching? The only true #1 pitcher I know is available is David Price. Apparently the Tigers are gearing up for a garage sale. How about a proven bat for the OF? Just curious.......
  14. Angles, Yankees and Pirates. These 3 series should show whether or not the Twins are actually going to be playoff contenders. The Angels have established a template: Don't throw Dozier 1st pitch fastballs. The rest of the lineup, lot's of breaking stuff. The pitching staff resembles the Tigers [actually, the Tigers over the past several years]: Don't worry too much about the starting staff. Keep things close with the Twins starters, because you can tee-off on their bullpen. It's been a great ride: A cause for looking forward to a .500+ WINNING season this year and renewed hope for the next.
  15. Back to centerfield, where he was successful last year? From what I've read about Polanco, his arm plays out much better at second base.
  16. I would say, absolutely zero. Acquiring a guy like Tulowitzki is important from an image perspective. Gives free agents a feeling that this team REALLY wants to contend. The best example I can give [and many of you won't like] is the Green Bay Packers 1993 signing of DE Reggie White.
  17. Interesting commentary from a Rockies fan site: http://www.purplerow.com/2015/7/10/8928733/an-extra-reason-why-the-rockies-need-to-make-some-trades Rockies are potentially looking to squeeze down 58 players onto the 40 man roster. And what their GM is thinking: http://m.rockies.mlb.com/news/article/137616334/jeff-bridich-on-trade-deadline-jon-gray And the ever popular: Who would you trade first??? http://roxpile.com/2015/07/19/colorado-rockies-poll-which-player-do-you-trade-first/
  18. Interesting. The story and you have a source with knowledge of the trade market. Kudos !! Yeah, I get it, it's really early in the discussions. However..... Tulo has an injury history, so I'd be real careful to weigh that into the equation. More important: trade Gibson now? I just can't see it. He's the one young pitcher who's proving himself. And I can't see further depleting the starting staff by including Berrios. I'd probably try Hughes, May, add in a MiLB pitcher not named Berrios and Hicks and/or Arcia. From the Rockies: Tulowitzki, Axford & Hawkins, Hundley and, oh, tossing an A-AA prospect, or 2. LOL, good luck with that!!
  19. Twins should have started where they left off last year. D. Santana in CF and E. Escobar at SS. Both were successful over a good sample size. I'm still puzzled as to why they did this. I'm of the mind that the Twins are not playoff material. Overall, I think any trade should be made with an eye towards the future and not a playoff run. The only one's I would contemplate are Escobar, Cozart and Segura.
  20. The rest of the story on Sano's ankle injury. You're really gonna like this one.... From LEN III "Young Twins slugger Miguel Sano is expected to miss a few games because of a sprained right ankle suffered when he stepped on a ball going through fielding drills Saturday." “I was out there when it happened,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said. “He had been taking balls behind the bag, and he had moved in to take one coming off the bag. There was one [ball] between first and second that had rolled in from the outfield. He had made the play and came down on the ball. I guess we should have cleared the area a little better." Thanks, Molly
  21. I don't believe Arcia is a bust. I think he missed out on MiLB development time and is still catching up.
  22. I see there's still a lot of people doing bargain shopping. I view minor league players with a more skeptical eye than many of you. I don't believe a player in your MiLB system at single A level can or should be your #1 prospect. Or a 16 yr. old kid just signed from the international pool is suddenly the #10 prospect in your system. If these things are true, you've got a pretty bad system. If the Twins are contemplating a trade, EVERYONE is available.
  23. Sheezzzzz.... what did you guys do to jinx the Twins like this???
  24. Sano sprained the ankle before the game. And they let him play. Unbelievable. Oswaldo has been playing very well recently. I'd say he's the next man standing.
