  1. If it is in fact a hip injury, this may be a permanent thing.......
  2. Do we not remember what happened to Danny Santana and Kennys Vargas after great debut years last year? Superstar status doesn't happen after 1 season, let alone 34 games.
  3. I liked Rosario since spring training. I got to see very few of his AB's, but it was everything that Molitor said about Rosario: his aggressiveness, doing the little things and learning as SP progressed. And a pretty darn nice year hitting,. Hicks surprised me the most. Something finally clicked in his head. His defense seems to be better; no question his offense is. Buxton: I'm not sure about "game changing defense". Given a choice, I'd rather see "game changing offense" Like Thrylos posted above, Buxton has a problem there, but I believe it's completely fixable. Like Puckett [and now Hicks ] before him, Buxton needs to commit to planting that front foot. It doesn't have to be the dramatic step of Puckett or even Hicks.
  4. Nick, I've gotta believe it's all 3, exactly in that order. I haven't seen video of Arcia plate appearances lately, but the recurrence of the hip injury certainly would explain the good July and sudden failures again. I don't know anyone how wouldn't sulk, at least a little bit. And probably lead to #3. I'm not 100% up on his contact, but believe his options are up and Twins lose him. I'd be tempted to try to sign him on the cheap and see what plays out next year.
  5. Yeah! That just wasn't right.
  6. Buxton MUST hit as well. I don't know why we'd settle for Buxton to be a partial player. Use the same process as they did with Hicks.
  7. Do we KNOW that Hicks will play outstanding defense in RF? It's a different animal: in CF, most hits will be in a straight line and there's only one wall to worry about. In RF, there's gonna be some nasty sliced drives out there and another wall to work with. What we know right now is Hicks is hitting very well and playing defense very well in CF. Buxton does have great defensive skills. But you also have to take into account Buxton's offense. All we've got is 2 small sample sizes: 1 unsuccessful trip in MLB and 1 successful trip in AAA ball. If Buxton gets a Sept callup [more that likely] then he gets another chance to prove he can hit MLB pitching. Only then would I consider moving Hicks.
  8. I would not: Trade Hicks Platoon Hicks Move Hicks out of CF for BuxtonLike I posted elsewhere this morning, the recent success Buxton has had recently is over 19 AB's. Hicks recent success is over 24 games, 99 PA's. I like Buxton's potential a lot. But I don't believe in moving a successful player for potential, only. Sept. is a good time to check it out.
  9. I was really hoping that somebody would be Arcia or Vargas. Walking Sano would force the opposing team to throw strikes to Arcia or Vargas. Not sure either is up to the task yet. Dozier may be a better choice right now. He's still feeding on high fastballs [or so it seems].
  10. From the article link posted: "He touched 95-96 regularly his senior year with an 88-mile an hour slider,". That, and with the heavy 2-seamer, I'd just keep pounding the strikezone.
  11. Over his last 24 games [92 AB's], Hicks is hitting .328, 3 2b, 1 3b and 4 HR. Buxton's success is over 19 AB's. Noteworthy, but not a large sample size. Buxton should get a Sept call-up. He's done well. Maybe they'll try Hicks at another OF spot and run Buxton out to CF. With the success that Hicks has had this year, in the MLB, I don't see a NEED to replace Hicks in centerfield with Buxton. A nice problem to have.
  12. The 1st HR was impressive. Low and inside, Sano calmly turned on it. After that, the Ranger pitchers were really throwing a lot of meatballs. Yum, Yum :-)
  13. Agreed, they are using it as an excuse. I also keep hearing the Pohlad family saying "We'll spend what ever is needed", but no one taking advantage of that. However, I doubt the difference between the Twins payroll and KC is that high of a percentage. And the difference between the two is probably due to an uptick in the limited advertising opportunities available to KC after their recent success. In the big NY, LA, CHI markets, it's pretty easy to get those ad dollars. In MN, you actually have to win first.
  14. When you start talking about things like a players "intent" aren't you also saying that same thing could also be applied to all advanced metrics? Like "The batter intended to hit the ball".
  15. "Sell high." I'm with you on that. I would have sold high on Hrbek and Puckett, too. In the "small market" game that the Twins play in, you can't hold onto players until they are not longer performing at previous levels. And you can't constantly wring your hands over prospects. I'm not 100% sold on Buxton. I've always been very cautious when people are screaming "He's a 5 tool player!!!" There have been, and continue to be, very few authentic 5 tool players. Buxton, right now, can't hit MLB pitchers. If he cleans up his mechanics and adds a little muscle, that could really change quickly.
  16. Someone who want's to trade BUXTON?!?!?! GASP!
  17. The only thing I've heard about Polanco's fielding is his throwing. Which would make him a pretty nice substitution for Dozier, if they chose to trade him.
  18. Well, Wright just started a rehab stint after injuring his right hamstring on April 15. While rehabilitating from that injury, he hurt his lower back and was found to have spinal stenosis, which is the narrowing of spaces in the spine (backbone) which causes pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. So, yeah, there's a real possibility the Mets would consider a trade for Plouffe. Typically, smart teams will add injury insurance to any large contract like the one given to Wright.
  19. Jeez, not much love for a guy that's 2nd on the team in both HR's and RBI's, 4th in SLG% and 5th in OPS I would sign him, with the understanding that Hunter is wearing out from playing too many games. I think he'd be a great PH, good, limited time backup OF and DH. Smallish salary with option for a low-level management position. If Hunter is in the lineup as often as he is now, then 2-3 prospects have probably under-performed. Then again, how sweet it would be if a couple of those prospects blew our minds in spring training??
  20. However, Torii has said he wants to retire as a Twin. Guessing that's why the contract has a no-trade clause.
  21. Can't argue with anything you wrote here, Seth. The Twins are in a little bit of a bind: 1st half team or 2nd. I'm saying something in the middle. That means the Twins need to clear space for that "immense talent from the farm system" on the MLB roster. Problem is: I don't think other teams value Twins players as much as Twins fans do.
  22. Willie McGee of St. Louis is another, although I don't really remember him getting hurt that often. Davis, McGee and Lyman Bostock are all that Buxton could become. Just not Davis' power. Maybe, but just can't envision that right now. Buxton's immediate future should be a high protein diet and pumping some iron
  23. Well, then there's that....
  24. It's not "apples and oranges" if Buxton WAS promoted to the Twins. Many here thought he was ready. Just like they did with Hicks. Hicks finally proved it after 2 tries with the Twins and, to no lessor extent, his body finally developing. One year down. My belief is Buxton is still a year away.
