  1. I don't think Gasper will be catching for them, he is the third catcher on the roster. I just don't know what Caratini brings to this roster.
  2. Caratini is exactly what he has been his whole career, he is not a regular like they are trying to make him into. He will make a good play here and there but he is not a regular player. And on this roster with his salary he needs to be more of a difference maker than he is. That money would have been better spent on a relief pitcher.
  3. This was the plan before today, they only pitched him because they knew he was going down. They had plenty of other options to DFA someone to make room on the roster like Garcia but instead chose Roa to DFA. Klein was then the only option to go down. Garcia still might find the fountain of youth before September so we can't cut him loose.
  4. They are looking at Klein as a bulk guy, that was announced at the beginning of the year and that is how he is being used. So does that mean he is a reliever or starter.
  5. They signaled this move when they DFA'd Roa instead of Garcia, so you knew it was going to be Klein sent down. In a vacuum this signing does make some sense. But how many reclamation projects do you need. At what point are you going to give the young pitchers in St. Paul a chance. Or do they not believe in them because it feels like they have more belief in the scrap heap they keep choosing from. They have another 4 or 5 scrap heap types in St. Paul if they don't want to give the young kids a chance why not one of them. Garcia, Banda, and Topa for starters can all be left in DC along with Outman. It is not too early to start making changes so you know what you have for next year. The longer they wait, the more chances are that they go into next year uncertain again of what they have and what reinforcements they need.
  6. Lewis had an OPS of .822 before he went on the IL and he did show improvement the last half of 25. He has only back for 10 games, I think it is too early to give up on him.
  7. The manager was definitely part of the problem. But this organization needs a complete overhaul from the top down. I know everyone is down on the Pohlads. But Falvey left this organization a mess. He had no sustained success and he should have been booted last fall, that is what I blame the Pohlads for. There was minimal player development, a rigid adherence to platooning that led to a suboptimal roster from a talent standpoint, the a player can play anywhere theory, and of course no bullpen. My only hope is that Pohlad will bring in a real baseball executive who knows how to use all the tools, analytics, scouting and other metrics to build an organization. And insures there is staff to develop the players.
  8. They need to let Lewis play up here this year and see if he can be part of the future. He wasn't playing that poorly before he got hurt, he has come back slow. There are no legitimate options to play in place of Lewis other than Culpepper. I wouldn't replace him with a AAAA vet, that doesn't help the team long term.
  9. I like having Wallner in there, see if he can continue to build off his last couple of games. I am not sure about sitting Lewis again, Gray is no more than replacement level. They need to see if he can work thru his struggles. We are not going anywhere this year.
  10. At some point, have some belief in the arms that you have developed as well. If this move is at the expense of Klein then I really don't know what they are doing. They have plenty of reclamation projects, move on from one of them if you make this move.
  11. He's not going to St. Paul, he will be in Cleveland tomorrow night.
  12. But how many reclamation projects do they need, they have 5 or 6 already in St. Paul and a couple on the major league roster. Churn thru those first rather than constantly acquiring more of the same.
  13. If that is true, why the need to trade for this guy. They are going to keep rotating in the AAAA types and washed up vets, I don't see much changing there.
  14. It will be probably be Klein that they send down. We can't have enough 30 something relievers that are washed up.
  15. I believe it was Falvey that advocated for the signing of Correa both times, the Pohlads just signed off on it. Whether they had to send money to complete the trade is unknown but I am not sure there was a huge market for Correa with that contract.
  16. You aren't going to get better production from Gray, Kredler or Arcia if they play every day.
  17. They have no other options for Lewis other than Culpepper. Gray and Kreidler looked ok in a very small sample size. I am starting to have my doubts about Lewis but it did look like he was doing better before he went on the IL. I don't think his defense is as bad as people on here say it is based on the eye test. He made a nice play coming in on a ball with a nice throw last night. Let him play this season on a regular basis and if he doesn't turn it around make a decision at the end of the season. But have a suitable replacement ready, not another AAAA player.
  18. And yet Clemens keeps getting regular AB's, he is not an everyday player.
  19. This is why I was hoping for a clean sweep of the front office, I am not sure if Zoll is any different than Falvey. It is never a bad thing to try and find an edge. But this organization is letting their analytics department run the baseball operations. They have been adding to the analytics staff and reducing scouting. They have an interesting definition of success, last year the Saints won 62 games. I realize it is about development in the minor leagues but if you are having success I would expect more wins and more impact on the major league club. This club needs to identify talent and develop that talent rather than trying constantly to be the smartest one in the room. Falvey had limited success in his nine years at the helm. Maybe all his ideas weren't as good as they think. We need fresh leadership to take an objective review of what is trulyworking and what isn't.
  20. How do you trade Buxton if he doesn't agree to it which at least with his public statements he doesn't want to be traded.
  21. Clemens had one good three week stretch last year and he might be in the middle of another. But there is no way he should be anymore than the 12th or 13th man on the roster and not being the regular first baseman.
  22. Falvey's actions were inconsistent with a rebuild. I have one example, another is tendering Larnach. That move made no sense if you are in a rebuild with all of our young outfielders.
  23. The Blue Jays just released Jimenez after 12 games, they didn't hang onto him for a full season or even a half season and hope that he has something left in the tank. This is what the Twins need to be doing, be more decisive.
  24. We don't know who is to blame for not following thru on the rebuild or if that was truly the plan. Josh Bell was signed at the same time it was announced that Tom was taking over as leader of the Twins. I am not sure if he had input at that time. But that signing does not indicate a full blown on rebuild. Falvey made no moves in the first two months of the offseason to indicate any plan he might have had. And the turmoil at the top is not an excuse. executives deal with that in every industry and they still make decisions for the best of the organization. Falvey sat on his hands.
