  1. Absolutely agree. What I am saying is that I don't think any of the guys on our roster (other than maybe Santana) are guys that any team is "set on getting". I don't think they are viewed as integral parts to the future success of their team which is why I think they will wait until the waiver deadline to attempt a cheaper deal if it presents itself. Keep in mind that the Twins have floated Mauer out on waivers just to see if he generated interest. They will almost certainly float a pile of guys out there this year.
  2. Name one of those guys that a team would say is a must have piece for them. I think they are willing to wait and if they fall to them, they fall to them. If not, no biggy. Santana is the only one that a contending team might want as an upgrade over the backend of their rotation.
  3. What if....they move none of them? What if no moves are made by the Twins? Every team out there knows that we will be putting a lot of guys out on waivers if we don't trade them today. They know they are in better position to negotiate a better deal in August than they are now. It's not like any of these guys are must have pieces for other teams. They can afford to wait.
  4. LOL! That needs to be played during the other teams BP. If we can pipe it into their locker room, do it...it's just sooooo bad!
  5. In that uniform, I'm offering to sit out...ouch! Hammy! DOH!
  6. I had to actually look that one up. Off the album Let's Knife! Play the entire album during warmups!
  7. I remember when they wore those...I hated the Sox even back then and I loved the fact that they had to wear shorts! LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Bring them back. Please! OK, so if you were going up to the plate against Sale, would you have "Cuts Like a Knife" as your walkup? Mack the Knife? You Brought A Knife To A Gunfight? Any other suggestions?
  8. So, if they used that criteria on the current staff, how many of them would still be on the team?
  9. Gents, I've opened up a new thread in which I am making my case for the Twins to overtake the Sox and move out of last place in the last weekend of the season.
  10. Yeah, not the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern...that sucked. Thinking comic book Green Lantern.
  11. My take on sabermetrics is that, while I love them and go stats crazy, I also recognize that they don't tell the entire story. There has to be a balance between the eyeball test and the stats.
  12. MLB Network just did a little round table on the Twins search for a new GM. Essentially, TR was a good guy, very respected...but the Twins were behind in terms of analytical stats. They were "old school". What they said was that the direction that the Twins go is going to be very telling on whether they embrace sabermetrics and all of the tools that are available to the teams.
  13. What message do you think it sends to the rest of the organization if they hire internally? What message do you think it sends to the rest of the organization if they hire externally?
  14. I agree...genious! If I you were in his shoes, wouldn't you do the same? Baseball team is losing...distance yourself from the baseball side. Team is profitable...associate yourself with the business side.
  15. If you think this organization needs a major shakeup, Kim Ng is the right person for the job. Some call her tenacious, others would call her ruthless. I don't think those are two words that have ever been used to describe TR.
  16. While I agree that money spent doesn't always equal success, I think we all know that good starting pitching is expensive and a key to success of a baseball franchise. The Twins system has not produced a front line starter for a long time, so it would be reasonable to expect that the talent would have to be acquired rather than developed. In the end, we will see, but my bet is that Antony is the guy and, if not him, another first time GM.
  17. I'll try to kill 3 birds with one stone - Why wouldn't an experienced GM want this job? Because of the handcuffs put on by the Pohlad family. I know they said there wasn't a budget, but I don't think it's a secret that the Pohlad's target is 52 percent of revenue for a salary base. That's actually not a bad target based on some other similar teams (throwing out Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees) and some other teams like Detroit (69 percent in 2015). The Twins were at 49 percent in 2015 and I haven't seen what this year is yet. However, when your revenues are 8th lowest in the league and are falling as any reasonable person would expect the Twins revenue to be, you can see where the handcuffs come into play. So, how do the Twins lure an experienced GM away from another team? Well, you either throw a pile of cash at them (not likely to happen), or you find another floundering franchise to pick off their GM (not a smart thing to do if you think the GM is part of the problem). So, perhaps I should have revised my statement by saying that no quality experienced GM is going to want the job.
  18. No experienced GM is going to want this job. It's either Antony or some other first time GM.
  19. Negative tone or not, I'm intrigued. I thought Butch Wynegar was a lot of hype without the game. I'd put him as a candidate. Doug Corbett? 68 percent save rate...ugh. Man the Twins had some bad years in there.
  20. The Twins would be crazy not to trade Suzuki. If they want him back next year, they will get him back as a starting catcher and pay him more than another team will pay for a backup. The Twins would be crazy to trade Buxton. We've just seen the tip of the iceberg on this kid and that kind of speed is game changing. It allows your corners to play a step or two closer to the line and turn doubles into singles. It's like having a SS with an extra step of range and a rocket for an arm. I'm in favor of trading any pitcher north of 30. Plouffe should be traded, but I don't see the market for him. He's going to be tough to find a spot for especially if the young guys like Vargas continue to produce. Dozier? I have no confidence in the FO getting good value for him. I'd keep him.
  21. Of course! Watched it when I was a kid.
  22. Sally Struthers...hmmm...wasn't she on Hollywood Squares a lot? Maybe that is what popped into your head. Perhaps George Gobel...never figured out what he actually did other than Hollywood Squares.
  23. As I age gracefully, I find myself being more and more disrespectful to telemarketers. I have not tried the "testicle support" line yet, but I imagine it going something like this: gocgo - "Hello" telemarketer (in appropriate accent) - "I am calling you from Windows technical support, are you near your computer?" gocgo - "Testicle support! Why would I need testicle support? I'll have you know that my testicles are just fine as they are! Honey! (calls to wife in background) This guy on the phone wants to support my testicles." Honey - "Tell him I've got it covered babe." gocgo - "What kind of a sick human being are you and what do my testicles have to do with the window? Your not some sick stalker wanting me to press them up against the window so you can take some tabloid picture are you?....say...that's feels kind of good" CLICK Generally, I use the Publishers Clearing House line and start screaming with excitement that I've won a million dollars every year for life. I get the whole family around the phone and they all scream at the guy until they hang up....(usually takes about 2 minutes). It's become a family bonding thing.
