  1. We are rooting for one team to sweep.
  2. Yeah, I know what your saying, but I can't think of one single pitch that I will remember at the end of the season that will stand out like that one.
  3. I'll be very curious to see if that one pitch...that one non strike call...will be the reason the Twins make the playoffs.
  4. Remember back in the old days when there were Sox fans around to argue with? Apparently, they no longer exist and we are forced to bicker among ourselves.
  5. Right now, the most troubling thing to me about Buck is his inability to get a bunt down. A player with his speed should really have that in his arsenal to get him thru the times when the stick is slumping.
  6. In my perfect world, the Yankees fall apart in September and miss the playoffs. Don't care who else makes it in with the Twins, but I think it would be hilarious if the Yankees, once again, miss the playoffs.
  7. I don't care how ugly it is, beating the White Sox always makes me smile.
  8. Yeah, but in fairness to Kurt, Duffey wasn't throwing anywhere near where Suzuki was setting up. Tough to frame an outside pitch when you are set up on the inside.
  9. But Buxton did score on a sac fly that many guys wouldn't have even been sent on.
  10. Whoa, whoa, whoa! I would argue that the ugly was behind the plate. CB Bucknor was horrible...not necessarily biased...just horrible. What's a strike? What's a ball? I felt like he was flipping a coin back there. I'm shocked that no one was thrown out. We survived a CB Bucknor game! CB is consistently voted as one of the worst umpires in the league. Joe West is still at the bottom of my list, but CB could give him a run for it.
  11. Looking at a comparison between the two teams: BA - .248, .251 OBP - .303, .305 SLG - .401, .380 Twins are the first number, Sox are the 2nd. Fairly even there, but the runs scored give the Twins a 564 to 493 advantage. Not a lot of pop in the Chicago lineup as the Twins have 65 more extra base hits than them, but they have 24 more hits than us. A bunch of singles hitters. Our pitchers have the worst BAA in the league at .272 with the Sox at .261 and our fielding percentages are nearly even at .986 and .984. So, anyone thinking that we will run away with this series should think again. Keep the ball in the park and make them hit a bunch of singles to score runs.
  12. Just read that Correa is out for the Astros.
  13. Sano needs a day off after hitting the catwalk? No way. Gotta be something else going on there.
  14. Texas hosts Baltimore while Tampa Bay hosts KC. Do you hope for a sweep in the Texas vs. Baltimore series? or some sort of a split?
  15. Astros are gonna be a tough match up. They hit a lot of dingers, they strike out a lot of hitters, and they steal a lot of bases. Given that we don't miss a lot of bats, have plenty of young bats who love to swing, and a catcher and pitching staff that give up plenty of stolen bases, I don't see this series going well for us.
  16. Why not keep Plouffe and play him at 1st base or keep him at 3rd and convert Sano to 1st? To me, Mauer is the odd man out. Tell me what team has a light hitting first baseman batting .260?
  17. As opposed to Michael Jackson's moon walk which did not include a moon or any mooning. Funny posts to start the morning off. Thanks for the chuckles! Now, on to more serious stuff. I'm of the opinion that any sort of a losing streak of around 6-7 games would pretty much doom any of the wildcard contenders other than the Yankees. If that happens to the Yankees, they'd be flirting with missing the playoffs depending on how other teams perform. So, the first order of business is to avoid extended losing streaks. As Crash Davis said - "A player on a streak has to respect the streak. You know why? Because they don't happen very often." The same applies for a team. From a glass half full perspective, you can see what would happen if a team goes on a 6-7 game winning streak based on what we saw when the Twins went on their recent tear. Granted, it happened to coincide with a couple of teams faltering, but if the Twins or another team were to go on a 6-7 game winning streak, they could easily create a 3 game cushion and then play .500 ball the rest of the way and make it in as a wildcard. Go Twins! Just keep playing solid ball.
  18. Why can't all 3 be true? I see Pelfrey gone. I don't see the Twins eating Nolasco's contract, but I could see them having to pay quite a bit of it and trade him or have him pitch from the pen to try to salvage some innings. I agree with them offering Milone arbitration as well. I don't see him getting traded though. They could use a lefty in the rotation.
  19. I think Texas has 23 games left at home and 16 on the road. Curiously, they are 28-30 at home but 36-29 on the road. If they were to continue that trend, they would finish 11-12 at home and 9-7 on the road to finish 20-19 and 84-78. So, 85 wins could get some team in in front of Texas.
  20. 8 games over .500 would definitely be enough to make me a happy baseball fan...not even thinking about "Playoffs! Playoffs!?"
  21. I have given up hope of a WC spot. Just looking to play out the year, stay competitive in games, and see improvement from some young guys.
  22. Win 1 of 3 and we have a .500 road trip. I'll take it. Go .500 on the road and win 2 of 3 at home and it's a good year.
  23. I've put away the hopes of playoffs. To quote Jim Mora - "Playoffs! Playoffs!?". Here is my goal. Finish above the White Sox. Above Detroit would be gravy. Please, please, please don't finish in last place. That's it. No more mention of wildcards or anything silly like that. I really don't see the bullpen being fixed anytime soon. There are other problems too with the rotation. The numbers are not good for 32+ year old pitchers and we've got plenty of them that are there or about to be there. Signing these guys to 4 year contracts is insane. So, I don't see much contribution coming up from Santana, Nolasco, Pelfrey (will we resign him?), or anyone else on the pitching staff that has hit the magic age when the skills take a sharp turn downward. As much as I like Sano, I really like watching Rosario play. He's got some fire. Bummed about Hicks injury. He is a physical specimen. The dude is big and can run really fast. I thought from the first time I saw him in spring training that he was the real deal and was really surprised how he struggled. Glad to see him finally realize his talent. Think about an outfield of Rosario, Buxton, and Hicks. All 3 with speed and great arms. Should be fun down the road.
