  1. When I look at the Twins shopping list which should just be bull pen arms, I'm not seeing much out there. Chapman...but we don't need a closer. So, how about this - we go after a starting pitcher. Whaaaaa? We have too many of those already! But what about moving Pelfrey to the BP? Would it tick him off? Sure. Is he gone after this year anyway? Probably. Is he better than some of the current BP arms? I think so. I don't think we need to get into the bidding war for Cueto, but there are some other quality arms out there who might improve both our rotation and our pen in one shot.
  2. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a blown save by the Detroit bullpen in this series as well.
  3. When I look at the stats, it looks like an edge to Detroit in the hitting department (possibly a push with Cabrera out). Pitching - not a big fan of ERA, so BAA is .269 vs. .264 (slight edge to them), and we have 46 errors vs. their 43. The pitching and fielding stats are both dependent on the scorekeeper, but I'll assume that the scorekeepers are equally unobjective. So, on paper, Detroit looks a little better....but paper doesn't win games. Given the stats and the tear that Detroit has been on, I'd take a split. Win tonight, and all bets are off. Go Twins!
  4. Anyone else think that Santana looks kinda like Janet Jackson in that picture?
  5. So then the question becomes, do you resign him? If so, what would you be willing to spend?
  6. Hey! It's his story. Let him tell it.
  7. Let me clarify - stud=potential as in prospect. It just depends on what the market offers. Teams that need another solid starter to compete for their division and make it into the post season are willing to pay. That said, the additional wild card spot has really thrown a wrench into the whole trade market at the deadline IMO.
  8. Keep in mind that he added a split finger this year that has been giving batters fits and adding to the ground ball outs. That said, I am a proponent of trading him at the deadline for the right piece. What is the right piece? Stud shortstop? Stud catching prospect? Potential ace? Dunno.
  9. What I would like to see is the percentage of changeups that the Twins pitchers are throwing this year compared to last year. It isn't a strike out pitch, but it is a ground ball inducing pitch and ground balls are good.
  10. Getting someone up with some pop would certainly allow for Plouffe to be moved to 3, but until that happens, the options for significant lineup changes are pretty limited.
  11. Dozier is great at leadoff. I wouldn't mess with that. If Hunter is your 3, they who is your 2? Plouffe is your cleanup and I don't see any other candidates for that.
  12. It's not that I disagree with removing Mauer from the 3 hole, but who are you going to put there?
  13. One of my favorite quotes - "Winning may teach you how to celebrate, but losing teaches you how to survive."
  14. Didn't we get Esco in that trade to the ChiSox?
  15. One more factor throwing a wrench into it all...the Twins are in contention for postseason play. Sure, it's early. Yes, it could all fall apart....but what if it doesn't? You don't want to start trading pieces away if we have a shot at the playoffs. It would be much simpler if the Twins were doing what we thought they would do after week 1.
  16. Hicks is up and will be given ample opportunity before the trade deadline to show whether he belongs or not. If not, I think he'll be traded. I don't see him passing thru waivers and the Twins would be foolish to risk it.
  17. Finally found one. Mariners on April 26.
  18. Have we won a game yet when the other team didn't commit an error? If nothing else, this is a capitalistic bunch and that's an improvement on it's own.
  19. The question over this homestand is - did the Twins win, or did the other teams lose? Oakland and Chicago looked awful on defense committing 11 errors across their 8 games. The Twins took advantage of the mistakes, so they deserve some credit, but I'm reserving judgement until we beat teams that play well. Keep in mind that the home stand started with Detroit taking 2 of 3 from us. We have hope, but it may be false hope. Let's see how the next 6 on the road go.
  20. Pleasantly surprised to be above .500. After the first week, I didn't expect this, but the White Sox are just what we needed. It brings a smile to my face to know that our expectations to this point were low and have been exceeded while their expectations were sky high and have been dashed. As long as the Sox are under us in the standings, I'm pretty happy.
  21. Remember when we let Alex Presley go in favor (and I think that word fits) of Jason Bartlett? Houston scooped him up and he was gone. Alex Presley, in my mind is the equivalent of the two CF that we have now. Would we be better? Maybe. He's a career .259 hitter and I can't imagine him playing worse CF. Would we have a respectable place holder for Buxton/Hicks/Rosario? Yup. Water under the bridge, but a bad decision can haunt for years.
  22. 4-6. .500 in reach. Is there hope, or am I just being stupid optimistic?
  23. For me, it isn't the lack of hitting that has me thinking the worst. Hitting usually normalizes as the season goes on barring injuries. The lack of basic defense concerns me the most along with the poor pitching. Not scoring runs gets you beat. Not playing good defense when your pitching is bad gets you killed. Nobody wants to watch a game that is over by the 6th inning unless it is kids who only play 6 innings.
  24. I liked the signing of Phil Hughes because he is the right age to sign a guy to a 4 year contract. I hated the Santana signing. A look at nearly every pitcher will show that very, very few get better after 30 and most fall off a cliff at 32. No matter if they are a starting pitcher or a reliever. TR may not like advanced metrics but he can't deny that age does matter...unless you are on PED's (Roger Clemens improved after 32)....oh, wait...
