  1. Yep. Understand. But I think the mindset is still that Johan was a rule 5 guy and who knows what other treasures are buried there? I'd be curious to see how many rule 5 guys actually stick around for more than a cup of coffee. It seems like we keep rolling the dice in a losing game.
  2. I think one of the problems is that the Twins keep trying to catch lightning in a bottle...twice. Johan Santana, a 2 time Cy Young winner, was a rule 5 pickup. It seems like each year we try to recreate that success and, in order to do that, we need to use up a bullpen spot. The question is whether that bullpen spot is worth the chance of catching lightning in a bottle again. I think I got my answer last night.
  3. The season is long. It wears on players. It's a grind. I can understand going to see family over a break...Vegas? Not so much. It will be there after the season is over. The Twins are just going to have to bear down and gut it out. At the beginning of the season, I said I just wanted them to be competitive. Competitive baseball is fun to watch. The blowouts make me want to turn it to one of those bachelor reality shows.. Lately, "reality TV" has been more entertaining than reality baseball. At some point, they have to get sick of losing, suck it up, and compete in every game. Right now, they show up expecting to lose.
  4. Did you watch Buxton's first attempt at every level he has been at so far? He looked overmatched at each level. Give him some time in the show and he will adapt and excel.
  5. I read the ESPN preview of this game and I think I was about 3/4 of the way down before I figured out who the Yankees were actually playing. Nice of them to mention us.
  6. Beard oil...now we're talking. Maybe a little brylcream in the hair to go with it and the next thing you know the ball is hitting the mascot.
  7. Nicely done for those of us too lazy to actually look up the rules.
  8. At this point, I just want the innings to go fast so I can watch the Hannah and her horse commercials.
  9. Never really liked the full beard look for pitchers. Catchers it works for but pitchers I just always wonder what's living in there...seems like a great place to hide pine tar.
  10. Would have rather seen Hicks take an angle on that ball.
  11. Speaking of first baseline plays, did anyone see that play in Oakland when Rosario?? avoided a tag by running/diving to first only outside of the running lane? Thought he got away with one. Gibson really making it tough on himself.
  12. I disagree. Where's the bag? In fair territory. Where do you have to run to touch it? Just saying....
  13. Unfortunately for Joe West, he has built himself a reputation as a poor ump (consistently voted in the bottom 5) who seems to enjoy making cowboy calls rather than consulting with his peers.
  14. It does seem that Joe West loves to take the opportunity to insert himself into the middle of the game whenever there is a borderline call. I prefer umps to stay on the outskirts of the game. Bottom line is a guy just got rewarded for a terrible throw.
  15. Ugh! As much as I like Tulo, that's a Maueresk type of contract to take on for the next 5 years. Health is a concern. Gonna have to pass.
  16. "Do you believe in Bigfoot? Because I do."....wonder what he'd have done if you had said yes? Anyway, here's to a second half of meaningful baseball for the Twins. It's been a long time coming. I'm interested to see what we do at the trade deadline and just as interested to see what Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland do. Let's face it, the Royals are gonna be around for a while and I think we will too given our team age and farm system. I would love to see Chris Sale traded out of the division, but I think that is asking too much.
  17. If I remember right, Dozier's home runs dropped off last year in the 2nd half. Pretty tough to maintain this pace.
  18. ...and then there's always Joba Chamberlain.
  19. Never been a fan of Hawkins' laser straight fast ball. It tends to leave the park in a hurry...followed by the fans.
  20. Yeah, I keep forgetting about the Santana postseason ban...either that or I don't dare to think that far ahead.
  21. Not sure that Latos is that much of an upgrade with a 1.31 WHIP. Capps I can get more excited about and Ramos...of course there are those that will be afraid of anyone named Capps. A dominant lefty would be nice, but that's asking too much. Hopefully O'Rourke will be that guy. Thompson definitely isn't and Duensing either.
