  1. Diuretics are often used as masking agents for PEDs and to get flush them out of the system faster. It may also be that he was trying to use a diuretic to simply lose weight quickly before a weigh in. Papi should worry about Papi...kind of like Cano is just worried about Cano.
  2. I don't want to pee on anyone's parade here, but I posted on another link a quote in SI from a rival scout and as I remember it went something like this: "If Nolasco is in the Twins rotation, then their rotation stinks" That's pretty brutal. It's also interesting that I see people wanting Plouffe traded and Sano moved to 3rd. I get that, but the market for 3rd basemen wasn't high to begin with this offseason and Plouffe is not viewed outside of the Twins organization the way he is viewed by the Twins. Outside of the Twins, he seems to be viewed as just OK. Not an upgrade from what teams already have. So, trading him isn't going to get much back. I really thought they would move him to left field, put Sano at 3rd, and move Rosario to right, but I understand the reasons for not doing that too.
  3. An awful lot of arm chair GM's giving their generous advice out for freeeeeee!
  4. A quote from SI concerning the Twins. This was written by a "rival scout". "If Ricky Nolasco is in their rotation, then their rotation stinks". Ouch!
  5. 6. Very valid points. Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those guys that has been calling for Kepler for the last year. He's raw. On the flip side, Santana really crumbled when criticized in the media last year. There were articles written about his bruised psyche and how it affected his game. That worries me about him. Hopefully, he can ignore all that and just play.
  7. Ugh...I know Santana is out of options, and I know the ST sample size is pretty small, but what about him makes the Twins want to bring him up north? I can't say that CQ or Sweeney have really set themselves apart from Arcia or Santana, but once again, a pretty small sample size. Honestly, I feel like I'm looking a the current presidential candidates and searching for the box labeled "None of the Above". I don't think Santana is a viable option for pinch hitting but he is for pinch running. Arcia offers some pop in his bat off the bench. So, I guess I'd take him and maybe Kepler up north if you put a gun to my head. I know, I know, Kepler has options, but if I'm looking for the strongest team, I take Kepler north over Santana because he offers a better stick and decent speed. I think Santana will slide down thru the waiver wire. CQ, Sweeney...don't care. Didn't really like the signings in the first place because I don't see them in the Twins future at all.
  8. I view baseball projections kind of like all star wrestling...purely entertainment. Think about how many injuries occur during the season. No way to project that and then think about how many guys have stuff that is nagging and they try to play thru it only to see their performance suffer. Project all you want boys but the beauty of baseball is the unpredictability of it. One of my favorite lines from Bull Durham - "Know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. 25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points, okay? There's 6 months in a season, that's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week - just one - a gorp... you get a groundball, you get a groundball with eyes... you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week... and you're in Yankee Stadium." -- Crash Davis
  9. Yeah, I think it's worth a flyer, but I don't see it as anything more than that. I agree that it's not likely to pan out.
  10. A couple of notes - first, I've read posts saying that CQ is a low risk, high reward signing. Dunno that I'd call CQ high reward. His best year from the plate was 2008 - .288/.394/.985. Career line of .252/.347/.831. IF...and it's a big if...he can hit his career average, it's a decent signing. Recent stats would indicate those expectations are unrealistic. Second, I've read that CQ is an insurance policy in case Park struggles. If he's an insurance policy, I've got some great universal coverage policies to peddle to the Twins. Third, I've read the CQ was signed to "light a fire" under some of the other guys - Arcia, etc. Look, either you have it or you don't. If you need to have a fire lit under you, you don't have it. Self motivated people are far more successful than those who need a kick in the pants and usually pass up people who need a kick in the pants because the boss's leg gets tired.
  11. Agree with savvy. Feel like I'm looking at the candidates for the presidency and, like that decision, looking for the "None of the above" box.
  12. "Suspect at best"...yeah, it was bad. "he is capable of approaching .300 with good power if he doesn't try to crush every pitch"...agree, but I think the issue was that he still tried to crush every pitch even when they tried to change that approach. Not listening to your boss tends to lead to being forgotten at promotion time.
  13. I know that she's the reason I can't pitch.
  14. The only guys I'd consider trading are Nolasco (obviously, we would have to pay some of the contract) and Arcia. At this point, Arcia doesn't fit on this team. We don't need a DH at this point. Arcia in the outfield is a defensive liability that his bat doesn't make up for. So, other than a lefty bat that will swing for the fence and occasionally put one there, Arcia really doesn't bring much to the table.
  15. I think there is a chance that May is the closer by the end of the year. The wheels have started to wobble on Perk.
  16. ...if you don't think about it. Also, Esco is one of those guys that makes the clubhouse and enjoyable place to be through a long season. Sort of the glue that holds the team together.
  17. How do you guys feel that Hicks will do under the scrutiny of the NY media/fans? I don't see this being a good fit for him. I don't mind the trade, I think it opens the door for Sano at 3rd if we move Plouffe to left and then gives the DH to Park. It makes sense from that aspect.
  18. There's an incremental value to having an ace. Now, instead of Gibson going against another clubs #1, he's going against their 2 or their 3 if Santana is the 2. It can have a cascading effect on your pitching rotation. That said, don't trade for it in the off season. If you trade for an ace, do it in July.
  19. The big thing for me is that the Yankees are out of the playoffs....all is right in the world.
  20. The Royals are not looking baffled by Perk.
  21. Turn out the lights, the parties over.
  22. I do not have a good feeling about us winning this very good game.
  23. I think KC has owned our bullpen.
  24. Me thinks your dreaming of a road sweep in Motown.
