  1. I really want the Twins to get with it and trade Morneau and Doumit now. A-ball b-level prospects don't bother me as a return (esp. since they could just resign Morneau in the offseason if they really want to do so). This opens up first base for a Parmelee/Colabello platoon for the rest of the season, at least. It also clears up DH, which is going to be a good opening at some point next season when Arcia, Plouffe, and Sano are all on the roster. Anyway, Brian Dozier is going to have to prove that he can play acceptable defense at SS and 3B for him to be that kind of utility player after the ascent of Rosario (earliest would be June). Florimon, Beresford, Escobar, and Santana are next in line for SS (and some 2B), though Beresford isn't playing really at all there this year (seems quite silly). Escobar and Santana are huge question marks right now. Santana hasn't figured out AA yet, so I don't see him doing anything else but starting 2014 in New Britain. Escobar could be Carroll's replacement at the beginning of 2014, but I don't see much value in him whatsoever. Florimon is overall an adequate player right now. If he improves next year, then he is very valuable for the time being.
  2. It is true that the Twins need more Latin coaches across the board (including the majors). Much ado about nothing, here, though. It's good to have players who think they are good in this organization. It's good to have players who want to murder the baseball.
  3. Haha. Well, where are those two teams playing yesterday and today. Maybe he was simply the best to get there quickly. Sometimes this kind of thing is going to happen with catchers, especially. They weren't going to move Pinto up for two days. Of course they COULD just dump Fryer and promote Pinto. But that would merely be the smart thing to do.
  4. He is nowhere close to good as a defensive catcher and is definitely below average as a RF. And no one "plays DH." Everyone can do that. Not to mention that Doumit's OPS has dropped 100 points since last season. He is a player clearly on the decline and should be traded for whatever the Twins can get for him, basically. Herrmann and Pinto are the new guys for 2014 and beyond.
  5. First grand slam for the Twins this year, I think, and it comes off the bat of Chris Herrmann! That slam gives him 8 RBI this year in only 25 plate appearances. Herrmann's defense behind the plate is probably average when all is said and done.
  6. A hot start in Fort Myers was cooled off by one 0-for-4 game. It's good that the Twins are starting to slowly clear the logjam situation in the outfield, but more work needs to be done. I would expect Williams to get up to a full season in Fort Myers and then we will see what his future looks like from there.
  7. Mejia just keeps rolling along and has put up good July numbers overall. This is a great thing to see from someone who looks like an actual shortstop right now. Sometimes it may be worth seeing what players are able to do when thrown into the fire. Mejia is demonstrating that it can work out for the best. Season stats: 264 PA, .338/.390/.385, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 0 homers, 22 walks, 20 strikeouts, 14 stolen bases and 9 times caught stealing. Just 3 errors in 139 chances at shortstop.
  8. Not much to report in Herrmann's limited time back with the Twins. 0-4 while catching. I really hope that trading Doumit is on the horizon.
  9. Off subject, but, for whatever insane reason, the Twins were interested in Jake Arrieta and now are interested in Bud Norris. I cannot understand at all.
  10. Central Notes: Peavy, Gallardo, K-Rod, Tigers, Pirates: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com "While there has been a great deal of speculation about Justin Morneau and other Twins, rival executives haven’t sensed a big push from Minnesota to make deals, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter)."
  11. And he improved both his walks and his strikeouts since advancing a level this year.
  12. He turns 22 in October and his K/rate is not *that* bad. And why worry so much about k/rate around here? TD peeps seem to focus more on how terrible the k/rates are for Twins sluggers in the system more than they do about the poor k/rates the pitchers have!
  13. Oh, and Phil Hughes? Why are we considering that, again? How about Dan Camarena and Bryan Mitchell for Morneau and his salary?
  14. The Twins are not actively pushing for a trade. That is rather silly, in my view. If they really want him for the future, they can just sign him in the offseason. Meanwhile, give him a chance to compete this year for some team. There are mid-level prospects in various organizations.
  15. That's an average of 40.2. Pretty good!
  16. If things went well this season, the Twins would have this payroll anyway, or would potentially being adding to it if they were buyers at the deadline. So, given that, it would appear wise to use the money to at least get 1-3 quality players back (assuming Morneau, Doumit, and Burton could be moved--it could be three quality players). Payroll is going down in the immediate future. If the Twins had a whole bunch of money committed to players beyond this year, it would be a different story.
  17. I hope that the Twins are telling teams that they are willing to pay the rest of 2013 salaries for all players they are looking to trade (Morneau and Burton being the most salary-relevant players). If teams are "cooling" on Morneau because of the $6ish million left this year . . . . come on and just pay the damn money.
  18. Rodriguez is 27 at AA and has an OPS of .766. There is ZERO reason to hold back Vargas because of that guy.
  19. Congratulations to JD Williams on his promotion to Fort Myers. It is very much deserved and will be a new challenge for him.
  20. Wow, great article. I think the move might have saved Grimes' chances to climb the ladder.
  21. I wasn't surprised by the verdict, but have been surprised by some reactions to it. How anyone honestly could believe that Zimmerman didn't cause this killing and thus deserves some kind of punishment is completely beyond me. If Trayvon Martin were white, Zimmerman would be in prison RIGHT NOW. If you don't believe that, you need to re-evaluate how you think about things in America.
  22. Perkins is the one guy in that bullpen to hold onto, in my view. He can be dominant for years to come and serves as the anchor while other guys come through as middle relievers and setup men after the Twins hopefully trade those players away NOW.
  23. Thielbar, Tonkin, Achter, Watts, and Hauser (to name five) can replace the bullpen soon enough (with Pressly and Albers).
  24. Doumit, Fien, Duensing, Morneau, Burton, Carroll should and probably could be traded. Correia, Pelfrey, Wilingham, and Plouffe either can't or shouldn't (Plouffe) be traded. No one is taking Roenicke. No one is taking Butera. Swarzak could be an add-in to some deal for one of the first six guys since he is a major league pitcher. The Twins should and will keep Perkins. There are 5+ years of goodness there for him.
  25. Walker must be getting his promotion soon. I think they must be looking at Fort Myers and seeing who deserves promotion to AA. I am happy for the players promoted though. Walker will be next. Polanco could sit in low-A with an obvious start at Fort Myers next year. yes, I wouldn't mess around and I would promote him with Walker in the next few weeks. Some E-Town players need to show up and be worthy of A-ball first, though.
