  1. True. I didn't mean my post to sound that critical. Sorry. I didn't word that too well.
  2. Good article, summing up the situation. After this season, we are looking at 2 top 5-6 prospects in all of baseball.
  3. Half of that will happen soon. The second half is more like E-Town than Cedar Rapids.
  4. We can honestly **** talk Joe Benson all we want, but I would rather chance him than deal with this Clete Thomas nonsense. I have said this elsewhere, but I guarantee that Benson would have been better than Hicks in April and early May while Hicks got the appropriate AAA time to warm up to the big leagues. Benson should have been promoted to AAA in late July of 2011, but that near .900 OPS wasn't good enough, apparently, to the experts. The Twins have been bad for Revere, Benson, and Parmelee with rushed September call-ups and an infatuation with ST stats. Oh, and and Hicks. Promote when they start to excel, don't repeat when unneeded, and do NOT skip a level. That is what I would do.
  5. No surprise there, given the draft.
  6. Morales needs to be protected. As does Danny Ortiz. It will be talent that finally pushes non-talented Butera away. Beresford does not have Hardy's arm right now, but he is getting bigger. I am still quite shocked that Beresford is NOT playing short when it is clear that Santana can't handle the position. Santana could be a great second baseman. Anyway, with the rise of Rosario, it will be nice to think that instead of Escobar (I was RIGHT about him) and Florimon (this will not last, though I was a defender of him going into this season) the Twins will be able to have Rosario, Santana, Beresford, and Dozier to choose from soon. In legitimate days of 12 or even 11 pitchers (haha) this could be very good.
  7. I messed up, Oldgoat. I know. I thought about it before posting. Anyway. Officially done. Smacked.
  8. Mejia has seen limited playing time in the past week. Now with Sano and Rosario gone, he may find a place in the infield to settle on. Still with a .781 OPS in a supposedly above his head league.
  9. This is good for Bremer. Again, I would like Parker, Nick, Aaron, John, and Seth.
  10. And he doubled tonight. Good god. What are you even talking about? Full stop. Over.
  11. This should be both the first and LAST response to you: No.
  12. Beresford will be the starting SS if he can hit in the majors for a Florimon-esque line. He is a young JJ Hardy defensively. Santana needs to move to second and that is clear to everyone. It will be like Dozier moving there, but better. Guaranteed. And we can move away from the offensive obsession with the middle infield. The Twins currently need such offensive production. With Hicks, Arcia, Sano, and Buxton, it isn't going to matter.
  13. Buxton and Sano are going to be All-Stars for years to come. Morales has been profiled by Seth Stohs for years now. Knowing is about actually researching. I am not sure what to make of this blog post. There are a bunch of things stated with little support or detail.
  14. Mauer was interviewed on ESPN radio today and he said there was no new approach to his hitting.
  15. Borbon hasn't been good this year at all. He's basically Brandon Boggs.
  16. Well, yeah. I am all for promotion when players are just past their stride at a level, but when players are repeating levels and then SKIPPING levels (Parmelee, Dozier and Revere--for the most part, also apply here) something is wrong with the thinking in terms of development. It's terrible. Who can skip a level when it comes to AA to the majors? Sano and Buxton and that's probably it. Arcia basically did and he is the borderline case. And what's true about those three? They didn't repeat levels at all! Boggs was going to be a .650-.700 OPS guy, likely. Not worthy of actual real MLB time, but certainly a better risk than Hicks. Hicks could have used 200 PAs in AAA. I just don't get it. But now, I don't think demotion does any good whatsoever, especially when the Twins got rid of everybody else!
  17. Benson was "flopping" in a place Hicks had never even been, Jokin. I do not like going outside the organization to find replacement players. Hicks will end up being perfectly fine and will be a RF anyway by some point in 2015 with Buxton coming. I am not worried there. I saw Borbon make a ridiculously dumb defensive play last week for the Cubs. No thanks.
  18. Other than Richardson, the best healthy option is Herrmann and you don't mention him. I am serious about this. He was an athlete who got moved to C and LF from SS. He has some athleticism and just will need some CF practice.
  19. I agree and honestly, who cares about Clete Thomas going forward? If Chris Herrmann is an adequate and ultimately 3rd CF, that is a nice advance for Herrmann in his career as then a C and a utility outfielder.
  20. Also, call me whatever you want, but I bet a lot of da moneys that Joe Benson would have been better in April than Hicks was, and Hicks would have benefited from a month or more in AAA. Boggs would have been better too. It's pretty damn remarkable that the Twins went from Span, Revere, Hicks, Mastro, Benson, and Thomas, to just Hicks and Thomas AFTER adding Brandon Boggs into the mix in the offseason. 7 guys down to 2. If they had a short leash on Benson I am not sure why they didn't keep Boggs around. And now Thomas is going to force the hand of the Twins because it ain't going to go well for him. Who on earth at this point of the season would be thinking: "please WILKIN RAMIREZ get back to being healthy" or "Antoan Richardson, hell yeah, join this team"???
  21. There is no way to judge how Jackson would have been in Target Field. Wrigley is a very different place.
  22. Yes, Hicks was not the guy, and I still think that even Brandon Boggs could have filled in with Mastro hurt. But after a certain point when Hicks started to get it slowly but surely there is no way that he should be demoted. Think of it this way: If Joe Mauer got off to such a terrible start of .075 or whatever after a three-four weeks, Mauer's average would be up to about .260 right now. Hicks is not a .330 hitter. He likely is a .260 hitter and so a player like that is going to take awhile to make his batting average appear at all respectable.
  23. The power numbers are still in decline but the OBP was .429 over the past week. Also, in the game on Monday, Williams advanced Buxton over to third by pulling over on a ball that was on the other half of the plate. I get a sense that Williams has done that more than a few times this year. And, as they should, the Twins like that sort of thing (as the big league club really needs this fundamental skill). Tom Kelly commented on it during the game. I still expect Williams to be moving with Buxton (and Hicks) to Fort Myers.
  24. Herrmann had a big day in the second game on Sunday, going 3-4 with a 2 rbi double. This year he has 15 plate appearances, 12 at bats, 3 runs scored, a double, a homer, 4 rbi, 2 walks, no strikeouts, and a sacrifice. Currently that all amounts to a 1.405 OPS. Herrmann played 11 games in CF in 2010 for Fort Myers. He is a good athlete (SS in high school) and can probably fill-in adequately if the Twins reward his hot bat and give him time out there or after Clete Thomas continues to be completely unable to hit major league hitting.
  25. Seth, when was the last time that the end-of-the-season A+ squad was made up of 6-8 players that started in A-??? I have to think Buxton, Hicks, Williams, and Walker are almost guaranteed to end in Fort Myers. Melotakis probably should eventually. And there are likely a few other pitchers as well.
