  1. This was one of a number of recent rational comments in this thread.
  2. (I am slamming my head against the wall right now) Not sure what hurts worse, literally doing that, or this conversation. For one, my mentioning of Doumit and Hicks . . . has nothing to do with Hicks playing catcher (it's rather insulting and ridiculous and red herring-throwing that a point gets belittled and you do not bother to in any way interpret what could possibly be meant). Doumit has played right field, has he not? If Doumit were traded away magically in Shane's fantasy (rational) world--with a healthy Mauer and Herrmann--I guarantee you that the callus to replace him start and stop with Chris Parmelee and Aaron Hicks (IMAGINE this: Thomas or Ramirez moves to right to fill Doumit's spot and lo and behold . . . ! Hicks replaces Doumit on the roster by playing CF!!!! --Was that really so difficult, or was it just more fun to make a Hicks-as-catcher comment?
  3. Learning to hit right-handed pitching from the right side is going to be a major adjustment. Why on earth do we want Hicks going through a major adjustment in 2014? That's another guaranteed lost season for him, or at least half a season . . . if it even works out at all in any way that makes him better from the right side than the left side. Here's an idea: admit that the Twins really messed with him and his rather natural path of development . . . one damn level at a time, which isn't such a crazy idea! He was AAA prepared for major league baseball, and he probably would have been only around a .700 OPS with a full season at AAA. I am going to expect a .700 OPS with the full season with the Twins in 2014.
  4. I still think The Sopranos is the best drama ever. The Wire is right there. Six Feet Under hit pretty well much of the time. Dexter, True Blood, The Tudors, Rome, etc. are all good but are not written at that kind of level of dominance. There is no either/or with TS or TW.
  5. Doumit has been taking at bats away from Parmelee, Herrmann, Colabello, and Hicks just on a basic level, USAF Chief. Is he actually better than or worth more going forward in the future? CLEARLY, not. Now add in at bats for callus like Pinto, Romero, or Escobar, for example. I don't get your stubbornness about a few different issues. It just seems crazy to me.
  6. Good article. Obviously Travis Harrison is not going to be the starting 1B in 2015, but this was pretty good otherwise. In fact, I think the Twins should try to trade Harrison pronto.
  7. Well it will be interesting to see where Buxton, Rosario, Sano, Arcia and Hicks will fit around Mauer (note: I see no other good lineup alternative by August of next year that doesn't have those 6 as the top 6 in the lineup) Maybe: Buxton, CF Mauer, C Sano, 3B Arcia, DH Rosario, 2B Hicks, RF with some combo of Dozier, Plouffe, Parmelee, Herrmann, Pinto, Florimon at LF, SS, and 1B/C? Platoons ought to come into play, but these first six seem untouchable to me. Plao
  8. Jason Kubel can be a DH for 3 or so years with solid production. Boston might be a good spot for 2014 and beyond.
  9. They aren't rebuilding at all. They sign stop-gap pitchers that can't be traded instead of investing in FAs to keep if successful or to trade for value. There is straight-up cheapskating going on. Full stop. And, on top of that, there seems to be a weird PR thing about trading long-standing players or players who "LOVE" the Twins (Morneau and Doumit, respectively). I still can't get my mind around this Morneau thing. He is a FREE AGENT to be signed by somebody anyway. Yet they won't pay his salary to get some Sulbaran-lite prospect? So they just pay his 2013 salary . . .
  10. Who is Doumit taking ABs from? Well, Chris Parmelee is down in AAA. That's a start. I don't even understand this question? The answer is obvious. There are others beyond Parmelee. I think the Escobar reference was just to make a point, by the way. There is no value in playing Ryan Doumit. Sorry.
  11. That was highly informative. Thanks.
  12. Has it even started yet? Willingham, Doumit, Morneau, Correia, Pelfrey . . .
  13. Here's to sucking at predicting this and being happy with a loaded 7.
  14. Yeah, I am surprised that he has been this completely terrible. I thought NBR would have benefitted him somewhat. Wow.
  15. No one in their right mind is going to claim Willingham. (that worked for Butera)
  16. They went basically all out with this group. Meyer was a lock and Achter was definitely the leading bullpen candidate. I thought that they might want to push Kepler. After that, I didn't consider May's innings issue, I am surprised about Rosario, really surprised about Buxton, and forgot about Zach Jones as a possible inclusion until about an hour or so ago while I was going about starting my new prospect list. The Twins get two A-level players in.
  17. The salary, Duensing, and two of the first three would likely do it.
  18. Well they messed around significantly with Parmelee pre-2013 and then gave up on him in favor of players like DOUMIT this year. Also, I do think that it is quite possible that a Parmelee/Plouffe platoon in RF or at 1B next year could be part of the solution. Plouffe hits lefties exceptionally well, and Parmelee hits righties acceptably at the moment. It's feasible that they combine for an .780-.800 OPS next year in a platoon.
  19. There you go. Doumit. What is the love affair there? I respect him and I respect that he *loves* the Twins (so does Pelfrey . . . dear god), but that OPS has dropped 80 points from last year, his catching defense is still declining, and his OF defense is Kubelesque. Not to mention that AGE thing.
  20. Is a power hitter at first that necessary if you have one at third? I know you are being flip, but "catch throws somewhat consistently" does not sound good in the slightest. I can see Mauer being Morneau-esque at scooping throws, he has good height, and he is quicker than Morneau. Mauer has made some good plays in his time at first. I don't want to sit here and undervalue defense at first and overvalue defense at third.
  21. Haha, maybe the Twins can ship them Correia and offer to pay the rest of his contract! Milwaukee gets a 5th starter for free!
  22. Well someone has to play RF on a regular basis, or LF post Buxton-Hicks being together (unless Arcia improves significantly). I do think that Parmelee and Colabello are going to be bench guys, but I would still like to see them playing for the Twins on a regular basis. Somehow the Twins weren't willing to just pay Morneau's damn contract and trade him (no excuse for this).
  23. Keep in mind that there is value in taking the salary from Milwaukee. I would start with Travis Harrison, DJ Baxendale, and Luke Bard.
  24. How did they do that, I ask? The verdict is in on Parmelee and Colabello, then?
  25. It's just this season, though. Something has been wrong, clearly, this year. I would still take the chance.
