  1. Yeah, it just isn't working. Go figure.
  2. By the way, this game is the "free game" of the day on mlbtv for those who don't pay for it. I might have to BE PAID to watch this one though. They should have one of those each day too.
  3. Did the anointed one, Alex Presley, make a boo-boo? I am waiting on mlbtv to stop sucking at the moment.
  4. I made the mistake of not drinking through last night's game. I am not making the same mistake today.
  5. E. Santana 3/48, Phil Hughes 2/18, J. Santana 1/2 with 3 in incentives and a big option. Holy hell that maxes out at $30 million for 2014. Imagine that!
  6. I thought I posted a response to this last night, but maybe not. Anyway, Parmelee, Colabello, Pinto, and Hicks better be with the Twins out of the gate. Yes, I said Hicks. And no one mentioned Beresford as the DH, but Santana as the DH. Santana is going to have to show that he can play SS or he is going to have to be traded (and I don't think that is such a terrible idea).
  7. Anyone know how many foul tips to the head catchers average per year? Someone, somewhere, has to have found that out.
  8. Nick, without looking back at the rest of my post, I thought I said that the Twins should spend *now* for 2015 in mind given the fact that those prospects will be ready to go. I also meant to distinguish between position player prospects and pitching prospects, and the clear discrepancy in number of viable prospects for that 2015 mark. So the Twins need to spend that $30 million (and could do it on E. Santana, Phil Hughes, and J. Santana). And not one year deals.
  9. HAHAHAHA! Given it another 6 inning, 3 earned run start . . . you know a quality start . . .
  10. I don't see the mystery. He has never been able to be successful immediately after any jump, though the move to AA was a bit different (I will grant that, but before that . . . ). Skipping over AAA altogether and then being put into the leadoff position? I have asked this elsewhere . . . I really want to know how many players in recent baseball history have ever skipped a level to get to MLB and then been the leadoff hitter immediately (and being the leadoff hitter requires pitch recognition!!!!!). People have made way too much out of this season. April was REALLY bad, but after that there was nothing shocking whatsoever given the circumstances.
  11. I will be angry if Pinto, Colabello, Parmelee, and Hicks aren't playing for the Twins on opening day 2014. There is ZERO reason to manage an organization otherwise. The opening day lineup (and keeping in mind changes that are rational) is this: Brian Dozier, 2B Joe Mauer, C Oswaldo Arcia, RF Trevor Plouffe, 3B Aaron Hicks, CF Chris Parmelee, 1B Josmil Pinto, DH Chris Herrmann, LF Pedro Florimon, SS (Mastroianni and NOT Presley, hopefully, Escobar, Colabello, and somebody else will round out the 25-man roster.
  12. There have always been caution flags about Pinto's defense, but ALWAYS these end up to be assumptions. Look back at what Seth said about him in 2011. The defense was supposedly questionable, but then he performed. I will say that Pinto is surpassing what Parmelee did both in AA and in the 2011 callup. Pinto is legitimate, at least legitimate enough to help make Doumit a bye-bye. He is definitely a better defensive catcher than Doumit. The Twins may now end up having the best overall defensive catching for 2014 with Mauer (very above average), Herrmann (above average), and Pinto (average).
  13. 2015 is going to be the first full season of the Buxton-Mauer-Sano trio with Arcia, Rosario, Pinto, Hicks, and Dozier in support. It is also the first full year of the likely trio of Gibson, Meyer, and . . . . May . . . with . . . support? Something looks good and something looks fairly dubious. Getting this all ready to go in 2014 for 2015 seems like a damn good idea to me, so for the Twins to not at least TRY to spend $90 million next year would be terrible. $30 million easily acquire E. Santana and Hughes.
  14. Molitor is not going to be a manager. I don't get how his named gets bandied about. The Twins are going to look at their own managers in the system or they are going to look at the BENCH COACH on the big league club right now.
  15. Kaz and Feldman still scare me. I guess Hughes should too? The Twins need to get into a position where Correia goes further and further down towards being the 5th starter (and NOT because of a dramatic drop off in his numbers). I still think that Gibson is a guy who would immediately do that in 2014 (maybe I am naive). Other than that there would be a return of Deduno and the re-emergence of Diamond as being basically similar producers as Correia. Hopefully. And then there's Worley (seriously, what the hell happened there?). So there's Gibson and then fifth starters, the best best of which may be Correia. I would put E. Santana and Hughes (well above and just above, respectively) above him though. Signing those two would please me a great deal. Try three years for Ervin and two for Phil.
  16. I get a little scared (no, more than a little scared) when I start seeing people talk about the Twins going after any FA who aren't starting pitchers. All efforts and all that sweet, sweet Pohlad money needs to go to starting pitchers on the market first. Wait until 2015? Why? It would be nice to not sign anyone to a mere one-year deal this offseason so that they are still around in 2015, sure. As far as first base goes . . . Mauer is going to get ample time there. Parmelee and Colabello can platoon the rest of the time (by the way, Colabello's power doesn't seem to be going anywhere so he could fairly easily provide double digit bombs next year even in a limited role). I have to think that Rosario isn't going to be with the Twins until June at the earliest, so they can still role out Florimon and Dozier and have that excellent defense in place. After that, working a Rosario/Dozier platoon (don't start with me USAChief . . . . .!) for a bit to get Rosario acclimated in June and July isn't such a bad thought either. And Dozier can either move over to SS (????) or Rosario can DH a bit, or Dozier can backup at SS and 3B (????) when not playing 2B. And DH? Well, even if Willingham and Doumit are gone, there are other bats like Pinto's, Colabello's Arcia's, Mauer's, and Plouffe's to put there. So . . . back to that dang starting pitching . . .
  17. I took risks on Phil Hughes on my fantasy team back in 2007 and 2008. He owes me (the Twins). I mean if we are talking Pavano money or Pavano money plus inflation, then that is a great signing. I don't mind Johan as the third signing. For fun, essentially. And respect for what he did.
  18. Tanaka and Garza are not going to be signed by the Twins Linecum won't come to Minnesota Burnett isn't leaving Pittsburgh Plenty of remaining options are either old (Kuroda, Arroyo) or bad (Pelfrey) or injury-prone (Johnson). Ervin Santana and Phil Hughes should be on the table.
  19. I am not sure why reclamation projects are good. Players might want one-year deals to be successful and get the hell away from the Twins. The Twins *will not* win Tanaka. They *will not* sign Garza. I would be willing to go 3/$48 for Ervin and 2/$16 for Hughes. I am not touching Josh Johnson or oldster pitchers. That kills a lot of the list.
  20. Not saying Gardenhire is gone, but wouldn't it appear as though Terry Steinbach is next in line? Down the road it may be Dougie or Jake.
  21. By the way, I will be happy as a clam if the Twins, by opening day, have traded Willingham and Doumit (with likely some other minor leaguers) for some kind of pitching. That's all I really want outside of at least one solid FA SP signing in the offseason. Games: Mauer 70, Pinto 70, Herrmann 22 at catcher Mauer 60, Parmelee 60, Colabello 42 at first (Plouffe could alter this) Dozier 90, Rosario 72 at second Florimon 100, Dozier 62 at short Sano 100, Plouffe 62 at third and then figure out the OF with Hicks, Parmelee, Mastroianni, Herrmann, Rosario (a bit), and eventually Buxton
  22. Arcia is not going to be a first baseman. Really, Sano being able to play third is a HUGE possibility. It opens up the DH spot and eventually Arcia can become a RF/DH half/half when the Twins are good again. I am hoping for JD Williams to continue to be successful as a Williams-Buxton-Hicks defensive OF would be ridiculous.
  23. Looks good, Jeremy. I suggest you keep it as manageable as possible for yourself!
  24. "A little attitude"--what does this even mean? Most of Hicks' struggles were easily predictable (and I don't think he needs a breather, by the way, but should be playing instead of Alex Presley).
  25. John's point is worth noting even if limiting it to the Twins, but I worry about the Twins keeping oldsters like Willingham and Doumit around well into next year instead of turning the roster over (OR the whole year??). Same for this OF filler in Presley and Thomas. Arcia, Pinto, Herrmann, and Parmelee are four guys I would absolutely rather have on the roster than those first four. I think WE are starting to see who can be the pieces around the Buxton-Mauer-Sano trio. I just hope the Twins see it and act on it.
