  1. After many years of having the recurring problem of having a lack of starting rotation stability, bad bullpens, a lack of offseason successes, with Santana being pretty much the only consistent victory, the answer here was clear. Pitching, pitching, pitching. First selection: non-pitcher Second selection: non-pitcher Third selection: yay
  2. This is the right move. Round 2. Here we go. Show em what you got kid.
  3. Buxton, Mauer, or Rosario were not expected to be leaders by a significant portion of Twins fans. Sano is right about where you would hope he would be, hitting home runs and driving a lot of people in. Dozier is doing his standard half season underperforming routine.
  4. Welp, this should expedite the breaking up/trading/demoting process of said starting rotation sooner than was hoped. Thank you Molitor.
  5. Newsflash: The government (NSA) already has surveillance on all 320 million American people, not just Trump. This isn't a new revelation nor is Trump special with regard to being targeted.
  6. "Mauer sounded surprised by the suggestion" Is he that insulated by coaches and the front office that he really had no clue or is he just a basically unaware individual? Most Twins fans and baseball fans in general have noticed a decline in recent years, which in many cases, may lead to a platooning situation or demotion in the ranks. This isn't an earth shattering discovery. Anyone have a good answer?
  7. Best Thread.
  8. No one thought Dozier would ever hit more than 20 home runs in a season just a few years ago. After Dozier hit 18 home runs, no one thought he would hit more and forget doing it at least 3 more times in consecutive seasons. After doing that, no one thought Dozier would surpass 30 home runs, and forget 40, that would literally be impossible. Now it will be said that it's not possible for him to ever hit 40 again. Alright. I hope people continue to believe this guy will accomplish very little, so he can seemingly use this as fuel and accomplish everything he apparently is not capable of doing.
  9. They are playing the long game and committing to the current core. The disappointment comes from the expectation that they were going to go crazy with trades and load this team with fresh prospects. They did not. We already have a very young core. The indication we see from the lack of movement by the front office means they are going to see what they got with the current squad. They didn't feel they needed to rebuild that core, not this year. Every young core does not start out playing MVP caliber ball. It takes a few years. It has now been a few years, let's see what happens. If the core plays up to internal projections, which I assume is projecting to be a net gain over last season, then they will win a lot more games. If they don't, then their gamble failed and going heavily into the trading business, will commence.
  10. To all those that recognize we were wise not to trade Dozier 1:1 for DeLeon, many props. Dozier is more valuable than one pitching prospect no matter what anyone says or what other team makes a yawn worthy trade. Dozier can still be traded mid season or next offseason. We need pitching, but not at the cost of our best player for one measly prospect. We will get pitching, it will happen, please be patient. If Dozier starts out hot, we can Frank Viola him midseason, if not, then that's baseball.
  11. For the people that feel afraid, don't know what to do, how to handle this or how to cope, you need to remember one thing. The media created Trump and turned him into Mr. sexist, mysgonist, racist, molester, rapist, user of nuclear weapons, and all around deplorable. if you want to be angry with Trump or the people that voted for him, cool, but you should be most furious with the media. The same media told you he was a joke, was never going to win the GOP nomination, was going to lose every single state and general election poll, was hated by most of America, and had far too many things going against him for any sane person to ever take him seriously. And.. they were obviously flat out wrong. Please remember what the media did, not just in regards to Trump, but what they did to your expectations and how they toyed with your emotions and tricked most of the nation using propaganda, into thinking Trump could never possibly be a threat. He was a threat, and now everyone is coping with that rush back to reality.
  12. I can feel the grain of TD land as I type each letter but screw it, here we go: One thing to consider that I haven't seen many people mention is that there is no guarantee Polanco maintains his rookie season offensive stats and/or his fielding continues to be a sore spot in his game. I'm sure I sound like Mr. Obvious with that statement, but if you haven't noticed the certainty when discussing this, that there is no doubt Polanco will pull through for us next year and in the future, then maybe some of this should be pointed out. We have seen both Danny Santana and Danny Valencia in recent years take a plunge in their 2nd season. You could make an argument for Sano as well. A big reason for trading Dozier since the most recent trade discussions began is "well, we have Polanco to be an adequate replacement for Dozier at 2B." That's a pretty large assumption and it is one of the most common arguments for both trading Dozier and for placing Polanco at 2B. If we do trade Dozier and Polanco does fill in his spot and he thrives at the position, awesome, everything worked out the way we were hoping. I'm sure that's a risk most here are willing to take and I wouldn't blame anyone for taking it, but we have to remember it is a risk and not a guarantee.
  13. Dozier was an all-star last year. It was no surprise he hit a lot of HRs again, but hitting 40+ was clearly a surprise. He has had 3 decent seasons with good offensive stats coming into 2016. Our best player by far for the year was obviously Dozier, but most improved? I would give that to Nunez. Even though he left midway through the season, he was a terror against other teams for the first few months of the season. He had a high ba and would often steal 1-2 bases once he got on with an incredible 27 stolen bases in just 91 games (he lead the team this year in that stat 9 more than the runner up). He was never more than a gap filler in the lineup and an offensive+ utility infielder until this season where he locked down a starting job for the first time with the Twins. He clearly made the most of it.
  14. Bonds could of course teach our hitters a thing or two about hitting. The real problem I see is Bonds can't help but make everything about him, which is the last thing we need right now. As a coach you need to put the team and your players first, and I see a conflict quickly developing in this regard due to his personality. Yes he could possibly teach the young crew something Brunansky has not yet taught, but is it worth the cost?
  15. Never forget.. the trees. Also Willingham devirginized the left field home run porch area and taught Dozier his methods. Dozier took full advantage and the rest is history.
  16. "It's not Gardy's fault" - nearly everyone circa 2011 "It's not Molitor's fault" - nearly everyone circa 2016 (although this now seems to be slowly changing) At what point can we say that the manager clearly has some role in how poor a team is doing and we need to move on?
  17. Live footage from the 1st game of last nights doubleheader:
  18. It's good news that McLeod is considered "well positioned" after his interview. At a minimum I hope we get him as either PBO or GM. You never know how any of these people are going to work out and if their previous success will translate into future success with a different franchise in a different town. With that said, it's no revelation to state that he has a very impressive history and the strongest connections to successful front offices of anyone in the list. For whatever it is worth.. I would hope he could bring some of the previous magic he conjured with Epstein to a very desperate franchise in need of magic in order to be resurrected from the MLB grave.
  19. It's fun that we are even having these thoughts or discussions about the possibility of a Dozier MVP year. I don't think it's going to happen, but I'm hoping he can continue to pile on as many numbers as possible. This is certainly one of the best team MVP seasons in quite some time. In many ways this is better than the 09 Mauer or 06 Morneau MVP years and could even rival some of the fantastic Killebrew seasons of 67 and 69.
  20. Good news Twins fans, according to La Velle E. Neal, Rob Antony has been interviewed by the Twins for the job. Any tension, concern, or extreme anxiety over whether or not we would get around to interviewing this man can now officially be alleviated.
  21. Dave St. Peter is now indicating the search is wrapping up. The Cubs just clinched the NL Central and McLeod can now be officially interviewed by the Twins. I don't know the details on hiring restrictions, so if someone can correct me that would be great, but I'm running on the assumption that people that are apart of franchises that are still actively playing in the playoffs cannot be hired mid-playoff run. Which would mean the better the Cubs do, the less likelihood we have of hiring McLeod as pressure may be mounting to hire the other available options.
  22. Every time Buxton has come up from AAA, he has gotten off to a hot start and then cooled down after around a week. It seems this may be the case again, although he had a nice game today. I don't think we can conclude anything either way yet.
