About that Miguel Sano "parody" article....
laloesch replied to BrokenCompass's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
With all due respect I think your take on his time with the Twins is a bit of revisionist history and not reality. I don’t recall fans making fun of him on this forum either, mostly just blunt criticisms of obvious problems of his own doing. Aside from two seasons with the team his play with the Twins was downright awful and he was a terrible hitter. He was NOT a star, PERIOD. Several blogs including Puckets pond and mlbtraderumors had articles documenting how much difficulty the coaches had trying to get him to control his weight and take it seriously. This was after he ballooned up to 298 pounds, was striking out 40% of his at-bats, and sporting a sub .200 average. They basically concluded he was close to un-coachable, and didn’t take it seriously enough which is why he’s out of mlb now. It’s truly his fault that he squandered all that talent, oh well. Over the course of his 3 year post arbitration contract he made 30+ million dollars, which is not chump change and A LOT more than 99% of Americans or Dominicans (for that matter) can dream of in 5 lifetimes. People didn’t hate on Sano they were just very disappointed and frustrated he squandered all that talent (and I don’t blame them), big difference,…..and once again he WAS NOT a star player. -
Woods Richardson optioned to St Paul
laloesch replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
To be perfectly fair though, Rocco pulled him early in his first two starts in my opinion. He could have thrown an additional 20 pitches in each of those starts, but Rocco pulled the plug on both for whatever reason. The last start against the White Sox he was laboring so that one made sense yanking him early. I'm not sure he's a rotation answer long term either, but I think he has better stuff than SWR. -

I agree with one of the other posters. Last season he was an unknown in the first half until his opponents saw him pitch a few times, got tape of him, and then the scouting reports started rolling out. This season he's not an unknown and now his weaknesses are in those scouting reports, and opponents are making him pay. To be 100% honest his changeup is garbage and he throws that fastball far too often and right down the middle much of the time. The Twins sent him down to try and figure things out, which is the right move IMO. All that said, I don't understand why some of the high-profile commenters here are saying "give him a longer leash to work things out, he deserves it." Really? Do you want them to win games or not? Let him work out the kinks in AAA. He's had a bunch of very short starts this season and labored through most of them, not throwing his best stuff. The Twins NEED to keep winning to have any chance at the playoffs this year after the huge hole they dug themselves to start the season. Makes zero sense to keep him in the rotation when Festa and Matthews having arguably better stuff and appear ready. The same goes for the guys in the batting order. -
Falvey's Drafting & Development Results

I really liked what I saw from Keaschall before he got hurt. When he gets back he should rejoin the roster at the very least as DH. In the meantime I'd like to see the Twins call up McCusker and see what he brings to the table (primarily as DH). If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I'm all for letting Lee fill in at short until Correa picks it up. His bat is still a liability and he needs time to figure it out instead of hitting into double plays all the time. Until then Lee can split starts with him until he gets that swing and approach ironed out. -
You would think so. If he doesn't work out then go back to Keirsey or Bride and or try someone else until Luke Keaschall is back.

McCusker should be callup candidate any minute. At the very least he can DH with his bat.

Turning the Tide: Twins Showing Signs of Life
laloesch commented on Chris Hove's blog entry in Chris's Twins Blog
Yes. I would still like to see them move Paddack at some point for a bat, if possible. -
I’m pleasantly surprised as well unfortunately every team ahead of the Twins in the central has gone on a win streak of approximately the same length and so the Twins have made no progress in the standings.

Not only that, Festa is still a bit of an unknown and he is kinda the agreed upon replacement (for the moment) when Paddack exits the organization either at the trade deadline or this coming offseason. From what we've seen of him (Festa) he does pretty good the first two times through opponent's batting orders only to encounter troubles the third time through, which is trouble for a starter long term. SWR has likewise struggled this season in much the same way.

This. Long term it's starting to look like that SWR is more of a reliver / long reliever than a starter. If the Twins deal him now along with Paddack the return might be worth it.

I would flip Paddack and possibly SWR who is looking more and more like a long reliever vs. a starter. Maybe even bundle them together to the Orioles and get something back.

while I'm not inclined to give up yet on SWR I'm beginning to think he needs to move to the BP and assume the long man role. So far this season he doesn't seem to be able to go deep into games, but how much of that is Rocco just pulling guys early because he fancy's it, I don't know.

The Minnesota Twins are the Cleveland Guardians Lite

For Lopez? I don't think so. -
The Minnesota Twins are the Cleveland Guardians Lite

Seems like Joe Pohlad is being a huge hypocrite then signing Correa to a 30 million a year contract and Buxton to a 16 million a year deal and whatever Lopez is getting. All three should be traded (if possible as soon as possible, might take some negotiation to get them to waive their no trade clauses), to bring more talent to the team. -
That’s a bad sign and I can’t imagine the Poland’s haven’t noticed. I think this season they’ve officially checked out. They need to revise their sale price to a realistic number and just unload this thing. It looks like they’ve committed the classic mistake of overpricing their house and now no buyers. Worse yet with significantly declining attendance numbers and bad media deals they are now in a death spiral. This will force them to start selling off assets. Expect a fire sale soon.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but I wouldn’t exactly call this bullpen solid. They’ve definitely got some very weak links. Can they be fixed? Possibly. But truth is they do have to be perfect with this anemic offense and Rocco is not making it easy on them pulling starters early. The more I see of SWR this year the more I think he needs to transition to the pen for a while.

I wouldn’t. The Twins have two highly paid players that have a consistent pattern of prolonged offensive droughts, sometimes 2 months in length ( this is not the first time either one has done this with the Twins), and one is getting paid 30+ million a year. That’s not sustainable for a middle market franchise like the Twins. In fact, it’s a handicap. While Buxton has been decent lately he too had a very slow start to the season and throughout his career with the Twins has also had massive prolonged droughts and has failed to stay healthy for much of it. If I’m front office I’m trying to trade both as soon as possible. At some point this team needs to move on. You can’t have a roster full of streaky offensive players and very few consistent hitters, especially when before mentioned streaky players consume 1/3 of the payroll. It just isn’t going to work. I would be working overtime to move Correa out as soon as possible and that’s not going to be easy considering how poorly he’s played. If Buxton can hold things together for a few more weeks and is willing to wave his no trade clause to a select few teams for a chance at a World Series you bet your bottom dollar I’m moving him to clear cap space and bring back some prospects. Correa I think, (and this is pure speculation) has checked out. He knows he got duped by the owners with fancy talk about building a World Series caliber franchise around him. If the Twins could find a trade partner to take him I would do it. While you can’t exclusively blame Correa he IS a big part of the problem. At this point moving him is gonna involve the Twins paying a good chunk of his remaining salary but I don’t see any other way barring a big turnaround from him later in the season and should that happen I’m scrambling to move him while the fire is hot.

And DFA the players under performing or send them down to AAA. The manager is a big part of the problem but so are the players.

When some fans say Rocco over complicates things with his roster decisions (particularly the pen), that is what I thought of when reading this quoted post. Over complicated, too analytical, and far too long. The more you over complicate the plumbing the easier it is to clog up the drain.

And yet he controlled himself and only needed 76 pitches through 5 innings. He could have gone another inning easily and been fine, END OF STORY no excuses

Yep. I've said this in other threads but Rocco just can't control the urge to pull starters much too early. I don't know if he has preset innings limits on Paddack, or once he has guys warming up he won't deviate from the plan regardless of how the starter is doing, but man if the last three starts aren't enough to start ramping up Paddack's innings I don't know what is. With Richardson the other night it was understandable why he pulled him early. He was clearly laboring through 4-2/3 innings and had thrown nearly 100 pitches, and walked 5 batters. Paddack in contrast was cruising along in his start and was only at 76 pitches in 5 innings. Why he didn't at least roll him out in the 6th just baffles me. And to be fair Paddack has been pretty darn good his last three games after a very rough start. Rocco should be building him up in innings, if anything to increase his trade value. He should be pushing 6 or 7 innings a start by now. I've also said this before in other threads. But Rocco needs to go. He's costing the team a significant number of wins by over thinking things and inept roster decisions.

And Brad Radke pitched on some horribly bad Twins teams in the mid to late 90's. If the Pohlads had invested in better players instead of tanking in preparation for contraction (I think they began thinking about it in 93/94), he would have been a 20-game winner several more times in his career other than 1997.
