He is. He played most of his games last season at SS, but Rocco also put him at 3rd for 13 games, and another 11 at 2nd. Hopefully they call up Keaschall soon and he can focus on SS and the occasional start at 3rd.

One would hope. Keaschall has spent most of his time at either 2nd or DH.

Rocco Baldelli and the Case of the Missing Lever
laloesch replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I could see that as well. Correa has got to be frustrated with not only his own play but his teammates play as well as being frustrated with ownership and the lack of moves by the organization. I would imagine he was sold a bill of goods that with his signing the Twins would be bringing in other talent to build around him and that clearly hasn't happened. Sure he's getting paid a TON of money, but that only goes so far when it comes to professional happiness especially as an athlete where the bar to reach is competing for championships like he did with the Astros. I also believe Buxton wants to remain a Twin his entire career, but I'm not sure that's good for the organization. Either way his NTC changes to a 5-team no trade clause in 2027. If he's still playing like this at the conclusion of the 2026 season, the Twins may very well move him out. I mean he's only played an average of 81 games the last 9 seasons.- 59 replies

Trevor Larnach is Avoiding Whiffs, At All Costs
laloesch replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd take both at some point this season. The OF hitters have been bad on offense, not nearly as bad as the infielders, but bad enough. This season is shaping up to be an extended tryout for future retooled lineups, the sooner they get started the better.- 24 replies

Fair enough, but still by 2028 he'll be 33? Good chance he's going downhill in that timeframe so the 575 PA will become more difficult given his injury history and age at that point. I still think it's a lot less than a 50/50 chance by 2028. I've had plantar fasciitis and it's no joke. It never completely goes away either especially if your arches have collapsed in the past and or the individual is flat footed. Plantar fasciitis typically goes hand in hand with back troubles which I also suffer from. I also used to be an avid runner and can't do it anymore at 45. It's also lead to arthritis in both of my feet that started to appear in my 30's. He may get lucky and be spared until his early 40's but the fact that he's had back and foot issues long before his age 30 season is not a good sign, it's all linked together (back, legs, feet).
-
2024? - 366 PA He needs 575 plate appearances in 2028, that's not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination given his injury history. And in his previous seven seasons with the Astros he only made 575 + plate appearances TWICE and five of those seasons he was well below 500 PA.

Mistakes galore on defense, and HORRID hitting. Bullpen has been bad for the most part and blown multiple games. Rocco's management of both the starters and pen have led to multiple loses. Rocco's management of the lineup has led to multiple loses. Rocco's inability to motivate the team has led to multiple loses. Pohlad's lack of investment in the lineup when they should have signed multiple free agents has led to this team being unwatchable and near historic bad thus far. Buxton and Correa have played downright awful baseball aside from Sunday's game against the Tigers. It's the perfect storm of multiple factors leading to awful baseball from this club. I've said it previously in other threads, but they need to get Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriquez, and Luke Keaschall up here as soon as possible and limit the play of Buxton and Correa until those two can turn it around. They also need to get Lewis healthy and back in the lineup. Lot of ifs. They should probably also consider moving Lopez for prospects, primarily hitters. They've got plenty of starting pitching prospects in the pipeline in Matthews, Morris, Festa, Raya, and Soto.
-
With such low attendance and terrible play if the Pohlads are going to do anything they'd better do it quick, ie firing Rocco and or selling. The value of their product is plummeting fast. Not good for the asking price.
-
I'm not sure how likely the team is to sell. The Pohlads were asking for a pie in the sky amount plus the 400+ million in debt. It doesn't seem likely at this point, but what do i know. Either way I think if they continue on like this till the deadline, there will be multiple assets traded, most likely Lopez to start along with whatever other moveable low hanging fruit they can dump. I don't see the organization moving Buxton or Correa unless both are willing to drop their no trade clauses and the front office picks up the phone and reaches out to the teams that reportedly expressed interest in both players in the preseason. I think for them to move either player it will have to include the Twins paying large portions of their remaining salaries and that seems EXTREMELY unlikely given the team is for sale and the Pohlads are historically cheapskates in such matters. The firing of Rocco is another matter. Will Falvey fire him at the deadline? Not sure, it also doesn't seem likely given past Twin's history. However, if the team is historically bad up until the deadline vs. improving a bit to just mediocre, it might happen. We will just have to wait and see. This thing is going south really fast. I don't see a turnaround happening with as badly as the offense has played, just don't see it.
-
That's the exit door I think as well. They are just gonna have to unload all of these guys, along with Lopez, Ryan, and Ober to rebuild. This team doesn't play well together, has no fire, can't rise to the occasion, and can't win. And it's clear as night and day they can't hit the broad side of a barn, PERIOD. Correa and Buxton are the keystones this franchise is built around and they are failing miserably, along with Rocco. Unfortunately, this is a well-defined pattern. I'm sorry to say this again, but both those contracts are gonna haunt this franchise financially for at least 4-5 years, unless they get new owners or work out some miracle trades to rid themselves of both players. All that said, the new good news is that there's no way Correa gets enough at-bats in 2028 to vest, he's simply not capable of it. I honestly think (aside from his defense) that Correa hurts the team more than he helps it (offensively speaking). Buxton likewise is a complete lost cause. He'll always play defense well, and occasionally has flashes of relevance on offense (like the game on Sunday against the Tigers), but then it's followed by 5 or 6 games of absolutely nothing. With Lewis being an almost permanent fixture on the injured list, there's no path forward, but to shed players via trades and just rebuild. Just my opinion.
-
It's probably for the better, they need the talent. As much as a I hate to see him go he is a big trade chip. You can't win with your top 2-star players going 0-8. The top 3 guys in the order (Julien, Buxton and Castro) went 0-12. Wallner had two hits, but he was followed by Correa who went 0-4 and leads the league in GIDP. Not an inspiring group to watch. Buxton is hitting .179, Correa .153, Vazquez .115, Gasper .118. Absolutely brutal group to watch. If they continue like this, this team will be completely out of it for the season by mid-May.

Jack Morris ditching the Twins immediately after signing with them and winning the World Series in 91 still stings to this day. Arguably if he had stuck with the Twins for one more season 92 and they still could have grabbed Smiley as well and signed both to extensions they could have won in 92 and possibly 93 instead of the BlueJays. Scott Erickson was a bit of a flash in the pan.

Twins 5, Tigers 1: Rome Wasn't Built in a Day
laloesch replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If SWR stays healthy I hope he reaches 150 innings. I think it's unlikely Festa gets to 135 innings without Paddack going down to the minors or missing significant time with injury.- 39 replies

Exactly, I'll take it, but they've got quite the nasty hole to dig themselves out of and I'm not convinced they will, this could be a flash in the pan and then back to what we were seeing before.- 39 replies

Twins 5, Tigers 1: Rome Wasn't Built in a Day
laloesch replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Incorrect. Starters USED to be built up prior to the start of the regular season starting. It's only the past 12-15 years that has changed and it's stretched into the beginning of the regular season.- 39 replies

Tigers 7, Twins 6: It's Always Something
laloesch replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ohhh he will certainly figure out a way to reach that 575 at-bats threshold in 2028 to kick in that 2029 vesting option instead of allowing it to become a club option and potentially a free agent. However, we might be surprised and if the team is as bad as they look right now, in a year or two, don’t be surprised if he demands a trade or drops his full no trade clause. 2029 Buxton and Correa….shudders horrible contracts.- 68 replies

Tigers 7, Twins 6: It's Always Something
laloesch replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly. I have tried to stay away from the fire manager conversations in the past but Rocco’s boneheaded decisions are costing the team dearly and often, it can’t be ignored anymore. Gonna be a lonnnnng season at this rate but hey it might lead to a chance at a good draft pick. Remember the Twins were fielding interest last offseason for Lopez and even Correa and hopefully will so again before the deadline. They definitely could use it in the infield and outfield. This team has not fire whatsoever and it’s just brutal to watch.- 68 replies

Another blown game on Rocco’s shoulders. Is this team intentionally tanking? At this point I’d rather have Molitor, Gardenhire, or TK as manager. Baldelli is just brutal- 68 replies

I think we are watching a 90+ loss team
laloesch replied to High heat's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Well with the way Baldelli is over using the bullpen and pulling the starters early it’s pretty much a certainty. He’s lost two games already yanking starters on low pitch counts for no reason. -
You don't think Ober could have started the seventh? Genuine question. He was going strong and only at 73 pitches at the end of the sixth, which is well within acceptable limits and wasn't laboring. He could easily have gone 6-2/3 if not 7 if you ask me. This multiple times through the order stuff the author of the column outlined is overhyped. Stick with the hot hand. I agree though these pitchers are getting babied wayyyy to much.
