    Trading Gray is not a ridiculous take. It's just a baseball discussion. Teams make trades all the time. And you are correct they get a QO top 40 pick, but with his value you could get TWO top 40 picks for him hmmm....food for thought. With drafts being a total crap shoot at times i'd rather have two chances at a decent return rather than one, just saying. And besides it doesn't matter what i think because i'm not in charge. Trading Gray would hurt in the short term, but when you are as bad as they are on offense, where do you go from here? AND he's already said he plans to test free agency at season's end per the Star Tribune yesterday. I say trade him for several prospects at his peak value, while they still can. This team is not likely going anywhere regardless of how well he pitches as we've already witnessed in the first half.

    Sure they could go that route but if they want to maximize trade value they would trade him before the deadline.

    As someone who has suffered plantar fasciitis it is extremely painful and can take YEARS to heal. I'm 6'-5" and a runner. I developed fascitis a few years ago and it took me almost 2 years to get rid of it.

    It doesn't matter how good the pitching is if the offense is that bad, which it is. Sonny Gray is gone at seasons end. You can't let a talent like that walk away for nothing that's just foolish. If the Twins were going to extend him it would have happened by now.

    The offense is SO BAD, maybe the team needs to rethink this. You can't be all pitching and no offense and vice versa. There has to be balance. The problem is they've burned through a lot of very good prospects in some bad trades such as the Mahle deal and now don't have a lot of prospects to potentially trade. Maybe the team needs to make a tough decision and flip one or two of the starters that have value such as P. Lopez, Sonny, Ryan, Varland or Ober for a slew of prospects. I know fans don't want to hear that and it will make the team A LOT worse in the short term, but this offense looks to be THAT BAD. Correa and Buxton both look like complete busts and we are stuck with both of them on multi-year deals, especially the Correa 6 year deal. Perhaps it's time to blow everything up and start over if this continues into the second half.

    Agreed. I think Joe hopes this is a dry spell that will pass after reading Jim Souhan's piece. I didn't see any sign from him that changes might be coming, just some vague story about learning to drive a manual transmission car and the stops and stalls of learning it comparing it to the Twin's season (rolls eyes). The offense is brutally bad, far worse than even the bullpen deficiencies. Correa and Buxton have been awful. Both of those guys should be ashamed of their production halfway through and with Kepler, Gallo, it's even worse. Michael Taylor has no history of offensive production so you really can't expect more from him other than defense, but the rest have been putrid. Almost no-one in the lineup is showing any sign of life besides Kirilloff, Julien, Solano, and Lewis (who's currently hurt). It's not a good situation. I think the Twins need to trade a major chip to bring in a hitter or two. Start with Sonny who's going to be gone after this season anyways and go from there. I also think that at some point you HAVE to start looking at Baldelli and what he's doing in the clubhouse. This team might need a kick in the rear end more than anything else. With as good as the starting pitching has been this year it's a bloody shame they are squandering it all with such a bad offense.

    SWR has been HORRIBLE in St. Paul in 2023. I do not understand the fascination with him. His minor league numbers as a whole have been very mediocre. I'd rather see Varland chock up the experience. We also know what we have in Dobnak too which is more mediocrity. Dallas needs to be stretched out more in my opinion before being called up (if that's the FO's plan). He's only made 3 starts so far and gone no more than 4 innings in only one of them.

    That is nice to see Lopez step up and provide advice to Soto. The Arraez trade stings badly, but this is also good as well. Mentorship figures are really important when bringing new talent.

    I think it's a pretty big leap of faith to throw Keuchel into the rotation let alone the bullpen after such a short time in St. Paul. His velocity is not conducive to being a lights out BP arm either at 89 mph. I'm not convinced.

    where to start? I think we all knew Gallo would be a low .200 hitter and that Kepler was heading towards being burnt toast, but Buxton AND Correa, yikes! That's the really hard part to swallow.

    I thought the Twins should have insisted on Lopez + Alcantara (even though he's having a down year) or Lopez + Luzardo and made it a bigger deal. OBVIOUSLY, they (Twins) would have added extra pieces to make it happen (assuming Miami was even open to such a possibility), but still. Arraez was more valuable than I think some of us realized and we are seeing it this season as clear as night and day and there's no doubt they miss his offensive spark. That said, Arraez alone would not have saved this team from it's offensive woes so far this season. The entire lineup has underperformed, BADLY. It's really disappointing. I'm not sure where they go from here either.

    I just don't get the fascination with SWR. The guy's minor league stats are not remarkable at all.

    No argument here. I think EVENTUALLY the Correa deal will pay off for the Twins, I THINK. But i disliked the Arraez trade. I think the Twins caved for too little in return for Pablo Lopez + two low minor leaguers neither of which has done much yet since joining the Twins. They should have insisted on a bigger deal for both Lopez and Alcantara (although he is having a DOWN year so far), otherwise i think you keep Arraez.

    That's really the key. Correa, Buxton, Larnach, Vazquez, and Miranda have ALL been just brutally AWFUL offensively. It's actually kinda a miracle that this team is .500 given how bad the offense has been. Lewis has been a bright spot recently, but there isn't a whole lot else to cheer for on offense besides Farmer who's had a good season to date. The before mentioned guys need to really step up big time especially Correa, Buxton and Vazquez. Those three are seasoned veterans, no more excuses.

    There gonna need him now with Correa likely out for a while with Plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Ughhh.

    Lopez will come around, he's just hit a bit of a rough spot. I'm not TOO worried about the starters. With Ryan, Gray, and Lopez leading the rotation they have 3 quality + starters and viable options in Ober and Varland in case Kenta and Mahle are sidelined longer. The offense does need to pick it up a bit though for this to continue. I'm cautiously optimistic.

    Yeah my thoughts exactly. Extend this guy if he keeps this up. For as good as Ryan has been Gray has been REALLY good so far.

    I like Gray's approach at the plate. I get it he's 34, but i'd like to see them extend him a couple more seasons if the keeps this up.

    lol, it's not the Twin's fault. Why is it always the team's fault and not the player's fault? or both? I mean the player is the one swinging the bat and playing defense in the field. Ultimately, it's their decision making when game time rolls. Sano is the perfect example of this. He was un-coachable, so in reality it WASN'T the Twins fault in that situation at least not entirely.

    Nashville for sure. I'm not sure about Portland though, they have big crime issues downtown to contend with so that might factor into the decision. Salt Lake City might also be more viable than some would think due to it's location. It would be a possible addition to the NL whereas Nashville would likely be an AL add. I've also heard San Antonio, Charlotte, and Oklahoma City as possible locations.

    Montreal is not a good destination for baseball in my opinion. They had two years of 2 million + attendance over their 35 years of play in that city (from 1969 - 2004), and that's atrocious. Montreal is quite a bit different culturally than greater Canada. I doubt they would support a team given that hockey is king in Canada. The BlueJays have done reasonably well attendance wise partly because its the biggest population center in Canada and the powerhouse of the Golden Horseshoe, but it's also the most culturally diverse city of Ontario and the eastern provinces. I still think Nashville gets a team and soon. They've had redevelopment plans for a downtown stadium for several years now and it has the backing of city council and the major. They've also lined up several potential developers and have brought Don Mattingly in to advocate for the massive project. My understanding is that they will name the team the "Nashville Stars" in honor of the famous Negro leagues team that resided there. On a different note from what i've read the negotiations with Tampa/St. Pete and the Rays has been mostly stalled for quite a while now. I know the commissioner prefers they stay put in that general vicinity, but they also said the same thing about Oakland before the move to Las Vegas too. We shall see.

    I like the Vegas Gamblers. Does this mean that MLB will have to reinstate Pete Rose? I mean for heaven's sake the commissioner is backing a team in the gambling mecca of the country.

    I would not be surprised in the least if the Tampa Bay Devil Rays end up moving to Nashville. They've been linked to them before and their stadium deal expires in 2027. tic toc, tic toc.
