People need to quit saying we need a new GM even though it may not be a bad idea. What they really need are scouts that can actually evaluate talent. You can expend it to hitters as well. What has this organization produced for hitters in the last 5-10 years? Dozier? Who else, I don't want to include the young guys up this year because you cannot judge a player after just one year.
If his health was his major concern he could just do himself a favor (and everyone else) and retire. No more feeling guilty about the money and be a father to your girls.
So how did Nolasco turn into the worst contract in MN? His biggest problem is that he cannot stay healthy. His contract is not hurting this team as bad as some other contract.
So what about a flip for Joe Mauer? Mauer signed through 2018 $23m per year. Reyes signed through 2017 $22M per year with 2018 team option for $22M with $4M buyout. Sounds good to me. Mauer is not showing any improvement in the field and his numbers are poor.
It is clear that the Twins feel they have no chance to win this year. To put it into perspective only losers wait for a deadline to make a deal. Teams that want to play in October make moves and don't wait. I have to give KC some credit for going for it but the Zobrist deal is going to look real bad in a couple of years. If they win a World Series they won't care. At least they are active and are giving their fans something to cheer about.
Looks like the Royals are going to keep adding pieces to try to make another run at the World Series. I guess that means Zobrist will most likely play 2B.
They can have Tulo. Just look at his games played in the last 5 years. He make Joe Mauer look like Cal Ripken. Reyes is another player I would not want either. Basically once the legs go so does his stats.
Sad part about Suzuki owed $6M next season with a 2017 $6M vesting option guaranteed with 485 plate appearances in 2016. I bet people want to blame Bill Smith somehow....LOL not gm who did the deal
Dozier bat second when Buxton makes it back. Mauer dropped to 7 or 8 until he can hit better for a long period of time. I correct myself my top of the line up would be 1. Buxton 2. Rosario 3. Dozier 4. Sano 5. wild card here Oswaldo Arcia in a perfect world. Ploufee 6. Hunter/Hicks 7. Mauer 8. a different catcher than what is on the roster now 9. a different SS than what is on the roster now
so if they found something wrong in the physical you would think he might be inclined to sign at a discount to his expected bonus. I won't feel bad if they come away with another pick next year.
That would make the Twins a better team. Slide Plouffe to first, Sano to third and we have a nice DH in A-Rod. Maybe out of NY A-Rod plays even better without all the pressure. Oh, we can dream can't we?
