  1. I thought the maximum offer any team can make is like $3.5M. I would also feel any team he signs with will be having an arrangement set up where he basically gets a long term extension after 2 seasons. I am sure that is most likely against the rules but look at what some teams have done before.
  2. I had more of an idea of offering Santana a 2 year extension for $25M.
  3. It's nice to see the package deal for Japanese pitchers.
  4. Thought they said Royce Lewis is going to converted into an outfielder since I thought the glove was not MLB quality.
  5. So a player with the speed of Byron Buxton should never think about laying down a bunt? With a little work with his speed and ability to steal a base it's wonderful. I am not saying he should bunt every game but it's a way to open open holes in the defense as well.
  6. I wish people would actually learn how to bunt properly. So many times when you get into the playoffs and you need to advance a runner teams can't lay down a simple bunt. Has anyone ever seen how Rod Carew could handle a bat. A great lost art that sadly is being neglected.
  7. Just driving home today had MLB radio on and on Inside Pitch and they talked quite a bit about how Yu Darvish & Shohei Otani are really good friends and also sound like they want to play together. It would a nice pair of pitchers to bring into 2018.
  8. The Twins should have used their international money and bought a couple of prospects that needed to be protected. With the Yankees out trading for money it would have made sense to try to swing some sort of deal. I would have to say there is a 1% chance that Ohtani would chose the Twins when the Yankees, Rangers, & Dodgers can't wait to make him a deal.
  9. Am I wrong that players cannot be on the 60 day DL now they need to be added to 40 man roster? It's a little early and my brain has not quite started up yet. Pretty sure they need to be added and cannot be put on 60 day DL until first day of season.
  10. This is a no brainer. Trade the international money that we can to the highest bidder. Shohei Otani will not come to MN. Trade the money to the Yankees for some MLB ready prospects. I am not going to try to place names but I do recall that the Yankees will be in a tough spot with so much you talent they need to protect for Rule 5 draft.
  11. If you go free agent route it's Holland or Davis. Both will command over $19M for at least 4 years. That is why you would go this route. The opt out does not make him a free agent, just gets him more moeny via arbitration.
  12. As nice as it would be to get a closer who is under team control for a few years the Twins need to address the starting rotation first in my opinion. I honestly feel the Twins are being used by the Reds to drive up the price. Just think about it, the Twins were a wild card team and a closer might push them closer to being a division leader. The Reds want to be linked to a possible contending team to drive up the price.
  13. Lance Lynn & Alex Cobb are basically #4 starters on a good team. So I would not waste money on either who will get overpaid this winter. As for the bullpen I would love some nice solid veteran arms that can throw hard. Perfect example would be Brandon Morrow. But, I would not want to sign the relief pitcher that had an amazing 2017 season. You will be overpaying big time. The Twins have to do their homework and sift through the free agents and find their targets.
  14. I gotta admit I am so happy that the Twins are cutting players that do not have any future here. No reason to waste roster spots. The new regime is looking better every day. Now just add a few veterans to this nice mix of talent & the Twins will be back in the playoffs in 2018!
  15. The Twins do finally get out of the Mauer contract after this season so they will have money to spend. Depending on how much it would take for a 4-5 year deal.
  16. Bunting is fine in the right situation with a hitter that knows how to bunt. Look how scary Buxton can be with his speed.
  17. Nope the deadline today is 11 pm central time so there is still time on the clock.
  18. Any chances the Twins add someone before the deadline? Would like to see some bullpen help. The Twins do have probably the easiest schedule with just a Yankee & Indian series left and rest of month against teams under .500 The Angels are making their push for a wild card. So do the Twins just let it ride & hope the Yankees continue to fall for the last spot?
  19. No need to put any players on the DL this time of year unless they are being placed on 60 day DL to free up a 40 man spot.
  20. This is long over due. They should have dealt him last off season. He doesn't seem to have that fire in him that makes a player a winner.
  21. Just saw Stuart Turner's name come up on Rotoworld. He was just placed on the paternity leave list. So he will be safe to stay on the Red's roster all year. He has only played in 15 games this season. I figured there would be no way the Red's woud carry 3 catchers all season. But for a team clearly in rebuild mode with just 55 wins they could keep him.
  22. Having a guy like Matt Belise as closer when he belongs more in the 7th inning role is the main reason why the bullpen is suffering.
  23. No thanks. The Twins should not even be thinking about Verlander. 2 years left for $56M. He has been hot lately and would most likely demand additional years added on to the contract to waive his no trade clause. He most likely has 1 more solid year left but after that it's all down hill. Way too miles on his arm for any team to give him additional years. It would be worth it for Houston for just the 2 years if he gets him to the World Series. For Minnesota to get him they would also need a way better closer to try to make the push. Besides the Twins are chasing a Wild Card and not a division leader.
