  1. Comparing a pitcher to a hitter are not the same. A pitcher needs to get his work in to get in his work. They also should have had an option for like $15M for 2019.
  2. Hope this doesn't turn out like when the Twins signed Kendrys Morales. The biggest questions will be what has he been doing since pitchers & catchers reported? Is he behind & will he be ready for opening day without much of any Spring Training?
  3. I'm pretty sure it's the 75th pick in the draft. Twins got a competitive balance round B pick. The Tinws would give up their 3rd highest pick.
  4. Anyone else notice Neil Walker can't find a team? Just saying demand is not that great for 2nd base. I know Walker is not equal to Dozier but just proves they could find a cheap alternative some where next year if Dozier demands the world in a contract.
  5. Only reason Hughes would be kept as for insurance purposes. If they can get most of the money back they will continue to hold onto him if he doesn't stay healthy. If he just flat out stinks & they can pull an injury out of the sky to DL for the rest of the season they would be best served dumping him then.
  6. I have no problem with the lowball offer. The agents overplayed their hands & most likely passed on good deals back in December. I love it that is called collusion when teams finally figure out it's not smart to spend like drunken sailors on leave. This is gonna be really ugly when the collective bargaining agreement is up. With all the teams tanking t rebuild.
  7. Just another reason when you can move a prospect for an established player to not be afraid to make the deal.
  8. I would be a little afraid signing any of the 3 top pitchers. Nobody has any clue what they have done since pitchers & catchers reported. They may be behind and not ready to start or worse yet be likely to over due it and cause an injury. Just remember how good it worked out when the Twins signed Kendrys Morales. No spring training and never found his old form.
  9. Just remember what happened when the Twins signed Mauer to an extension before he was eligible to become a free agent. If he has a good year, offer him the QO first & then talk about a possible 3-4 year contract. Or fall back on your in-house options that may make sense in the long term.
  10. Unless they make some major changes to the qualifying offer I could see Dozier in the same boat as all these top SP without jobs now. Dozier will be 31 this May. So I can't see him getting more than a 4 year offer at tops. Same part it depends how his season plays out. He may try too hard to repeat his last 2 years in stats & hurt his value in the long run. Tagging Dozier with a QO would be a mistake if he doesn't repeat with another good year. The Twins have options so I would just let him walk away.
  11. Then once he realizes how messed up the market is here he will be open to playing overseas to make some cash. Also, it is the best way to build some value since I can't see him getting regular AB's on any team.
  12. I'm sure many teams would be in for the right price...
  13. Vargas to Korea or Japan. The Twins will sit him down and ask him if he would be open to going overseas to get some actual playing time. This way he could make a return to MLB with some confidence since he could get normal AB's in either Korea or Japan. Not sure which season would start sooner to be a quicker/better fit for him.
  14. I don't feel the FO thinks much of Vargas. He was treated like a yo yo last year between the majors & AAA. Would like to see a real DH for once but they need a right handed bat more than another lefty.
  15. Of course the player wants to remain on a 40 man roster. GM's like to see if they can slip one though at times. I just hope this is not one of those things that they are quickly dropping guys they didn't draft.
  16. Pretty sure it would cost the Twins their 3rd highest pick.
  17. Thanks, I was too lazy to look up his name. For a team that plans on contending for a playoff spot they should not be using a roster spot for a pitcher whose numbers were not worthy of being in the majors.
  18. Same part though there is nothing stopping a team from claiming him and trying to sneak him through right after that. Toronto was famous for doing that.
  19. I just hope this is not the FO trying to think they are so smart by figuring he will clear waivers. But this is also the same FO that gave Anibal Sanchez a MLB deal when he could have easily been picked up on a minor league deal with Spring Training invite. It should be Slegers, Sanchez or the Rule 5 pitcher they picked up being dumped before they do any other moves.
  20. Give me one of the following Logan Morrison, Mark Reynolds or Corey Dickerson. Or if you want to gamble sign Jose Bautista. I have always liked Vargas. It just seems like he has never got a fair chance to evolve into the great hitter he could become. His best bet might be going to Korea or Japan and make some big money while he can.
  21. To be clear I never wanted the Twins to sign Yu Darvish. But if they would have given him 6 year deal with an opt out after 2 or 3 years I would have been fine with that. But, with the Twins luck with long term deals Darvish would have turned into Phil Hughes and would be hurt & would never opt out putting the Twins on the hook for 6 long years.
  22. None of those pitchers are making any money. Their teams would not give up young dirt cheap pitchers unless you completely blew them away. No way for the overpay.
  23. I would rather sign a free agent than trade more prospects. Sign Melky Cabrea to a 1 year deal & hope either Granite or possibly Wade will be able to take over full time in 2019.
  24. Charlie Morton might be a better target. Thin he may only be signed for 1 more year.
